How to unlock Fishing for Flavor
Speak with Kanya at the Scarlet Forest base camp after progressing through her fishing quests and reaching the Chapter 4 story milestone. Gamer Guides lists completion of Fishing: Life, In Microcosm and story mission 4-1, New Ecosystems, as requirements. Quest-chain references also place Seeking the Golden Fish immediately before this quest. If Kanya does not offer it, finish the preceding fishing tasks and story mission, then check with her again. Where to find a Gravid Bowfin
Start at the Oasis in Windward Plains Area 13, near the Area 13 camps. It is a recommended, convenient search spot—not the fish’s only reported habitat. If no Gravid Bowfin is visible, try other listed habitats rather than treating the Oasis as an exclusive spawn. The available guides do not establish comparative spawn rates. Icy Veins lists additional fish habitats.
How to catch it
- Travel to the Area 13 Oasis in the Windward Plains.
- If possible, search during Plenty weather at dawn or dusk; these are guide recommendations, not confirmed requirements. The guide author reports better personal luck at dusk, but no measured advantage is established.
- Equip the fishing rod and use Emerald Jitterbait, the recommended bait.
- Look for a large reddish-orange fish and catch it. If the target does not appear, leave the map and return to refresh the fish.

Turn in the catch and collect rewards
Return to Kanya in the Scarlet Forest and report the Gravid Bowfin to complete the quest. Gamer Guides lists the rewards as 3 Jeweled Mullet Roe, 5 Honey, and 100 Guild Points. Kiranico independently lists the two item rewards: 3 Jeweled Mullet Roe and 5 Honey. The quest objective is also recorded there: “Kanya has asked you to catch a Gravid Bowfin, known for its highly nutritious eggs. Catching a fish for this masterful fisherfellow could be a great way to show your appreciation!”
