Start with low-risk checks
- Check for game and system updates. Open the game’s details on your Xbox to check its installed version, and install any available game or console updates. ATLUS says patches are applied automatically when the game launches. Its published patch notes include Xbox updates, but do not identify a general Xbox crash fix.
- Fully quit and relaunch the game. Use the Xbox guide or the game’s console menu to quit it rather than leaving it suspended, then launch it again.
- Restart the console. Use the console’s restart option. A restart is different from a full power cycle, which involves disconnecting the power cable.

Square Enix Support’s general Xbox crash guidance recommends this sequence; it is not a Metaphor-specific diagnosis:

- With the console on, hold its front power button for 10 seconds to turn it off.
- Unplug the power cable from the console and wait 10 seconds.
- Reconnect the cable, start the console, and launch the game.
Reinstall the game as a later step
If the simpler steps do not help, the same general guidance suggests uninstalling and reinstalling the game, checking for console updates, and ensuring the console has adequate ventilation. Menu names and installation steps can vary by setup. Reinstalling takes time and is not guaranteed to stop a crash.
What ATLUS’s patch notes do—and do not—say
ATLUS lists Xbox Series X|S among the game’s platforms, and the Xbox Store describes it as optimized for those consoles. The publisher’s reviewed update notes document specific fixes, but do not claim a broad Xbox crash fix:

- Version 1.03, October 16, 2024: fixed some rare progression-blocking bugs and changed network processing when entering names. ATLUS said, “The patch will be applied automatically when the game is launched.”
- Version 1.04, October 18, 2024: addressed camera-shake behavior, a New Game+ save-generation issue, and other minor issues; it did not state that Xbox crashes were fixed.
- Version 1.09, October 30, 2024: listed console fixes for a Catacombs quest and a progression block involving enemies with status ailments, plus other minor fixes. These were not described as general crash fixes.
- Version 1.112.0, announced January 14, 2025: the latest Xbox version found in the reviewed ATLUS pages. Its notes mention party-setup and item-menu changes plus other minor fixes, not a named Xbox crash fix. This does not establish whether a later version exists; check the version shown in your game details.
These notes describe the scope of the listed updates, not the cause of any individual crash. They do not establish whether a particular crash comes from the game, a save, the console, or another factor, and no reviewed official source gives a crash-frequency statistic.
Do not delete save data as a general crash fix
ATLUS published Xbox Series X|S instructions for a specific issue transferring save data from the prologue demo to the full game. That procedure deletes the full game’s save data from both the console and cloud storage. It is not an evidenced remedy for ordinary crashing. Do not use it unless your actual issue is the described demo-to-full-game transfer problem, and understand the save-loss consequence before following those instructions.

When to contact support
If the crashes continue after troubleshooting, note whether the game closes at startup or during a particular action, whether other games also crash, and any error message shown. Send those details through SEGA’s official support hub for Metaphor: ReFantazio. The hub is a contact route; the reviewed sources do not provide a specific crash article or diagnosis.
