Unlocking everything in F-Zero GX means working through Grand Prix cups, clearing specific Story Mode chapters at higher difficulties, and spending F-Zero Tickets in the F-ZERO Shop. Those steps unlock pilots, parts, cups and tracks; they do not create thousands of separate machines. The game’s custom parts can be combined into as many as 8,000 vehicle configurations, a figure Nintendo gives for builds that include additional parts from F-Zero AC.
What “every machine” means in F-Zero GX
There are two different completion goals: collecting the game’s fixed pilot-and-craft entries, and collecting parts to build custom machines. Nintendo describes GX as letting players customize a craft with parts earned through racing, and says the full 8,000 possible vehicle combinations require additional parts from F-Zero AC. That is a count of possible builds, not 8,000 individually unlockable machine records. Nintendo’s 2003 description explains the GX/AC connection.

Grand Prix unlocks cups and difficulty milestones
Race Grand Prix to earn cup-related rewards and advance through difficulty classes. Community unlock tables say Diamond Cup opens after placing first in Ruby, Emerald and Sapphire on Standard or Expert. They list Master Class after first place in Ruby, Diamond, Emerald and Sapphire on Expert. Another walkthrough summarizes the Master requirement as winning all four cups on Expert. Since these descriptions differ in how they frame the progression, use the game’s own menu to confirm what remains locked in your version.

Story Mode unlocks chapter-specific rewards
Story Mode rewards depend on both the chapter and the difficulty. Community guides associate some parts with clearing particular chapters on Hard, and associate AX pilots with Very Hard chapter clears. The guides also list rewards for completing the full story on a specified difficulty. Simply finishing Story Mode once is not a reliable route to every pilot or part.
The F-ZERO Shop turns tickets into rewards
The instruction booklet says the shop sells machine parts and items for F-ZERO Tickets earned in Grand Prix, Time Attack and Story modes. When a guide lists an item as shop content, unlocking its availability and buying it are separate steps. Check the shop after meeting a condition and keep earning tickets if the item is available but unaffordable. Nintendo’s game description and the instruction booklet support the customization and ticket-shop structure.

A practical checklist for completing the collection
- Work through Grand Prix. Win the cups required to open Diamond and the higher class milestones. Check the in-game menu as you go rather than assuming one guide’s wording matches every version.
- Clear Story Mode chapter by chapter. For parts and pilots, note the chapter and difficulty associated with each reward. Complete Hard and Very Hard requirements separately where the guide specifies them.
- Check the F-ZERO Shop after qualifying runs. Spend tickets earned in Grand Prix, Time Attack and Story modes on available parts or items.
- Recheck all reward categories. Look through the pilot roster, part inventory, cups and track selection; a newly available item may not be a purchased item, and a part is not itself a finished custom build.
Do you need F-Zero AX to unlock everything?
No arcade cabinet is established as a mandatory requirement for the standard GX unlock route. Community guides describe in-game challenge routes for AX-associated pilots, parts and tracks. They also describe a historical alternative: playing F-Zero AX at an arcade and using a GameCube memory card to transfer some content into GX. That alternative depends on access to a working cabinet and should not be treated as a practical requirement for most players.
Nintendo confirms that GX and the arcade game were connected, and that additional F-Zero AC parts contribute to the full set of possible custom configurations. The available publisher information does not provide an item-by-item transfer checklist.

How to interpret completion
- Want every fixed pilot and craft entry? Complete the relevant cup and Story Mode challenges, including the specified difficulty clears.
- Want every custom part? Combine cup and chapter rewards with shop purchases; confirm each guide-listed condition in your copy.
- Want every possible combination? That is different from collecting every fixed entry. Nintendo’s 8,000-combination figure includes additional F-Zero AC parts.
