Minecraft Revelation Modpack Guide: Progression and Server Setup

A practical FTB Revelation guide covering 1.12.2 versions, launcher installation, first-world progression choices, Java and RAM requirements, and matching client/server setup.

FTB Revelation is a Minecraft 1.12.2 “kitchen-sink” modpack: it combines technology, magic, exploration, combat and building instead of forcing everyone through one quest line. The safest way to play is to install it through a supported modpack launcher, then build a small survival base before choosing a specialty. For multiplayer, use the official Feed The Beast server installer for the exact release your group installs, keep client and server files identical, run the pack with Java 8, and allocate at least the pack’s documented 4 GB recommendation.

What FTB Revelation is

Feed The Beast describes Revelation as a “general all-purpose pack.” That description is more useful than calling it a single-theme progression pack: you can move from ordinary survival into machines, automation, magic systems, dimension travel, boss preparation, logistics or elaborate construction without abandoning the other options. The pack was designed to include technology mods, magic mods, exploration and building while remaining suitable for multiplayer servers.

Revelation is a Java modpack for Minecraft 1.12.2. A CurseForge listing identifies FTB Revelation-3.4.0.zip as its latest release in that listing, dated December 8, 2020. The official Feed The Beast server-files page separately lists server release 3.7.0 (ID 12180), alongside 3.6.0, 3.5.0 beta, 3.4.0, 3.3.0 and 3.2.0. Those are different release contexts, not a contradiction you should silently ignore. Select one release for your group and obtain both client and server files for that same release.

The CurseForge/FTB listing recorded 3,034,690 total downloads in 2026. That number indicates broad use, but it does not change the version, Java or memory requirements documented for the 1.12.2 pack.

Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

What you need before installing

  • Minecraft Java & Bedrock Edition for PC: own the PC edition before installing the modpack. Revelation itself runs in the Java modded environment.
  • A supported launcher: the Feed The Beast App is the straightforward beginner route; another launcher is possible if it supports the selected Revelation release.
  • Java 8: the pack page recommends the latest Java 8 release. Java 9 is explicitly unsupported.
  • Memory: Feed The Beast and CurseForge state that a minimum of 4 GB of RAM is recommended for clients and servers for best performance. Treat this as a pack-era recommendation for the documented 1.12.2 releases, not as a rule for modern Minecraft versions.
  • Disk space and backups: leave room for the launcher’s downloaded files, the server installation and world backups. No single universal disk figure is published because world size depends on exploration and player activity.

Which Revelation release should you use?

Release alignment matters more than choosing the largest number you see. The client listing’s 3.4.0 file and the server-files page’s 3.7.0 entry expose different release views. Before anyone launches, write down the exact release identifier your group is adopting, then install that identifier on every client and on the server.

Where the release appears Release information How to use it
CurseForge client listing FTB Revelation-3.4.0.zip, dated December 8, 2020 Use this as the client-side listing context; verify that your launcher installs the same release selected by the server operator.
Official Feed The Beast server-files page 3.7.0, ID 12180 Use the matching server package when your group chooses 3.7.0.
Older server entries 3.6.0, 3.5.0 beta, 3.4.0, 3.3.0 and 3.2.0 These are available release choices only when the clients also use the identical version.

Do not mix a 3.7.0 server with a 3.4.0 client simply because both are labeled Revelation. A mismatch can prevent connections or create differences in registries, recipes and world content. If you are preserving an existing world, keep its current release until you have made a tested backup and confirmed that every player can install the target version.

How to install Revelation with a launcher

The launcher route is the least error-prone way to install a large pack because it obtains the mod list and configuration as one managed instance. The official getting-started guide presents this as the easiest approach.

  1. Install or confirm the PC edition. Sign in with the account that owns Minecraft Java & Bedrock Edition for PC. If the launcher asks you to authenticate again, finish that step before importing a modpack.
  2. Install the FTB App or another supported launcher. Use the launcher’s normal installer for your operating system and allow it to finish its first update.
  3. Open the modpack catalogue. Search for FTB Revelation, then check the displayed Minecraft version and release number rather than selecting a similarly named pack.
  4. Choose the release. Match the release that your server operator selected. If the launcher offers 3.4.0 while the server team selected 3.7.0, stop and resolve that difference before downloading.
  5. Install the instance. Let the launcher download the pack, libraries and configuration. The first initialization can take several minutes and may appear idle while files are being unpacked.
  6. Check Java and memory settings. Select Java 8 in the launcher’s runtime settings and ensure the instance has access to the documented memory recommendation. Do not point the instance at Java 9.
  7. Launch once before adding anything. Start a clean instance and reach the title screen or a test world. This separates a pack installation problem from a later conflict caused by manually added mods or settings.

The getting-started walkthrough is optional hand-holding, not a quest requirement. Its own wording says, “Of course, you do not need to follow this guide to start playing.” You can use it to learn unfamiliar systems, but Revelation does not lock the world behind completion of that walkthrough.

Older MultiMC and legacy guidance

An older wiki walkthrough documents MultiMC and the FTB Legacy list for Revelation 3.2.1, released October 29, 2019. Treat those instructions as version-era guidance. Menu names, import methods and available instance definitions may not match a current launcher or a newer Revelation release. If you use that workflow for an archival world, pin the documented 3.2.1 files and avoid silently upgrading the instance.

What to do first in a new world

Revelation’s open-ended design rewards a stable foundation before specialization. Your first session should secure the ordinary survival tasks that every route consumes.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Claim a defensible base site. Choose room for expansion, access to common terrain and a manageable travel route. A compact starter shelter is enough; the goal is safety and organization, not a finished megabase.
  2. Collect food and basic tools. Establish a repeatable food source, then gather wood, stone and early metals. Keep spare tools so an accidental death does not end the session.
  3. Set up storage immediately. Separate building blocks, ores, mob drops, food and machine components. Good labeling prevents duplicate mining trips and makes later automation easier.
  4. Mark ore and resource locations. Record cave entrances, useful biomes and safe travel paths. Exploration data becomes valuable when a technology or magic recipe demands a specific material.
  5. Choose one first system, not every system. Start a small technology, magic, exploration or building project while preserving space for the others. Revelation becomes overwhelming when every mod is opened at once.
  6. Document what you learn. Keep the relevant in-game guide, recipe viewer or mod documentation nearby. Many systems have their own terminology and progression loops.

Choosing a progression route

There is no canonical Revelation endgame. Compare routes by the resources they consume, how much infrastructure they create, how dangerous their exploration is, how steep the learning curve feels and how useful the result is to a shared server.

Route Early focus Resource and infrastructure cost Automation potential Risk and learning load Value on a shared server
Technology Power generation, machines, processing and item movement Requires ores, a protected machine area and a dependable power chain High; machines can turn repeatable inputs into materials and products Usually lower combat risk after the base is secured, but recipes and power networks take study High; automated processing and shared utilities benefit every player
Magic One mod’s early altar, ritual or resource loop Depends on the chosen mod’s components, catalysts and dedicated workspace Ranges from limited to substantial, depending on the system High learning load because each magic mod has different rules; some components require dangerous trips Medium to high when players divide specialties and share rare ingredients
Exploration and combat Equipment upgrades, travel infrastructure and preparation for dimensions or bosses Consumes food, armor, weapons and travel supplies rather than only stationary machines Lower at first; later infrastructure can support resupply and transport Highest immediate danger and preparation burden High for groups that enjoy expeditions and can distribute loot
Building and quality of life Storage, transport, decoration and base utilities Steady demand for blocks and organization systems; usually easier to stage incrementally Indirect; storage and transport improvements reduce manual work Low danger, but large builds create long-term material and planning demands High because a clear base, shared storage and transport help every specialty

Technology progression

Technology is the natural choice when your goal is repeatable production. Begin with a modest power source and a small number of machines that solve immediate bottlenecks: ore processing, fuel handling, material crafting or item movement. Expanding every machine at once produces a room full of disconnected blocks, so build in a chain: input storage, processing, output storage and a visible power path.

Build a reliable foundation

  • Reserve a dedicated machine room with space for cables, conduits and future upgrades.
  • Keep raw ores and processed materials in separate inventories so automation does not consume your building reserve.
  • Record the fuel or power input for each machine before adding more machines. A larger factory is useful only when its power supply remains stable.
  • Automate one repetitive task at a time, then test the output before connecting the next stage.

Make technology useful to the group

On a server, prioritize systems that remove work for everyone: shared ore processing, dependable storage, transport between common areas and a clearly labeled output area. Agree on ownership and access before automating valuable resources. A technically impressive network that only its creator can operate becomes a bottleneck rather than a community asset.

Magic progression

Magic is best approached as a sequence of small experiments. Pick one magic mod and learn its early altar, ritual or resource loop before opening another. Keep the mod’s documentation beside you because names, ingredient handling and progression rules differ across systems.

  • What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.

Control the learning curve

  1. Build a quiet, well-lit workspace separate from ordinary storage.
  2. Gather only the ingredients for the first documented step instead of collecting every unusual item you see.
  3. Complete one ritual or resource loop and verify its output before scaling it.
  4. Label intermediate materials; magical components that look similar may serve different stages.
  5. Invite a second player to observe the process before making it a shared dependency.

Magic can complement technology rather than compete with it. Use ordinary storage, transport and power infrastructure where the magic system allows it, while keeping the mod-specific progression intact.

Exploration and combat progression

Exploration becomes a progression route when you treat travel and survival as infrastructure. Upgrade equipment, establish safe routes and prepare a return plan before attempting a dimension, boss area or unfamiliar structure.

  • Travel preparation: carry food, replacement tools, lighting and a way to mark the route. A named waypoint or written coordinate record is more reliable than memory.
  • Recovery planning: leave valuable base items at home and create a restock chest near the departure point.
  • Team roles: decide who handles combat, navigation, building temporary cover and collecting drops.
  • Staged objectives: scout first, return with information, then attempt the full objective with equipment selected for the known threat.

This route has the highest immediate danger, but it can unlock materials and locations that support every other specialty. Do not treat a failed expedition as a reason to abandon the pack; use the loss to improve preparation and travel infrastructure.

Building and quality-of-life progression

Building is not a detour from technical play. Storage, transport, lighting and workspace design determine how quickly every later project can be maintained. Start with a compact, expandable layout and reserve corridors for future cables, pipes or item movement.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Priorities for a shared base

  • A labeled communal storage area with clear rules for personal chests and public materials.
  • Separate rooms for machines, magical work and noisy or dangerous experiments.
  • A safe route between the base, farms, mines and expedition staging area.
  • Visible signs or written notes explaining machine inputs, power limits and access expectations.

Quality-of-life work has low combat risk and can progress alongside any other route. Its benefit is cumulative: every minute saved finding items or crossing the base becomes time available for exploration, magic or automation.

How to set up an FTB Revelation server

Use the official Feed The Beast server-files page for the release your group selected. The installer creates the server environment and launch script; it is safer than assembling individual mods by hand.

  1. Create a dedicated server folder. Use a folder reserved for the Revelation server and its world. Keeping the installation separate from downloads and personal client instances makes backups and upgrades easier.
  2. Download the platform installer for the chosen release. Select the Windows or macOS package that corresponds to the release identifier. Do not download a different version because it appears newer.
  3. Place the installer in the server folder. The generated libraries, configuration files, world and launch script should remain together.
  4. Run the installer. On Windows, the server-files page supplies an Invoke-WebRequest command for obtaining the installer. On macOS, it supplies a curl command. Copy the command from the official page for your selected release and operating system rather than adapting a command from another version.
  5. Accept the EULA when prompted. The first run normally stops until the EULA file has been accepted. Open the generated EULA file, follow its instruction, save it and run the installer or launch script again.
  6. Start the generated server script. Use the launch script created by the installer, not an arbitrary Java command copied from a different pack. The first successful start creates the world and server configuration.
  7. Set the server Java executable explicitly. Document the full Java path used by the launch script so another administrator can reproduce the setup after a restart or migration.
  8. Connect one test client before inviting friends. Use a client instance with the identical Revelation release. Test that the world loads, basic blocks and recipes behave as expected and the server remains running after a player disconnects.

Windows notes

Run the official Windows download instruction from a PowerShell window in, or targeted at, the server folder. Confirm that the installer file appears there before launching it. If Windows hides file extensions, verify that you are executing the installer and not a text file containing the command.

macOS notes

Use the official macOS curl instruction in Terminal, then inspect the downloaded file and make the generated launch script executable if the installer documentation requests it. Keep the Java path recorded in the script so a future administrator does not accidentally select an unsupported runtime.

RAM, Java and performance expectations

The pack page’s explicit baseline is at least 4 GB of RAM for both clients and servers for best performance. This is an allocation recommendation for Revelation’s 1.12.2 environment, not a promise that every world, view distance or player count will perform identically. A busy world, extensive exploration and large automated systems can create more work than a fresh test world.

Use the latest Java 8 release supported by your launcher or operating system. Java 9 is not supported by Revelation. If the launcher or server reports an unsupported-runtime error, point it to the Java 8 executable documented in your setup instead of changing mods or world files.

Keeping a multiplayer world healthy

Back up before every release change

Stop the server cleanly, copy the complete world folder and retain the pack release alongside the backup. A backup without its version record is difficult to restore correctly. Do not upgrade a live world first and investigate compatibility afterward; test the new release on a copy.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Keep clients and server identical

Record the release number in your group’s instructions and ask each player to confirm it before troubleshooting. When one player cannot connect, verify the exact client release before changing Java settings, deleting configuration files or replacing the world.

Assign administrative responsibilities

  • One person maintains the installation and Java path.
  • One person verifies backups and restoration procedures.
  • Players agree where communal resources may be stored and which machines are public.
  • Everyone reports newly added manual mods or configuration changes before they become connection problems.

Troubleshooting common failures

The launcher cannot find Revelation

Confirm that you are searching the modpack catalogue rather than a vanilla version list, then check that the launcher supports the 1.12.2 pack. If the catalogue exposes a different release from the server, select the server’s release or ask the operator to choose a release available to every player.

The game starts, then closes during initialization

Check the selected Java executable first. Revelation requires the Java 8 generation and does not support Java 9. Re-run a clean instance without manually added mods, allow initialization to finish, and only then restore custom settings one change at a time.

A player cannot join the server

  1. Compare the complete client and server release identifiers, not just the word Revelation.
  2. Confirm that the player launched the intended instance rather than another 1.12.2 profile.
  3. Check that the server is fully started and remains running after the connection attempt.
  4. Review the server log for a registry, mod-list or Java error before changing world files.

The server stops during first startup

Confirm that the EULA was accepted in the generated file, that the launch script points to the documented Java 8 executable and that the installer was run in the folder intended to hold the server. Starting the generated script again after correcting one issue at a time produces a clearer diagnostic than replacing several files at once.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Performance worsens as the world grows

Compare the current world with a fresh test world to separate pack configuration from accumulated exploration and automation. Check the server’s memory allocation against the pack recommendation, reduce simultaneous heavy automation and keep backups before changing configuration. Do not assume that adding unrelated mods will solve a world-specific load problem.

A practical first-week plan

  1. Session one: establish shelter, food, tools, storage and a written release record.
  2. Session two: map nearby resources and choose either a small machine chain, a first magic loop, an exploration objective or a base-utility project.
  3. Session three: make that first system reliable, label its inputs and outputs, and document what another player needs to use it.
  4. Session four: improve travel and recovery, then attempt a larger resource run or add a second complementary system.
  5. After the first week: decide whether your group benefits more from deeper automation, a specialized magic area, organized expeditions or shared infrastructure. Keep the other routes available rather than declaring one the official progression.

That plan respects Revelation’s design: a broad sandbox where technology, magic, exploration and building reinforce one another. Install a matching release, establish a dependable base, then let your group’s goals determine which systems deserve the next investment.
