To spawn an endermite, throw an ender pearl yourself and wait for it to land: each landed pearl has a 5% chance of creating one. That is an independent chance on every throw, not a guarantee after a fixed number of attempts. If you do not need the mob, either kill its eight health points or move at least 16 blocks away and wait about two minutes for normal despawning. If you are building an enderman farm, contain the endermite immediately and give it a name tag so it does not disappear.

This guide explains the exact spawn roll, practical ways to deal with a nuisance endermite, and why farms use one as bait for endermen. Behavior figures from Microsoft’s cited entity definition are specifically for vanilla Bedrock, so confirm details in the edition and version you play.

What an endermite is

An endermite is a tiny hostile arthropod created by the impact of a player-thrown ender pearl. It is not a reward item and it does not appear every time a pearl is used. Its main importance is its relationship with endermen: endermen attack endermites, allowing a safely contained endermite to act as a lure in an enderman farm.

Property Value Qualification
Spawn trigger Player-thrown ender pearl landing The 5% roll is made per landed pearl.
Maximum health 8 Listed in Microsoft’s 2023 vanilla Bedrock entity definition.
Attack damage 2 Listed for the Bedrock entity definition.
Nearest attackable target radius 16 blocks Bedrock definition value; this is a targeting field, not a promise that every edition behaves identically.
Normal despawn About two minutes when the player is at least 16 blocks away The ordinary timed rule does not apply after the endermite is name-tagged.
Item drops None listed The mob-farm reference lists no item drops.
Experience 3 points Microsoft’s Bedrock definition awards this when the last hit is by a player.

Because an endermite is hostile, an uncontained one can attack you or interfere with nearby activity. The same aggression toward endermen that makes it valuable in a farm makes an exposed farm lure hazardous: an enderman can reach and attack it if your holding arrangement is open.

How to spawn an endermite

1. Get ready before throwing

Obtain ender pearls and choose a landing area where you can control the mob. If the purpose is an enderman farm, finish the endermite’s holding arrangement first. Have the containment and the minecart or equivalent setup ready before you make the spawn roll; otherwise the new mob may wander into danger while you are still building.

For a one-off test, use an area where you have room to retreat. Do not throw a pearl into an uncontrolled location and assume the endermite will wait for you.

2. Throw the pearl yourself

Use the ender pearl as a player, and let it land. The relevant roll occurs when that player-thrown pearl lands. A pearl that does not produce an endermite has simply failed that attempt; it does not increase the odds of the next pearl.

3. Check the landing point

Look for the small hostile mob immediately after impact. A successful roll can produce an endermite on the first throw, but there is no fixed throw count that guarantees one. If it does not appear, continue only when you have enough pearls and a safe landing area.

4. Repeat without treating the odds as a schedule

Every landed pearl has the same 5% chance. The useful way to think about repeated attempts is the chance of at least one success after several independent throws:

Number of landed pearls Chance of at least one endermite What it means
1 5% A single attempt can fail nine times out of ten in broad terms; one result says nothing about the next.
5 About 22.6% Most five-pearl sequences still produce none.
10 About 40.1% Ten throws remain more likely to fail than to succeed.
20 About 64.2% This is not a guarantee; roughly 35.8% of such sequences still contain no spawn.
40 About 87.1% A strong cumulative chance, but unlucky runs remain possible.
60 About 95.4% High cumulative probability, not certainty.

These cumulative figures use the standard calculation 1 - 0.95n, where n is the number of landed player throws. They describe probability, not a hidden counter that must eventually pay out.

Why an enderman farm needs an endermite

Endermen attack endermites. A farm exploits that hostile relationship by placing an endermite where endermen can detect it and then routing the endermen toward a controlled kill chamber. The endermite is bait; it is not the mechanism that deals the final damage.

Prepare the lure before the spawn

Build or stage the containment arrangement before throwing the pearl. The available references establish the lure relationship and the need for a contained mob, but they do not define one universal schematic. Your minecart, enclosure, or equivalent holding method must match the farm design, game edition, and version.

Secure the new mob immediately

Once an endermite appears, move it into the prepared holding position instead of leaving it on open terrain. Keep the enclosure closed enough that an enderman can be drawn toward the lure without being able to destroy or bypass the holding arrangement. An open setup turns the farm’s attraction mechanic into a liability.

Apply a name tag when the farm is permanent

Name-tag the endermite after it is safely contained. A named endermite does not follow the ordinary timed despawn rule described for an unnamed one, so naming is the practical way to preserve a farm lure between sessions. Naming does not replace physical containment: the mob remains hostile and endermen can still attack it.

Verify the farm in your edition

Test the lure with the exact Java or Bedrock version you play. Microsoft’s cited data is a vanilla Bedrock behavior-pack definition, while the spawn and farm references are general gameplay documentation. The shared facts support the lure strategy, but they do not establish a complete Java-versus-Bedrock equivalence table or a universal build layout.

How to get rid of an unwanted endermite

Kill it directly

Ordinary melee attacks are enough for a nuisance endermite because it has only 8 health. Keep your aim low and avoid chasing it into an area where another hostile mob or an enderman can create a second threat. In Bedrock, the cited entity definition gives 3 experience points when a player makes the final hit; no item drop is listed.

Wait for natural despawning

If you do not want to fight, move at least 16 blocks away from the endermite and stay away for the normal roughly two-minute despawn window. This is a timed escape, not an instant removal command: remain outside the stated distance long enough for the rule to take effect. If you return too soon, you may find the mob still present.

Preserve it instead of removing it

If the endermite was created for a farm, do not rely on the timed rule. Put it in the prepared holding arrangement and use a name tag. A named endermite is exempt from the ordinary timed despawn behavior, which is why naming matters for a permanent lure.

Control nearby targets

Keep the endermite away from unintended targets while deciding what to do. Endermen are hostile to it, so an exposed endermite can attract an enderman into an area where you did not intend a fight. This is especially important during farm construction, when temporary openings and unfinished walls can let the lure or an attacking enderman escape the planned route.

What the 16-block figures mean

Two different 16-block facts are associated with endermites in the available documentation. Microsoft’s Bedrock entity data lists a 16-block nearest attackable-target radius. Separately, the practical despawn guidance says that moving at least 16 blocks away lets a player wait for normal despawning. Do not treat these as one universal radius for every behavior or edition: the first is a structured Bedrock targeting field, while the second is a gameplay distance used for the timed despawn advice.

For a farm, the targeting value helps explain why an endermite can serve as nearby bait. For removal, the safe procedure is simpler: create at least the stated 16-block separation and allow the approximately two-minute window to pass.

Common problems and the correct response

“I threw several pearls and got nothing.”

That result is compatible with a 5% per-pearl chance. Ten throws still leave about a 59.9% chance of no endermite, and twenty leave about 35.8%. Check that each attempt used a player-thrown pearl that landed, then continue from a safe position rather than assuming the game is counting toward a guaranteed spawn.

“An endermite appeared, then vanished.”

If it was unnamed and you moved away, the normal roughly two-minute despawn behavior may have removed it. For a farm, name-tag the mob after containing it. Naming is the documented way to avoid the ordinary timed despawn rule.

“The endermite is attacking me.”

It is a hostile mob, so either defeat it with melee attacks or retreat at least 16 blocks and wait for despawning. Do not leave it loose near an unfinished farm, where it can attract an enderman before your enclosure is ready.

“The lure does not behave exactly as a tutorial shows.”

Check the edition and version first. The cited numerical entity fields are for vanilla Bedrock, and no complete Java-versus-Bedrock behavior table is established here. A tutorial built for another edition may use a different containment geometry or timing assumption even though the enderman-versus-endermite hostility is the same core farm idea.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

“I expected loot from the kill.”

The mob-farm reference lists no item drops. In the cited Bedrock definition, a player’s final hit awards 3 experience points, but that experience value should not be generalized to every edition without checking that edition’s data.

Choosing the right approach

Your goal Best action Reason
Remove an accidental spawn quickly Kill it with melee attacks Eight health makes direct removal straightforward.
Avoid combat Move at least 16 blocks away and wait about two minutes Uses the normal timed despawn behavior.
Build an enderman farm Contain it, then name-tag it Endermen attack it, and naming prevents ordinary timed despawning.
Test spawn odds Use repeated player-thrown pearls and record attempts Each landing is a fresh 5% roll; there is no fixed success attempt.

Endermite facts at a glance

  • A player-thrown ender pearl has a 5% chance to create an endermite when it lands.
  • The chance applies independently to each pearl; twenty throws are not a guarantee.
  • The mob has 8 health in the cited Bedrock entity definition and attack damage 2.
  • Microsoft’s Bedrock data lists a 16-block nearest attackable-target radius.
  • Moving at least 16 blocks away and waiting roughly two minutes allows the normal despawn rule to remove an unnamed nuisance endermite.
  • A name-tagged endermite avoids that ordinary timed despawn behavior.
  • Endermen attack endermites, which is the basis for using one as a farm lure.
  • No item drops are listed; the cited Bedrock definition awards 3 experience points for a player’s final hit.
