Monster Hunter HQ recommends Thunder or Paralysis weapons and ammunition, but that is guide advice rather than a verified numerical weakness ranking. You do not need to change weapons to fight Balahara: PlayStation lists 14 weapon types in Monster Hunter Wilds, so use the weapon you know and adapt your timing to its openings.

How do I beat Balahara?
Attack after it expels mucus
Balahara is a desert-dwelling Leviathan that makes quicksand traps with its serpentine body, according to PlayStation’s monster overview. Watch its mouth: Kiranico’s Balahara entry identifies the mouth interior as a soft target immediately after it expels mucus. Treat that brief moment as an attack opening rather than rushing into its mouth attacks.
Use Focus Mode to track exposed wounds and weak points, then direct your attacks at them. PlayStation describes Focus Mode as highlighting wounds and exposed weak points, while Focus Strikes deal extra damage to them. This gives you a way to turn a safe opening into focused damage without depending on a particular weapon.

Choose a target you can reach
Monster Hunter HQ advises melee hunters to prioritize the tail and notes that ranged hunters may find the mouth easier to reach. That is a practical distinction in reach, not a universal damage ranking. For either style, prioritize an opening you can attack safely; Kiranico specifically identifies the mouth after the mucus attack as a soft target.
How do I handle Balahara’s burrowing and quicksand?
Use an item while it is submerged
Kiranico reports that sonic bombs or screamer pods are highly effective while Balahara is submerged. Baunos can provide them, according to the same entry. The timing matters: use one when Balahara is underground rather than treating it as a general-purpose attack.
