The Minecraft Winter Drop does not have an officially announced full-release date or time in the Minecraft sources reviewed as of October 4, 2026. That means there is no reliable launch countdown yet. The drop is in testing, but its preview and beta availability is not the public release.
When does the Minecraft Winter Drop come out?
Minecraft has not announced the Winter Drop’s public release date or launch time in the official sources reviewed as of October 4, 2026. Do not treat a guessed date, hour, or countdown as confirmed.
Minecraft LIVE Fall 2026 took place virtually on September 26, 2026, at 1 PM ET and teased chilly features for the next drop. That was the event time, not a release time for the update. The official Bedrock Preview 26.60.29 notes and testing roundup, both published September 30, describe the upcoming release as “Drop 4 of 2026” and the final game drop of 2026, but neither gives a full-release date or hour.
Since there is no confirmed launch timestamp, a countdown timer would be misleading. Once Minecraft publishes a release time, use the stated timezone when calculating a local countdown; do not convert the Minecraft LIVE start time into an update launch time.

Is the Winter Drop available to play now?
It is available for testing, not as a confirmed public full release. Java players can try features in snapshots, while Bedrock players can use Preview or beta builds, according to Minecraft’s testing roundup.
Testing versions can corrupt worlds. Minecraft advises backing up worlds or using a separate save folder before opening them in a snapshot, Preview, or beta build. Treat experimental features as subject to change before release.

What is in the Winter Drop preview?
The September 30 Bedrock Preview 26.60.29 notes list these as experimental features for “Drop 4 of 2026”; they are preview content, not guarantees about the final update:
- An Ice Cave biome beneath colder Overworld biomes, with packed ice and calcite terrain.
- Hanging and ground icicles, along with naturally occurring ice crystals.
- A Freezing effect and ice balls that can be thrown as projectiles.
- The Frostbite, a zombie variant that can inflict Freezing and throw ice balls.
The preview notes and testing roundup provide the current official feature descriptions.

Minecraft’s update timeline says game drops are free content released several times a year and generally arrive on the same day for Java and Bedrock. That general guidance does not establish the date or launch hour for this specific drop.
