mgapilib.dll is missing, Windows cannot load it, or the application reports that the specified module could not be found. The file belongs to the OpenFlight API Library Module, so the safest fix is to identify the application that installed it and repair that application rather than downloading an isolated DLL.
Start with this diagnostic checklist
Before changing Windows files, answer these questions:

- Does it appear when launching the program, opening an OpenFlight database, or loading a plugin?
- Did the problem begin after an update, reinstall, cleanup, move to another drive, or antivirus detection?
- Is the application 32-bit or 64-bit?

mgapilib.dllabsent, or is it present but unable to load a dependency?
mgapilib.dll is not a Windows system component. It is associated with Presagis OpenFlight API and may be installed with Presagis software, Thea Lite, or another geospatial or simulation application that uses OpenFlight data. The exact owning program matters because different applications can use different OpenFlight API releases and compiler formats.

This is the quickest and most reliable fix when the file was deleted, damaged, or omitted during installation.

Repair from Windows Settings
- Press Windows + I.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Find the program that reports the
mgapilib.dllerror. - Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
- Start the application again.
Windows repairs the application without normally removing its user data. If there is no Repair button, use the program’s own maintenance option or reinstall it from the vendor’s original installer.
Repair from Control Panel
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter
appwiz.cpland press Enter. - Find the affected application.
- Right-click it.
- Choose Repair, Change, or Modify.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
If the application is managed by a launcher, open that launcher and look for Verify files, Repair, or Scan and repair. Use that function before manually replacing anything.
What success looks like
The application should start without the mgapilib.dll message, or it should progress to a different, more specific dependency error. If repair says the installation is already complete but the error remains, continue with a full reinstall.

If the application directly uses OpenFlight API, its installer may include the required library, or the application may expect a separately installed Presagis OpenFlight API release.
Presagis documentation describes Windows packages for Win32 and Win64 and includes different compiler formats. The documented Suite 22 default installation location is:
C:PresagisSuite22OpenFlight_API_22_0
Do not assume that installing the newest available package will fix every application. OpenFlight API releases can remain installed side by side, and a new release does not automatically replace older releases. The parent application may require a particular release or compiler variant.
Use the official Presagis OpenFlight API support portal or the application vendor’s installer. During setup:
- Close the affected application.
- Open the official installer.
- Choose the Windows installation option.
- Select the release required by the parent application.
- Select the correct 32-bit or 64-bit components.
- Allow the installer to complete.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch the application again.
If you do not know which package the application requires, check its installation folder, product documentation, or support instructions. Installing random versions until one works can leave multiple incompatible copies on the computer.

Fix 3: Match application architecture and Visual C++ format
A 64-bit version of Windows can run a 32-bit application. Therefore, the correct DLL is determined by the application, not simply by the operating system.
- A 32-bit application needs the Win32 OpenFlight files and x86 runtime.
- A 64-bit application needs the Win64 OpenFlight files and x64 runtime.
- A 32-bit program on 64-bit Windows still needs the 32-bit files.
OpenFlight API documentation identifies directory variants such as:
bin VC14-Win32
bin_x64 VC14-x64
bin_vc12 VC12-Win32
bin_vc12_x64 VC12-x64
The application may require VC8, VC9, VC12, or VC14 binaries. Do not treat Visual C++ 2015 as a universal answer.

If the application is running:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Details.
- Right-click a column heading.
- Choose Select columns.
- Enable Platform, where available.
- Check the application entry.
You can also inspect the application’s documentation or installer. If the program has separate x86 and x64 launchers, use the one that matches the installed OpenFlight components.
Install the required Microsoft runtime
If the error names a Visual C++ file, install the matching official Microsoft redistributable rather than copying that file separately.
For VC12 applications, use the Visual C++ 2013 Redistributable and select vcredist_x86.exe for a 32-bit application or vcredist_x64.exe for a 64-bit application.
For applications using supported v14 toolsets, Microsoft’s current Visual C++ redistributable page provides vc_redist.x86.exe and vc_redist.x64.exe. Install x86 when the parent application is 32-bit and x64 when it is 64-bit. Older VC8 and VC9 applications may require their corresponding older runtimes.

Restart Windows after installation and test the parent application. If the error still names mgapilib.dll, reinstall the parent application or OpenFlight API package rather than repeatedly reinstalling runtimes.

Fix 4: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software may quarantine or remove a vendor DLL after an update or installation.
Check Windows Security
- Open Start.
- Search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Look for an event involving the application folder or
mgapilib.dll.
Restore the file only if all of the following are true:
- It came from a verified Presagis or application-vendor installation.
- You recognize the application.
- The detection is understood.
- The application installer and its files are from an official source.
If you are unsure, do not restore the quarantined file. Uninstall and reinstall the application from its official installer instead. This replaces the file and its related dependencies as a set.

After restoring or reinstalling, add an exclusion only if the application vendor specifically requires it and you understand the security impact. Do not disable antivirus protection simply to force an unknown DLL to load.
Fix 5: Confirm that the file is in the correct application directory
Windows searches for DLLs using defined search rules that include the application’s directory and other locations. A copy in the wrong folder may be ignored, or it may cause an incompatible copy to load.
Open the affected program’s installation folder and search for mgapilib.dll. If it exists, its presence does not prove that it is usable. A dependency of the DLL may be missing, or the file may have the wrong architecture.
Do not copy it into:
C:WindowsSystem32
C:WindowsSysWOW64
Do not copy both 32-bit and 64-bit versions into Windows folders. The names of these folders are architecture-sensitive, and indiscriminate copying can create conflicts.

Manual replacement is reasonable only when the source is the same official installer or a known-good installation, the release exactly matches the application, and the file is placed in the application’s own directory. Reinstalling remains safer.

Fix 6: Do not register this DLL with Regsvr32
regsvr32 is not a general DLL repair command. It is intended for DLLs that expose a COM self-registration function such as DllRegisterServer.
There is no public Presagis instruction establishing that mgapilib.dll should be registered. Running commands such as these will not normally repair an OpenFlight library:
regsvr32 mgapilib.dll
regsvr32 C:WindowsSystem32mgapilib.dll
If the file is a normal application library, registration is unrelated to loading it. Repair the application, its OpenFlight package, and its dependencies instead.
Fix 7: Repair Windows components only as a secondary check
DISM and System File Checker repair Windows components. They do not normally restore a third-party Presagis DLL, so use them after repairing the parent application rather than as the first response.
- Open Start.
- Search for Command Prompt.
- Right-click it.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the application again.
If either command reports that it repaired Windows files, that may resolve a broader system problem, but it does not confirm that mgapilib.dll itself was repaired. If the application still fails, return to its official installer and dependency requirements.
Repeatedly hunting through Windows components and rerunning SFC or DISM can be time-consuming when the actual issue is an incomplete application install. An application update may restore a missing library or correct a loader configuration. Check the vendor’s official update channel, then restart Windows and test the program.
If the failure happens while rendering or opening a 3D database, update the graphics driver from the computer, graphics-card, or application vendor. Do not install a display driver merely because mgapilib.dll is missing, but update it when the application also reports rendering failures, crashes, or device errors.
To check drivers manually:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the graphics device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
Device Manager may not provide the newest vendor package. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and shows what it finds, while driver installation is handled by the full version; a driver update is not a substitute for reinstalling the application that owns mgapilib.dll.
Windows Features, DirectX repairs, and .NET repairs are not justified solely by this filename. Use them only when the error specifically names a related component or the application’s documentation requires it.

Why random DLL downloads are unsafe
Do not download mgapilib.dll from a random DLL website and do not replace it with a file from another computer unless the source is a verified installation of the same application and release.
An isolated download can have:
- The wrong OpenFlight API release
- The wrong 32-bit or 64-bit architecture
- A missing Visual C++ dependency
- A different build than the application expects
- Malware or tampered contents
The safe sources are the affected application’s official installer, the official Presagis OpenFlight API package, and Microsoft’s official Visual C++ redistributable pages for runtime dependencies.
If the error remains after reinstalling
If repair and reinstall restore the file but the program still will not start, investigate the complete loading chain:
- Confirm which executable is actually starting.
- Check whether a launcher or plugin uses a different installation directory.
- Confirm the application’s bitness.
- Check for multiple OpenFlight API releases.
- Check whether the selected VC12 or VC14 directory matches the program.
- Look for a second missing dependency in the error message.
- Check antivirus protection history again.
- Ask the application vendor which OpenFlight API release it supports.
“Specified module could not be found” can mean that a dependency of mgapilib.dll is missing even when the named file is visible. Windows reports the loader failure at the point where the application requests the library, not necessarily the exact file that is absent.

Should I install the 64-bit DLL because I use 64-bit Windows?
No. Match the DLL to the application. A 32-bit application on 64-bit Windows requires the Win32 library and x86 runtime.
Why does the error remain when mgapilib.dll is present?
A dependency may be missing, the DLL may have the wrong architecture, the application may select another OpenFlight release, or the required VC runtime may be absent.
Can I fix this with regsvr32?
