For the current Cobblemon baseline, use Minecraft 1.21.1 and install the exact Modified Cobblemon Plus release through a supported launcher. The pack is versioned independently, so its own changelog—not a generic Cobblemon tutorial—determines the required loader and included files. The v11.2.0 changelog, for example, moved the pack to NeoForge 21.1.133.

The reliable setup rule is the same in every case: the client and server must use the identical pack release, Minecraft version, loader, mods, datapacks, resource files and configuration. What Modified Cobblemon Plus includes
Modified Cobblemon Plus is a ModifiedMC community pack that expands Cobblemon into a larger progression and automation experience. Its v11 changelog records a substantial quest and content system, PokéDollars as an in-game currency, Create automation additions, changes to Cobblemon progression, EMI recipe viewing and Spark performance monitoring, alongside utility mods.
Those features are release-dependent. A later pack build can add, remove or replace mods, change recipes and alter the required loader. Treat every changelog as applying only to the release named in it. Do not copy a mods folder from one version into another and assume it is compatible.

The official Cobblemon documentation recommends Fabric when performance is the priority, but that general recommendation does not override a pack release that is published for NeoForge. A modpack is a tested combination, not merely a choice of loader.
Check compatibility before installing
Spend a few minutes identifying the release before downloading anything. This prevents the most common “missing mod” and “wrong loader” failures.

- Read that release’s changelog for the Minecraft version, loader build and dependency changes.
- Confirm that you are using Minecraft Java Edition, not Bedrock Edition.
- Decide whether the same computer will run the client and a server, or whether the server will run on a separate machine or hosting provider.
- Reserve a clean launcher instance. Do not mix an existing Cobblemon installation’s mods and configuration with the new pack.
- For multiplayer, agree on one release with every player before anyone connects.
There is no published, pack-specific RAM or CPU benchmark in the documented sources. Avoid treating a generic “minimum RAM” number as a guarantee. World size, entity counts, Create machinery, quests, chunk loading and the number of players all affect the required capacity.
Install the client with a supported launcher
Modrinth App, Prism Launcher and CurseForge Launcher are the documented installation choices. Labels differ slightly between launcher versions, but the process is the same: locate the exact pack release, create a new isolated instance and launch it once before changing files.

Modrinth App
- Open the Modrinth App and sign in if the launcher requests an account.
- Choose Browse or the modpack discovery view and search for Modified Cobblemon Plus.
- Open the project page, select the required release and verify its Minecraft version and loader. Do not simply install the newest result if your server or friends are using another release.
- Click Install and allow the launcher to download the pack, loader and dependencies.
- Start the instance once. Let Minecraft reach the title screen so it can create its directories, then exit normally.
- Only after the clean first launch, edit configuration or copy server-supplied files.
Prism Launcher
- Open Prism Launcher and select Add Instance.
- Use the Modrinth or CurseForge import option, search for the pack and select the exact release.
- Review the displayed Minecraft and loader metadata before confirming.
- Launch once, wait for the title screen, and close the game cleanly.
- Use Edit on the instance only when you need to inspect or replace configuration, mods, datapacks or resource files supplied for that same release.
CurseForge Launcher
- Open the Minecraft section and search the modpack catalog for Modified Cobblemon Plus.
- Select the matching release and check the displayed Minecraft version and loader.
- Install into a new profile rather than adding files to a different modpack.
- Launch once and exit before making manual changes.
If a launcher offers several files with similar names, compare the release number, Minecraft version and loader against the changelog. A successful download does not prove that the selected file is the one your server uses.
Prepare a multiplayer server
Cobblemon’s official page states: Cobblemon does NOT have an official server.
That means there is no project-operated world that you can rely on for this pack. You must run the server yourself or obtain third-party managed Minecraft server hosting. The pack changelog also documents an in-game server browser, Discord support and a GitHub issue tracker, but those community features do not turn the pack into an official hosted service.
Self-hosting versus managed hosting

Whether you self-host or rent a service, ask for a Cobblemon-compatible server hosting setup that permits the exact Minecraft and NeoForge or Fabric build required by your release. Capacity should be chosen from observed tick performance and player activity rather than an unsupported universal RAM figure.
Server installation sequence
- Identify the release that the players will use and record its Minecraft version, loader and complete file list.
- Obtain the server distribution supplied for that exact release. A client profile is not automatically a complete server package.
- Install the server on the host machine or in the provider’s control panel according to that distribution’s instructions.
- Start it once and allow it to create its folders and world, then stop it cleanly before editing anything.
- Copy the matching configuration, mods, datapacks and resource files supplied for the release. Preserve the server distribution’s directory structure.
- Start the server again and watch the log for missing dependencies, duplicate mods or a Minecraft/loader mismatch.
- Join locally first. Confirm that Cobblemon entities, quests, recipes, currency and Create content load before opening access to friends.
- Give every player the same pack release and loader. A player with a different client build should update or remove the old profile instead of trying to connect repeatedly.
Do not overwrite a working world during an update. Stop the server, make a dated backup of the world and configuration, apply the new release to a test copy, and keep the previous files available for rollback.

Making the server reachable
For self-hosting, the owner must provide network reachability, firewall rules and a stable address or invitation method. The exact port, router interface and operating-system commands depend on the host environment, so use the instructions for that environment rather than copying a command intended for a different system. A managed provider normally exposes the connection address in its panel. In both cases, share the address only after a local connection test and keep administrative credentials private.
Fabric or NeoForge: which should you use?
Cobblemon supports both loaders, but the Modified Cobblemon Plus release decides which one is appropriate. Fabric installations require the recommended Fabric Loader and Fabric API. NeoForge installations require the recommended NeoForge version and Kotlin for Forge. Mods compiled for one loader are not interchangeable with mods compiled for the other.
Use Fabric when the pack release is published for Fabric
The Cobblemon project recommends Fabric for better performance in its general documentation. That can make Fabric attractive for a custom Cobblemon setup or a release explicitly distributed for Fabric. It is not a reason to convert a NeoForge pack by hand: removing or replacing loader-specific mods can break quests, recipes, world data and startup dependencies.
Use NeoForge when the release requires it
Modified Cobblemon Plus v11.2.0 is documented as moving to NeoForge 21.1.133. For that release, install the specified NeoForge build and its Kotlin dependency, then use the supplied server distribution. If a later changelog names a different loader or build, follow the later release’s metadata instead.

How to diagnose a loader mismatch
- A launcher refuses to start and reports that a mod requires another loader.
- The server log names a missing Fabric API, Kotlin-for-Forge dependency or incompatible Minecraft version.
- The client reaches a menu but disconnects when joining because the server and client mod lists differ.
- A mod appears in the instance folder but is ignored because it belongs to the other loader.
Fix these errors by returning to a clean instance and reinstalling the exact release. Do not satisfy one error by downloading a random newer dependency; match the versions declared by the pack.

ServerCore exposes measurable controls for saving, mob caps, spawn intervals and entity activation ranges. These are tuning tools, not guaranteed optimal settings. Begin with the pack defaults, measure behavior during the busiest period, change one value, and record what changed.
Check status before changing values
- Join as an operator or use the server console with the required permission.
- Run
/servercore statusto inspect the active ServerCore state. - Run
/mobcapsto view mob-cap information. - Repeat those checks while players are exploring, battling, breeding, loading Create machinery or visiting a crowded base.
Use the results to identify whether the problem is sustained entity ticking, excessive spawning, save pauses or a single overloaded area. A low frame rate on one client is not automatically a server-tick problem.
Autosave and spawn controls
The included ServerCore configuration documents a 300-second autosave interval when save-on is active. Autosaves protect progress but can create a visible pause on a busy world. Do not disable saving as a first response to lag; investigate the timing, keep independent backups and test any interval change on a copy.

ServerCore also exposes mob-cap and spawn-interval settings. Lowering activity may reduce ticking work, but it can change how quickly players encounter, breed or farm entities. Adjust one category at a time, observe a full play session and restore the previous value if a quest, farm or progression step behaves differently.

Activation ranges
ServerCore’s activation-range feature reduces entity ticking costs by limiting how far away entities remain fully active. The documented default activation range is 16 blocks, with category-specific ranges for raiders, water animals, villagers, zombies, creepers and other monsters.
This optimization has a gameplay cost. Mob farms, redstone-linked contraptions and technical builds can depend on entities ticking at a distance. After changing a range, test every important farm and Create system, including one that is normally unattended. If behavior changes, restore the affected category or use a larger range rather than assuming the lower value is universally better.
A safe tuning workflow
- Back up the world and copy the current ServerCore configuration.
- Record baseline observations from
/servercore status,/mobcapsand the server log during peak activity. - Change exactly one setting or one entity category.
- Restart only when the configuration requires it, then repeat the same in-game workload.
- Check quests, Cobblemon battles, breeding, mob farms, villagers and Create machines.
- Keep the change only if tick behavior improves without unacceptable gameplay effects; otherwise restore the backup value.
Troubleshoot the failures players see most often

Updating without losing a world
Read the new release changelog before updating. It may change the loader, recipes, quests, world-generation behavior or required dependencies. Announce a maintenance window, stop the server normally and make separate backups of the world, configuration, mods, datapacks and resource files.
- Duplicate the complete server directory or create a provider snapshot.
- Install the new release in a separate test directory.
- Copy the backup world into the test directory only after the new server starts successfully with a fresh world.
- Check startup logs, quests, EMI recipes, currency, Cobblemon progression and Create machines.
- Have at least one player test the updated client before replacing the live instance.
- Keep the previous release and backup until the new world has been played successfully.
Never update only the server and ask players to “try again.” A versioned pack is a coordinated client-server change.

Essential setup checklist
- Java Edition confirmed; Bedrock is unsupported.
- Minecraft version verified against the exact pack release.
- Loader and dependency versions verified from that release’s changelog.
- Clean launcher instance created through Modrinth App, Prism Launcher or CurseForge Launcher.
- First client and server launches completed before manual edits.
- Matching mods, configuration, datapacks and resource files installed on both sides.
- World backup created before configuration changes and every update.
- Self-host networking or managed-host connection tested privately.
- ServerCore status and mob caps observed before performance tuning.
- One performance setting changed at a time, with farms and automation retested afterward.
With those controls in place, Modified Cobblemon Plus is straightforward to operate: install the release its changelog specifies, keep every participant on the same files, and treat performance tuning as measured maintenance rather than a collection of universal “best” values.
