Think in terms of skill functions—damage, buffs and debuffs—not fixed classes or a universally best lineup.
How to choose a party for an encounter
METRIA’s official advice is to consider both the enemy’s element and the effects of your party’s skills. As the official Anrica notice puts it: “Form your party while considering the element of your enemy and the skill effect of the characters in your party!” Use that as a decision process rather than a rigid team recipe.
- Check the enemy’s element. Consider how your party’s elements relate to the encounter before settling on its members.
- Read the skill effects. Look for skills that weaken enemies or improve allies, alongside each character’s damage contribution.
- Check how the choices work together. A party can combine damage with a buff or debuff, but the right mix depends on the encounter and the skills available.
The available official guidance does not provide a complete current element-advantage chart. An older Pocket Gamer beginner guide discusses elemental advantages in general terms, but it is not enough to establish the full matchup cycle. Check the live game’s element information rather than assuming a specific counter from an unsourced chart.
What character roles mean in METRIA
It is more useful to describe a character by what their skills do than to assign every character a fixed “tank,” “healer” or “mage” class. The official character notices provide concrete examples of two functions: reducing enemy stats and strengthening allies. They do not establish that characters are restricted to a single function.

Debuffing enemies
The official Anrica notice, dated October 3, 2024, describes Bewitching Swamp as reducing enemy defense and Foxfire as capable of reducing enemy attack. Those effects illustrate two distinct ways a character can support a party: making enemies more vulnerable or less dangerous. Check the current skill descriptions in game before relying on specific effects or values.
Buffing allies
The official Lunaria notice, dated April 2, 2024, gives examples of buffs to defense, attack, elemental damage and skill damage. When assessing a potential support character, look at which allies a skill affects and what it improves; do not assume every buff has the same scope or applies to every situation.

Dealing damage
Damage is another relevant contribution, but the sources here do not establish a character ranking or a best damage dealer. Compare the available skills in the context of the enemy’s element and the benefits your other characters provide instead of treating an unsupported tier list as a party-building rule.
How to combine damage, buffs and debuffs
A player-authored GameFAQs guide by gorookazaki, updated January 25, 2025, suggests “DPS + Support (Buffer) + Debuffer” as a standard composition. Treat that as a community heuristic, not an official requirement. It can help you check whether your party has varied contributions, but it does not prove that every encounter needs one character in each category or that a particular trio is best.

Use the heuristic as a prompt: does the lineup have a way to deal damage, and do its other skills add useful effects against this enemy? If a character’s skill can both contribute damage and affect allies or enemies, judge the effect itself rather than forcing that character into one exclusive role.

Character details and party behavior can change. METRIA’s official important-notice index lists a notice dated August 27, 2026, titled “Regarding Changes to ‘Shared Buff’ Mechanics in Party Setup and Multiplayer.” The index entry identifies a change but does not state what the changed rules are. Do not infer how shared buffs now work from the title alone; check the full official notice and current in-game descriptions before planning around that mechanic.

Pocket Gamer’s beginner guide describes using one main character and two sub-characters. That is third-party guidance, not a guarantee that current menus or party rules still work the same way. Confirm the active party setup in the live game before following any menu-specific directions.
