Minecraft had crossed 300 million copies sold by October 2023, Mojang said in its official Minecraft Live recap. The game’s 15th anniversary came on May 17, 2024, with limited-time in-game rewards, free downloadable content and a LEGO tie-in. The sales figure is a dated milestone, not a current total.
When did Minecraft reach 300 million copies sold?
Mojang Studios reported on October 15, 2023, that Minecraft had recently “crossed 300 million copies sold.” Microsoft repeated the milestone in a 2024 developer article, noting that it had been announced the prior year. Neither statement establishes a newer cumulative sales figure, so 300 million should be read as the reported 2023 milestone, not a current count.

The figure counts copies sold; it is not a count of unique players. The same 2023 recap reported separate activity statistics—15 million pickaxes crafted, 6.7 million diamonds discovered and 15 million skeletons slain—based on a 30-day average of Minecraft activity from September to October 2023. Those numbers describe in-game activity, not sales.
