There is no confirmed Switch 2 fix yet. SEGA says demo data can carry over and that the full game asks about importing it when first launched, but the Switch 2 edition has not been released as of October 13, 2026. ATLUS’s instructions for restoring a missing prompt cover other platforms, not Switch 2. Don’t delete Switch 2 save data using those instructions.
Can a Metaphor: ReFantazio demo save transfer to the Switch 2 game?
SEGA’s Metaphor: ReFantazio FAQ says demo save data can carry over to the main game. It describes an import question appearing when the main game is launched: “Once you launch the main game, you will be asked if you want to carry over the save file.”

That general guidance does not confirm Switch 2 compatibility. Nintendo lists the Switch 2 edition for November 12, 2026, a date still in the future as of October 13, 2026. The official sources reviewed do not establish whether a Switch 2 demo is available in your region, whether its data transfers to the Switch 2 edition, or how to restore a missing prompt on that system.
What to check safely on Switch 2
- Confirm the game versions and account context. Make sure the demo and full game are associated with the same Nintendo platform and account context. This is a sensible check, not a confirmed Switch 2-specific transfer requirement.
- Watch the full game’s first-launch screens. SEGA says the full game asks whether to carry over demo data. If an import option appears, follow the on-screen instructions.
- If you missed the prompt, stop before deleting saves. Do not apply ATLUS’s save-deletion instructions for another platform to Switch 2. Deleting full-game saves can remove existing progress, and no Switch 2 recovery procedure is established in the official guidance reviewed.
- Check for a Switch 2-specific support notice. Consult current ATLUS, SEGA, or Nintendo support for instructions that explicitly cover Switch 2. Guidance may change after the edition’s release.
Why might the import prompt disappear?
ATLUS’s October 13, 2024 support notice explains that on the platforms it covers, declining the first import prompt creates a system save for the full game. That can prevent the prompt from appearing on later launches. ATLUS says the prompt may appear again when selecting New Game, unless the demo data has already been imported.

This is a possible explanation only for the platforms listed in that notice: PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Windows, Steam, and Steam Deck. The notice does not list Nintendo Switch or Switch 2, so it does not establish that the same prompt behavior applies on Switch 2.
Why not use the published save-deletion fix?
For the platforms covered by its notice, ATLUS suggests deleting the full game’s system save and restarting the game if the import prompt is gone. The exact steps vary by platform, and ATLUS warns that console procedures can remove all full-game saves; its Windows instructions also warn about cloud synchronization. Those instructions are not a safe, confirmed Switch 2 fix.

Nintendo’s nearby-console save-data transfer guidance describes a different operation. It does not explain how to import a Metaphor: ReFantazio demo save or restore the game’s import prompt.
Does demo save transfer work between different platforms?
SEGA’s FAQ gives platform-specific limits, not a promise of universal transfer. It says Xbox and Microsoft Store on PC support cross-save, while PS4 and PS5 saves are not cross-compatible; a PS4 demo save cannot continue in the PS5 main game, or the reverse. Those examples do not confirm transfer to Switch 2 or between Switch 2 and another platform.

Switch 2 edition details
Nintendo’s Switch 2 listing gives a November 12, 2026 release date, an estimated 62.1 GB game file size, and Save Data Cloud support. The listing does not describe demo-save transfer or a way to recover a missing import prompt.
