Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme Vs. MaxiBoost ON is a strong choice for Gundam fans and players who enjoy mastering a fast, technical arena fighter. Its huge roster, substantial battle challenges, and online and offline co-op make it more than a simple versus game. The trade-off is a steep learning curve and a weak tutorial, and there is no story campaign. Push Square scored the PS4 release 8/10 in 2020.
What is Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme Vs. MaxiBoost ON?
Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme Vs. MaxiBoost ON is a PlayStation 4 port of the Japanese arcade game Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme Vs. Maxiboost. Bandai Namco says the arcade version began operating in Japan in 2016; the PS4 game released on July 30, 2020. Its battles are built around teams of two, making movement and coordination as important as choosing attacks. PlayStation’s official listing describes it as a 2-on-2 team battle action game.
The official PlayStation listing says the arcade roster includes 183 suits from 36 Gundam titles, while the console edition adds two suits that were not in the arcade version. Bandai Namco also identifies three EX BURST systems: Fighting Burst, Extend Burst, and Shooting Burst. These are official product specifications; they establish the scale and range of the offering, not how balanced each suit or system is. Bandai Namco’s game page has the publisher’s overview.
How does it play?
This is an arena fighter where staying mobile is fundamental. Boosting across the battlefield, sidestepping, and jumping help you evade attacks and create openings. Push Square’s review notes that those actions can feel difficult to manage while learning the controls. Each suit has its own attacks and combos, so getting comfortable with a preferred pick means practicing its tools rather than relying on one universal strategy.

That depth is a large part of the appeal, but it sets a demanding pace for newcomers. The learning curve is a recurring criticism in reviews, and the tutorial is widely regarded as inadequate. Expect to improve through repeated battles and suit-specific practice, rather than a guided introduction that explains everything clearly.

Other critic-review excerpts collected by Metacritic echo the praise for roster scale, combat depth, and arcade authenticity, alongside concerns about the steep learning curve and tutorial. The practical divide is clear: experienced players may value the room to refine movement, matchups, and suit-specific techniques; newcomers may find the game’s systems harder to absorb than its mode list suggests. The available review evidence supports the depth and quantity of play, but does not establish current matchmaking activity or online population.
Who should play it?

- Players who like technical arena combat: The movement, timing, coordination, and distinct suit kits reward practice.
- Players who want offline challenges or co-op: Branch Battle, Maxi Boost Missions, and local co-op provide options beyond online matches.
