A January 2026 report described better PC performance in Monster Hunter Wilds when the game was made to behave as if cosmetic DLC was owned. That is not evidence players need to buy DLC: the reported comparison involved simulated ownership, and the gains were limited, variable, and not confirmed as a dependable fix for every PC.
What the reported performance quirk involves
GamesRadar’s Scott McCrae reported on January 16, 2026, that a Reddit user noticed a performance difference when comparing accounts with different cosmetic DLC ownership. The user then modified their own game to simulate owning the DLC, without unlocking it, and reported improved performance. The claim is about how the PC game behaved around DLC ownership checks—not about the performance benefits of purchasing and using cosmetic items.
GamesRadar also reported that Digital Foundry and Rock Paper Shotgun tested the effect and saw frame-rate gains in multiple situations and across different GPUs. This is secondary reporting of user and outlet tests, not an official explanation from Capcom. The report does not provide a standardized benchmark table or enough consistent test details to predict results for a particular PC.
How large were the reported gains?
GamesRadar characterized some reported gains as “upwards of 10%.” That is an upper-end observation in some circumstances, not a universal benchmark, expected improvement, or guaranteed result. The report describes variation by situation and GPU, so a figure from one test should not be applied to every scene or system.

The same report cautioned that the change was not a night-and-day fix: it did not double frame rates or resolve all of the game’s processing problems. A reported improvement in some tests does not establish that the game will run smoothly afterward.
Should you buy DLC to improve performance?
No. The reported user simulated DLC ownership without unlocking the content, and the evidence does not show that buying DLC is necessary or a reliable performance fix. It also does not establish that paying for cosmetic DLC will produce the same result on your PC.

GamesRadar’s account is an interesting report about a possible relationship between DLC ownership checks and performance, but it is not a purchase recommendation or an official Capcom fix. Read the GamesRadar report for its description of the user’s comparison and the additional outlet tests.

The report is dated January 16, 2026. It does not establish whether Capcom subsequently changed the game, confirmed the mechanism, or issued a fix. It should not be read as proof of the game’s current performance or update status in October 2026.
