In Minecraft: Java Edition, F3+H toggles detailed item descriptions, such as extra item information in tooltips. To see the shortcuts supported by your installed game version, press F3+Q in-game. The F3 debug combinations below are Java Edition controls; they are not a Bedrock, console, or mobile reference.
Standalone F-key commands
Minecraft’s official hotkey list documents these standalone function-key actions. It does not give a standalone command for every key from F1 through F12.

F3 shortcuts for information and debugging
| Shortcut | Action |
|---|---|
| F3+Q | Display the in-game help listing debug-menu shortcuts. This is the most direct way to check which shortcuts your installed version supports. |
| F3+H | Toggle detailed item descriptions. |
| F3+B | Toggle entity hitboxes. |
| F3+D | Clear chat history, including previous commands. |
| F3+G | Show chunk boundaries around the player. |
| F3+1 | Display the profiler graph. With the debug screen open, number keys 1–9 show more detailed views of the graph on the right, while 0 shows a less detailed graph; exact output can depend on the game version. |
| F3+4 | Enable the lightmap debug renderer in Java Edition 26.1. It is mutually exclusive with the FPS/TPS and networking charts. |
The Java Edition 26.1 release notes introduce the lightmap control: Minecraft Java Edition 26.1 release notes.

F3 shortcuts that change game mode or can crash the game
F3+N: switch to spectator mode
Cycle between spectator mode and the previous game mode.
F3+F4: open the Game Mode Switcher
Hold F3 and tap F4 to open the switcher, then tap F4 to cycle through the options or use the mouse. Release F3 to apply the selected mode. Mojang documented this control in its 20W20A snapshot notes.
F3+C: trigger a manual debug crash
Hold F3+C for 10 seconds, then release the keys to trigger a manual debug crash. This is not a routine refresh command; avoid holding the combination unless you intend to crash the game.

In the Java Edition 1.21.9 release line, F3+F6 opens Debug Options. An earlier 25w31a snapshot used F3+F5, but Pre-Release 4 changed the shortcut to F3+F6; use F3+F6 for the release-line documentation. Mojang’s Java Edition 1.21.9 release notes cover the debug-overlay changes.

- The classic UNO card game builds fun on game night with a Minecraft theme.
- UNO Minecraft features a deck and storage tin decorated with graphics from the popular video game.
- Players match colors and numbers to the card on top of the discard pile as in the classic game.
- The Creeper card unique to this deck forces other players to draw 3 cards.
- Makes a great gift for kid, teen, adult and family game nights with 2 to 10 players ages 7 years and older, especially Minecraft and video game fans.
Java 1.21.9 also reworked the debug overlay to show less information by default. The available controls can differ between releases, so the local F3+Q help is the practical check for your build.

Edition and keyboard caveats
- This reference is for Minecraft: Java Edition on a keyboard. The Java-specific F3 debug shortcuts should not be assumed to work in Bedrock Edition, on consoles, or on mobile. See Minecraft’s controls guide for general edition controls.
- Some keyboards handle function keys differently, but the official documentation cited here does not establish one universal Fn-key procedure. Check your keyboard’s own settings or documentation if a keypress is intercepted.
- The official hotkey help page does not provide a version stamp. For current shortcut availability, open the game and press F3+Q.
