The cases are at different stages: Tennessee and Iowa have reported that courts allowed some claims to continue, but neither ruling is a finding that Roblox broke the law. A separate Ohio securities case concerns alleged investor losses, not child-protection relief.
What the lawsuits are about
The government cases generally challenge Roblox’s safeguards and its representations about safety. Depending on the plaintiff and jurisdiction, allegations include inadequate moderation or age verification, children’s exposure to harmful content or adult contact, and misleading statements or omissions about the risks. These are claims made by plaintiffs; announcements of lawsuits do not establish that the allegations are true.
The cases are not one nationwide lawsuit. Each has its own plaintiff, legal theory and procedural history. The table summarizes the developments reported in official announcements through October 8, 2026; it is not a complete review of every court docket.

What the Tennessee and Iowa rulings mean
A motion-to-dismiss decision is an early procedural ruling about whether claims may proceed, not a trial verdict. Tennessee’s September 22, 2026 announcement expressly says the court did not make a final finding that Roblox deceived consumers. Iowa’s May 14, 2026 account likewise describes claims surviving dismissal, rather than a finding that the state proved them.

Accordingly, these updates show that parts of the two cases remain active as reported by the states. They do not establish liability, determine damages, or prove that every allegation in either case is true.
What Roblox says about its safety measures
In an August 2025 response to Louisiana’s lawsuit, Roblox described age-based communication safeguards, text-chat filters, limits on direct messaging for users under 13 unless parental settings are adjusted, and a ban on users sharing images directly with one another. It also said it uses AI and human moderation and offers parental tools for content maturity, blocking and reporting, screen time, and spending limits. Roblox described introducing selfie-video age-estimation technology as well.

Those are the company’s descriptions of its own systems, not independent assessments of how effective they are. Roblox also said it submitted 24,522 reports to NCMEC in 2024, characterizing that figure as 0.12% of the 20.3 million total reports submitted to NCMEC. Both figures are Roblox’s, cited in its 2025 response; they are not an independently verified measure of how prevalent abuse is on Roblox or how well its safeguards work.
Scale figures cited by Los Angeles County
The county’s February 2026 announcement gives context for the scale of the platform, but its figures should be read with their stated attribution: they appear in a plaintiff’s announcement, not an independently assessed study. The county said that, as of late October 2025, Roblox had over 151 million daily active users and over 380 million monthly users, citing company reporting. It also said over 40% of users were under 13 and attributed to Roblox surveys the finding that nearly 75% of U.S. children ages 9–12 played Roblox regularly.

The Ohio case is about investors, not child-protection relief
In August 2026, the Ohio Attorney General announced that the office was seeking lead-plaintiff status in a securities class action concerning alleged investor losses tied to safety representations. The Ohio release described combined losses of $21.5 million for OPERS and STRS between October 2024 and April 2026. That is an allegation about investor losses, not a court-awarded amount or an established damages finding. This securities action is distinct from the state and county cases seeking child-safety or consumer-protection remedies.

- There are multiple, separate government cases; the plaintiff and jurisdiction matter when describing an allegation or update.
- The allegations concern different combinations of moderation, age verification, communications, safety representations and warnings. A claim in one case should not automatically be attributed to every other case.
- Roblox has publicly described safeguards and parental controls, but those company statements alone do not establish their effectiveness.
- The reported Tennessee and Iowa rulings allow claims to continue; neither is a final liability judgment.
