At the time, the company described a sportsbook, a skill-based CashMode product and a planned casual casino and minigames offering. Its Gen Z and millennial focus was company positioning—not a measured statistic about its customers.
Who led Midnite’s $16 million funding round?
The Raine Group led the first closing of Midnite’s $16 million Series A, announced February 1, 2022. Existing investors Makers Fund and Venrex increased their investment. Raine co-founder and partner John Salter was to join Midnite’s board, while managing director Garrett Gomes was to become a board observer. Midnite said it would use the proceeds to grow its platform. The company’s announcement is the source for the round’s size and terms.
Midnite was founded in 2018 by Nicholas Wright and Daniel Qu, who had previously created the daily fantasy sports platform Dribble. The announcement said the team worked closely with Sky Bet to launch Midnite. GamesBeat reported that Wright and Qu pitched the service to Gen Z and millennial audiences, describing a digital-first betting experience for gamers. Those statements explain the company’s intended positioning; they do not establish the ages of its users or its share of either generation. GamesBeat’s contemporaneous report included an interview with the founders.
What products did Midnite describe in 2022?
The funding announcement presented three distinct parts of the platform, with different launch statuses at that time:

September 2026: TikTok ad featuring a character judged to appear under 25
In a ruling dated September 16, 2026, the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) upheld a complaint about a paid-for TikTok ad seen on July 3. The authority judged that an AI-generated character appeared under 25 while gambling and played a significant role in the ad, breaching relevant CAP Code rules. Midnite told the ASA that the ad was created by affiliate Limay Media and had not been sanctioned by the company; Midnite said it had not contracted with the affiliate for paid social posts, ended the relationship and would remind affiliates of compliance requirements. Limay Media said its approval process had not been followed and described additional safeguards. These are the parties’ accounts recorded in the ASA ruling.

August 2026: ads judged to link gambling with escape from problems
In a separate ruling dated August 12, 2026, the ASA upheld complaints about five Midnite television, video-on-demand and radio ads from April and May 2026. It received 125 complaints about the ads under review. The authority concluded that the repeated sequence of frustrations followed by references to the betting and casino app suggested gambling could help people move on from or forget frustrations, presenting it as a coping mechanism. It ordered that the ads not appear again in the complained-of form. The finding concerned those five ads, not every Midnite advertisement. The ASA’s ruling records its conclusion and the responses from Midnite and the ad-clearance bodies.
