mobsync.dll is a genuine Microsoft Windows DLL associated with Microsoft Synchronization Manager and the Windows Sync Center APIs. If Windows or an application reports that mobsync.dll is missing, not found, or could not be loaded, repair the Windows component or the specific application that is trying to use it rather than downloading a replacement DLL.
The safest starting point is Windows Update followed by Microsoft’s DISM and System File Checker repairs. If only one older program fails, repair or reinstall that program instead.

What is mobsync.dll?
mobsync.dll is the Microsoft Synchronization Manager implementation DLL. Microsoft documents the Synchronization Manager interfaces through its mobsync.h API documentation, including ISyncMgrSynchronize. The API dates back to Windows 2000 and is associated with Windows shell synchronization features such as Sync Center.

Microsoft’s documentation identifies Mobsync.dll as the implementing DLL for the Synchronization Manager APIs. It does not provide a current standalone mobsync.dll download for Windows 10 or Windows 11.
Version and architecture check
The commonly indexed versions below are old Windows XP-era 32-bit builds. They are useful for identifying why an old application may mention the file, but they are not universal replacements for current Windows installations.
| Reported version | Architecture | Approximate size | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|---|
5.1.2600.5512 |
32-bit | 0.2 MB | Windows XP-era build |
5.1.2600.2180 |
32-bit | 0.2 MB | Windows XP-era build |
Do not copy either version into Windows 10 or Windows 11 simply because the filename matches. A 32-bit XP DLL may have incompatible exports, dependencies, security characteristics, or system assumptions.

On a 64-bit Windows installation:
%SystemRoot%System32contains native 64-bit system files.%SystemRoot%SysWOW64supports 32-bit applications.
The names are confusing, so do not use folder names as a reason to move files manually. Let Windows repair its own components, or let the application’s official installer install its private dependencies.
Microsoft does not publish a current public manifest proving that every supported Windows 10 or Windows 11 installation must contain mobsync.dll. Therefore, the absence of the file alone is not enough to establish that Windows is damaged. First identify which executable is producing the error.
Identify when the error occurs
The timing usually separates a Windows component problem from an application installation problem.
The error appears during Windows startup
A startup entry, scheduled task, shell component, or old synchronization utility may be trying to load the DLL. Check whether the message began after:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- A Windows update
- A failed software installation or uninstall
- A cleanup utility removed files
- An antivirus action
- A disk or file-system problem
Run the Windows repair sequence in the next section, then identify the startup program if the message remains.
The error appears when opening Sync Center
This points more strongly toward a Windows component or system-image problem. Install pending updates, restart, and run DISM followed by SFC.
Only one application or game fails
The application may be incomplete, damaged, old, portable, modified, or using a private copy of the DLL. Windows itself may be healthy. Use the program’s Repair option, launcher verification feature, or official installer before changing Windows files.

The message says “The specified module could not be found”
That wording does not necessarily mean mobsync.dll itself is missing. It can mean that a dependency required by the DLL or by the calling application could not be loaded.
Fix 1: Install updates, then repair Windows
This is the safest first repair when more than one program is affected or the error concerns Sync Center or Windows startup.
Install pending Windows updates
On Windows 11:
- Open Start and select Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install all available updates.
- Restart the computer, even if Windows does not immediately require it.
- Return to Windows Update and check again.
On Windows 10:
- Open Start and select Settings.
- Open Update & Security.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart the computer.
After restarting, repeat the action that produced the error. If the message remains, continue with DISM and SFC.
Run DISM and SFC in the correct order
DISM repairs the Windows component store. SFC then uses the repaired component store to check and replace protected system files.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes if User Account Control asks for permission.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish. Do not close the window if progress appears to pause.
- When DISM completes, run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the affected program or Windows feature again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC when repairing missing or corrupted Windows components.
Recommended Free Tools
A successful result may say that SFC found no integrity violations, or that it found and repaired corrupted files. If SFC reports that it repaired files, restarting before testing is important.
If DISM cannot obtain repair files through Windows Update, Microsoft documents using a matching Windows installation source with /Source and /LimitAccess. The source must match the installed Windows edition and build closely. Do not substitute a DLL downloaded from an unrelated website.
The manual DISM and SFC process is useful, but it can be difficult to tell which component changed when the commands report only a general repair result. Outbyte PC Repair provides a free scan that shows what it identifies; the repair is performed by the full version. It is optional, and Microsoft’s built-in DISM and SFC commands remain the appropriate first-line repair for Windows components.
Review the SFC result if it did not fix the error
If SFC says it could not repair some files:
- Open Command Prompt as administrator again.
- Run:
findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%LogsCBSCBS.log > "%userprofile%Desktopsfcdetails.txt"
- Open
sfcdetails.txtfrom the desktop. - Look for entries connected with the failed repair.
- Restart and test once more if SFC did repair any files.
If DISM and SFC both complete without repairing the problem, stop repeating the same commands. Identify the executable generating the message and continue with application repair, quarantine checks, or a Windows recovery option.
Fix 2: Repair or reinstall the affected application
Use this path when Windows works normally and only one program reports mobsync.dll.
Use Windows’ built-in Repair option
Where the application supports it:
- Open Start.
- Select Settings.
- On Windows 11, select Apps, then Installed apps.
- On Windows 10, select Apps, then Apps & features.
- Find the affected program.
- Select the program’s menu or Advanced options.
- Select Repair.
- Start the application again.
The Repair option may preserve settings and user data. If it is unavailable or ineffective, use Reset only after checking the program’s documentation, because Reset can remove application data.

Reinstall from the official publisher
If the program came with its own installer or launcher:
- Close the program and its launcher.
- Uninstall it from Settings → Apps.
- Restart Windows.
- Download the installer from the application’s official publisher or sign-in client.
- Install the correct architecture for the program.
- Start the program and test again.
For games and older portable applications, use the launcher’s Verify, Repair, or Scan and repair function when available. A private copy beside the application executable may be required by that program, but do not replace it with an arbitrary copy of mobsync.dll.

If the program is very old, compatibility problems or another missing dependency may be the real cause. Try the application’s supported compatibility settings only after obtaining a clean official installation.
Fix 3: Check whether antivirus quarantined the file
Security software can remove or quarantine a file, but do not assume quarantine is the cause without checking the event.
In Windows Security:
- Open Start.
- Type Windows Security and open it.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review entries from the time the error began.
- Expand any event involving
mobsync.dllor the affected application. - Check the original file path, detection name, and action taken.
Restore a quarantined file only when all of these are clear:
- The original path was a normal Windows or application directory.
- The file was installed by a program you trust.
- The file has a valid Microsoft or application-publisher signature where applicable.
- The quarantine record is clearly associated with the current failure.
- A follow-up security scan does not identify the restored file as a threat.
Microsoft warns that restoring a real threat can expose the device. If the file came from an unofficial DLL download, do not restore or allow it merely because the filename matches.
Run a full scan if the file was unexpectedly replaced, renamed, or removed. For a serious concern, use Microsoft Defender Offline from Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Scan options. Save open work first because the computer will restart.
Fix 4: Check the file location and digital signature
If a copy of mobsync.dll exists, verify it before trusting it.
- Open File Explorer.
- Search the relevant Windows directory for
mobsync.dll. - Right-click the file and select Properties.
- Check the Digital Signatures tab if it is present.
- Select the signer and choose Details.
- Confirm that Windows reports the signature as valid.
- Open the Details tab and review the file description and version.
A normal Windows copy should be in a Windows system directory rather than an arbitrary temporary folder, download directory, or unrelated program folder. A copy beside one application executable may be a private application file, so compare its publisher and installation source before taking action.
Do not delete a suspicious file merely to make the error disappear. Record its path and scan it first. A missing system file and an unwanted replacement require different handling.

- This USB drive provides plug and play simplicity with the included 18 inch USB 3.0 cable
- The available storage capacity may vary.
Fix 5: Check 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility
Architecture mismatches are especially likely when an old application runs on a newer 64-bit Windows installation.
Signs include:
- The error affects only an older program.
- The program is 32-bit while Windows is 64-bit.
- A downloaded or copied DLL came from an XP-era package.
- The error changed after moving the program between computers.
- A file exists in one system directory but the application searches another location.
Do not copy a 32-bit XP version into %SystemRoot%System32, and do not copy files between System32 and SysWOW64 to experiment. Do not place a downloaded DLL beside the executable to suppress the message. That can create DLL hijacking and code-integrity risks while leaving the actual dependency problem unresolved.
Repair the application with its official installer. If Windows components are affected, use Windows Update, DISM, and SFC instead.
Fix 6: Update drivers only when there is a broader device problem
Driver reinstallation is not a primary repair for mobsync.dll. Consider it only if the error appeared with wider symptoms such as failing devices, a damaged Windows image, repeated system crashes, or a failed update involving hardware.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →To check drivers through Windows:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the category for the affected device.
- Right-click the device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart if Windows installs an update.
- Test the original application again.
For a recent driver regression:
- Open Device Manager.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Select Roll Back Driver if the button is available.
- Restart Windows.
Windows may not find a newer driver through Device Manager. In that case, use the hardware manufacturer’s official support channel and match the driver to the exact device and Windows architecture. Outbyte Driver Updater provides a free scan that identifies driver issues; the driver installation is performed by the full version. It is optional, and driver work will not replace an application reinstall when one specific program owns the failure.
Fix 7: Use System Restore after a recent system change
System Restore is appropriate when the error began immediately after an update, driver installation, cleanup operation, or software change and other repairs did not help.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point dated before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Confirm the restore point.
- Select Finish and allow Windows to restart.
System Restore can roll back system files, registry settings, and installed programs without removing personal files. It does not restore every personal document, so keep backups separately.
Do not use a restore point if you cannot identify a suitable date or if the problem is clearly limited to one application that can be repaired directly.
Fix 8: Reinstall the current Windows version
If DISM and SFC fail, Windows 11 may offer a repair reinstall that preserves applications, files, and settings.
- Open Settings.
- Select System.
- Select Recovery.
- Find Fix problems using Windows Update.
- Select Reinstall now if the option is available.
- Keep the computer connected to power and follow the prompts.
- Restart and test the failing feature or application.
The option is not available on every installation. If it is missing or unsuccessful, use an official Windows installation source for an in-place repair installation. Back up important data first and verify the Windows edition before proceeding.
Why regsvr32 mobsync.dll is usually wrong
regsvr32 is for registering DLLs that expose COM registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. It is not a general command for repairing every missing DLL.

Running:
regsvr32 mobsync.dll
may produce messages such as:
DllRegisterServer was not found- The module could not be found
- The specified module could not be loaded
There is no verified Microsoft instruction requiring mobsync.dll to be registered this way. Do not use regsvr32 unless a specific Microsoft or application-publisher procedure explicitly tells you to register that exact DLL.
What not to do
Do not download mobsync.dll from a random DLL archive
Unrelated DLL download sites can provide:
- Malware or tampered files
- The wrong Windows build
- The wrong 32-bit or 64-bit architecture
- A file with missing dependencies
- A version that creates further compatibility problems
A matching filename does not establish that a file is authentic. It may also hide the real problem, such as a damaged application installation or a missing dependency.
Do not copy an XP DLL into current Windows
The indexed 5.1.2600.x files are 32-bit Windows XP-era builds. They are not universal Windows 10 or Windows 11 replacements.
Do not place a replacement beside the executable
This can make Windows load an untrusted private copy and can introduce DLL hijacking risk. It also prevents Windows component repair from addressing the underlying issue.
Do not blame the registry without evidence
A missing or unloadable DLL message is not proof of a registry problem. Repair the Windows image or the owning application first.

Before escalating, answer these questions:
- Does the error affect Windows features, several programs, or only one application?
- Did it begin after an update, uninstall, cleanup, antivirus event, or disk problem?
- Is the file in a normal Windows directory or beside one application?
- Does the file have a valid Microsoft or trusted publisher signature?
- Is the failing application old, portable, modified, or 32-bit?
- Does the message say “specified module could not be found,” suggesting a dependency problem?
- Did Windows Update, DISM, and SFC complete successfully?
- Did the application’s Repair or official reinstall restore normal startup?
- Is there a suitable System Restore point?
- Do broader malware or disk symptoms require separate investigation?
FAQ
Is mobsync.dll a Microsoft file?
Yes. It is associated with Microsoft Synchronization Manager and Windows synchronization APIs. That does not mean every copy found on a computer is genuine; verify its location and digital signature.
Is mobsync.dll part of Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET?
No. It is a Windows synchronization component, not one of those redistributable runtimes.
Should I download a replacement DLL?
No. Use Windows Update, DISM, SFC, Windows recovery, or the affected application’s official installer. A random replacement can be malicious or incompatible.
Does the error prove that mobsync.dll is missing?
No. “The specified module could not be found” can refer to a dependency. The named file may exist but still fail to load.
Should I run regsvr32 mobsync.dll?
Usually not. There is no verified Microsoft instruction requiring this DLL to be registered, and regsvr32 does not repair ordinary file corruption.
Why does only one old program show the error?
That program may be damaged, using a private DLL, or incompatible with the current Windows architecture. Repair or reinstall it from the official publisher before replacing Windows files.
When should I use Windows repair instead of reinstalling the application?
Use DISM and SFC when Windows features or multiple programs are affected. Reinstall the application when one program fails while Windows otherwise works normally. If both paths fail, use System Restore or a supported Windows repair reinstall.
