Minecraft’s Chase the Skies drop launched on June 17, 2025, for both Java and Bedrock—not tomorrow. It added the Happy Ghast and other gameplay features to both editions, while Vibrant Visuals launched only for compatible Bedrock devices. Java players have received some rendering improvements, but Minecraft’s latest Java status said work on Vibrant Visuals was still ongoing.
What did Chase the Skies add?
The drop brought a new flying mount, the Happy Ghast, plus the dried ghast block, its young Ghastling stage, harnesses, and a multiplayer Player Locator Bar. These gameplay additions are available in both Java and Bedrock editions.

Minecraft describes it as a visual refresh with reflective water, volumetric lighting, enhanced textures, infinite clouds, directional lighting, and fog. It does not add gameplay mechanics. Minecraft later described refinements to lighting, color, gamma, contrast, and performance, but has not published a specific frame-rate improvement.
How to get and ride a Happy Ghast
- Find or craft a dried ghast. Look for a dried ghast block in Nether Fossil structures, or craft one with one Soul Sand and eight Ghast Tears.
- Hydrate the block. Keep it waterlogged through about 20 minutes of hydration changes to spawn a Ghastling.
- Raise the Ghastling. It grows into an adult Happy Ghast after about 20 minutes. Feeding it Snowballs speeds up the process.
- Equip a harness. Fit the adult with a harness to ride it. A harnessed Happy Ghast can carry up to four players.
The Player Locator Bar helps multiplayer players find one another. A player can crouch to stay hidden from the bar.

Where is Vibrant Visuals available?
Minecraft’s current feature page lists Vibrant Visuals for compatible Bedrock devices. Availability depends on the device and its graphics hardware; the feature is not a universal setting on every platform.

|---|---|
| Xbox | Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One |
| PlayStation | PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 |
| PC | Windows PC running DirectX 12 (DX12) |

Marketplace compatibility has changed since launch. The June 2025 announcement said Marketplace Add-Ons, Skins, and Persona items would work, while Worlds and Texture Packs were not compatible at that time. Minecraft’s current feature page says selected Marketplace content features Vibrant Visuals. Check the details for a particular world or pack rather than assuming it will work.

Not yet, according to Minecraft’s latest dated Java status in the sources cited here. Java Edition 1.21.6 included the Happy Ghast and the other Chase the Skies gameplay features, along with fog improvements and clouds extending to the horizon. Those rendering changes were steps toward Vibrant Visuals, not the complete feature.
