What the original rumor claimed
Before Nintendo’s reveal, Destructoid reported that a Brazilian age-rating listing had briefly appeared and then been removed. According to that report, the listing named Metroid Ravenous and gave 2026 as the production year. Destructoid also relayed leaker Necrolipe’s claim that Nintendo had submitted 41 minutes of footage to the ratings board. Those details were reported leak claims, not information Nintendo confirmed in its announcement.

What the reveal trailer shows
Game Informer’s coverage of the trailer describes Samus on an alien moon after an attack. The footage shows her draining energy from foes, dashing through walls, running across water and using a parry mechanic that the coverage compares with Metroid Dread. These are observations from the reveal trailer, not a complete or final list of gameplay abilities.
In narration transcribed by Game Informer, Samus says she has been attacked by unknown assailants and badly injured, and that she must feed on enemies to survive. Nintendo’s own tagline is “It’s eat or be eaten.”
Game Informer characterizes the story as seemingly taking place after Metroid Dread. Nintendo’s announcement does not state where Ravenous falls in the series timeline, so its precise narrative placement has not been officially established in the announcement.

Launch amiibo and reported editions
Nintendo announced two Metroid Ravenous amiibo figures for launch: Samus and a Chozo Statue. Nintendo says they are sold separately from the game.
Nintendo Life has reported additional purchase details, including a US standard physical edition priced $10 above the digital version and a special edition with the game, a steel case and a third Samus (Metroid Suit) amiibo. These are secondary-source details; edition contents and prices may differ by region or change. Check the live retailer listing for the edition, format and price available where you are buying.

When Nintendo announced Metroid Dread in 2021, it called it the first new 2D Metroid story in 19 years and said the game takes place after Metroid Fusion. That 19-year figure described the gap before Dread; it is not the time between Dread and Ravenous.
Ravenous is now confirmed as a new 2D entry, but Nintendo’s announcement does not specify its exact place in the story chronology. Game Informer’s trailer-based impression of a post-Dread setting should therefore be treated as coverage, not confirmed series canon.
