Monster Hunter Wilds requires 16GB of RAM, an SSD, 75GB of available storage, and a GTX 1660 6GB or RX 5500 XT 8GB at minimum. The recommended graphics tier is an RTX 2060 Super 8GB or Radeon RX 6600 8GB. Steam’s recommended 1080p/60fps target assumes Frame Generation on the Medium preset, while the optional High Resolution Texture Pack has a separate 16GB-VRAM requirement.
Monster Hunter Wilds needs a modern gaming PC, but its official baseline is more practical than the recommended headline suggests. The minimum specification calls for 16GB of RAM, a GTX 1660 6GB or Radeon RX 5500 XT 8GB, an SSD, and 75GB of available storage. The recommended tier keeps the same 16GB memory and listed CPUs but upgrades the graphics card to an RTX 2060 Super 8GB or Radeon RX 6600 8GB.

There is an important qualification: Steam describes the minimum target as 1080p output upscaled from a 720p internal resolution at 30fps on the Lowest preset. The recommended target is 1080p at 60fps on Medium with Frame Generation enabled. That is not the same as a guarantee of native 1080p rendering at 60fps.

What hardware matters most?
Graphics card: the main difference between the tiers
The GPU is the only major component that changes between the official minimum and recommended specifications. The minimum tier is a GTX 1660 with 6GB of VRAM or an RX 5500 XT with 8GB. For the recommended tier, Capcom and Steam list an RTX 2060 Super with 8GB or an RX 6600 with 8GB.
Do not interpret DirectX 12 support alone as proof that a graphics card will run the game well. Capcom warns that PCs below the minimum specification may produce poor frame rates or may not run the game at all. The official requirements are therefore a meaningful floor, not merely a suggestion that any DX12-compatible card will be sufficient.
The recommended 60fps description also includes Frame Generation. Players should not treat it as a conventional native-rendering 1080p/60fps guarantee. Frame Generation can increase the displayed frame rate, but the underlying rendered image and latency characteristics are separate considerations.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Processor: three CPUs are listed for both tiers
Monster Hunter Wilds lists the Intel Core i5-10400, Intel Core i3-12100, and AMD Ryzen 5 3600 for both minimum and recommended configurations. The published table does not specify a faster CPU for the recommended tier.
That does not mean every processor with a similar name will perform identically. CPU age, cooling, background applications, and the rest of the system can affect stability. However, there is no basis in the official requirements for claiming that a higher-end processor is mandatory for the recommended configuration.
16GB of RAM is enough according to the official listing
Both tiers specify 16GB of system memory. 32GB is not an official requirement. It can be a sensible optional upgrade for players who keep browsers, launchers, recording software, or other demanding applications open while gaming, but it should be viewed as extra headroom rather than a prerequisite.
An SSD is mandatory
The Steam listing explicitly marks an SSD as required and specifies 75GB of available space. A hard disk drive does not satisfy the published drive requirement.
The 75GB figure is the listed capacity, not necessarily the amount of free space you should leave on the drive. Windows, updates, shader data, and other games also need room, so a 1TB NVMe SSD is a practical storage choice for a new installation or upgrade. That is buying guidance, not an additional official Monster Hunter Wilds requirement; check your motherboard’s M.2 compatibility and available expansion slots before choosing an NVMe drive.
The listing also notes DirectStorage support. DirectStorage-compatible storage and a current Windows installation are particularly relevant to a game that explicitly requires an SSD.

What about the High Resolution Texture Pack?
The optional High Resolution Texture Pack is not required for the base game. Capcom’s guidance says the pack requires at least 16GB of graphics memory to install and warns that insufficient VRAM can cause instability while it is installed.
The optional Steam DLC listing also shows a 16GB-VRAM graphics tier. This requirement must be kept separate from the base game’s recommended 8GB-VRAM specification. An 8GB graphics card can meet the published recommended tier for the game itself, but it should not automatically be described as suitable for the high-resolution texture pack.

A 16GB-VRAM card is not mandatory for every PC player, and purchasing one solely because the base game lists an 8GB recommended GPU would overstate the requirement.
Can your PC run Monster Hunter Wilds?
- Check Windows: You need 64-bit Windows 10 or 64-bit Windows 11.
- Check the CPU: Compare your processor with the listed Core i5-10400, Core i3-12100, or Ryzen 5 3600.
- Check memory: Confirm that the system has at least 16GB of RAM.
- Check the GPU model and VRAM: The minimum listed cards are the GTX 1660 6GB and RX 5500 XT 8GB. The recommended cards are the RTX 2060 Super 8GB and RX 6600 8GB.
- Check the drive: The game requires an SSD and 75GB of available space.
- Check your target: A system that only meets minimum specifications is aimed at 30fps using Lowest settings and a 720p internal resolution upscaled to 1080p. The recommended description uses Medium settings, 1080p, 60fps, and Frame Generation.
If your graphics card falls below the published minimum, do not assume the game will be acceptable because the rest of the PC is powerful. Capcom specifically says below-minimum systems may run poorly or may not run.
What should you upgrade first?
Upgrade the GPU when you miss the graphics target
If your CPU and RAM meet the requirements but your graphics card is below the minimum tier, the GPU is the clearest upgrade priority. For the official recommended class, look for hardware at or above the RTX 2060 Super 8GB or RX 6600 8GB level, while remembering that any replacement must fit your case, use compatible power connectors, and be supported by your power supply.
Do not buy a graphics card based only on VRAM. The listed GPU model, rendering performance, driver support, power requirements, and system balance all matter. A 16GB card is relevant to the optional texture pack, not automatically to the base game.
Upgrade the drive if you are using a hard disk
An SSD is not an optional quality-of-life upgrade in this case: it is part of both official configurations. If your PC has no suitable SSD, storage is the first requirement to address. Leave more than the listed 75GB free so that the operating system and future updates are not competing for every remaining gigabyte.
Upgrade RAM only when your use case justifies it
Move from 16GB to 32GB if you regularly multitask, record gameplay, stream, or run other memory-heavy software. Do not present that upgrade as necessary simply because a newer gaming PC may commonly ship with 32GB.
Consider a complete gaming PC when several parts are below minimum
If the computer needs a GPU, SSD, memory, and possibly a platform upgrade, replacing several components individually may be less practical than buying a complete system. A suitable prebuilt or custom PC should meet every part of the recommended table—not just advertise a modern graphics card—and should include 16GB of RAM, a supported 64-bit Windows installation, an SSD with adequate free capacity, and a compatible CPU.

Monster Hunter Wilds PC troubleshooting checklist
Capcom’s official troubleshooting guidance recommends the following order. These steps can correct configuration and software problems, but they cannot turn below-minimum hardware into officially supported hardware.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Confirm the specifications. Check the CPU, GPU, VRAM, RAM, operating system, SSD, and free storage against the official table.
- Lower the graphics settings. If the PC meets minimum but not recommended specifications, reduce the in-game preset and individual settings.
- Update the graphics driver and Windows. Use the current driver supplied for your GPU and install available Windows updates.
- Try a clean graphics-driver installation. If a normal driver update does not resolve crashes or rendering problems, reinstall the driver cleanly.
- Verify the game files through Steam. This can repair missing or corrupted installation files.
- Check antivirus and firewall exclusions. If the game will not launch, make sure security software is not blocking the game or its required services.
- Try administrator privileges only as a diagnostic step. Run Steam or the game as administrator if Capcom’s troubleshooting path calls for it, rather than treating this as a permanent performance fix.
- Lower the preset again if frame rates remain unstable. A PC may satisfy the minimum list but still require settings below the recommended Medium target.
- Remove or disable the High Resolution Texture Pack when VRAM is insufficient. The pack can cause instability if the graphics card does not have the required 16GB of graphics memory.
Release and platform date
Capcom announced Monster Hunter Wilds for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with a February 28, 2025 release date in its September 25, 2024 announcement. The Steam store displays February 27, 2025 for the PC release. Those dates can reflect platform or regional presentation differences, so the Steam date is the relevant listing for PC buyers rather than evidence of contradictory PC requirements.
Bottom line
For the base PC game, plan around 16GB of RAM, a GTX 1660 6GB or RX 5500 XT 8GB at minimum, an RTX 2060 Super 8GB or RX 6600 8GB for the listed recommended tier, a supported 64-bit Windows installation, an SSD, and 75GB of available storage. The minimum target is 30fps at Lowest with a 720p internal resolution upscaled to 1080p. The recommended 60fps target uses Medium settings and Frame Generation.
The optional High Resolution Texture Pack is a separate case: Capcom requires at least 16GB of graphics memory for that pack. It is not a 16GB-VRAM requirement for the base game.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Monster Hunter Wilds require 32GB of RAM?
No. The official Steam listing specifies 16GB of RAM for both minimum and recommended configurations. 32GB can provide extra headroom for multitasking, recording, streaming, or background applications, but it is not required by the published specification.

Does Monster Hunter Wilds require a 16GB VRAM graphics card?
No. The base game’s recommended graphics cards have 8GB of VRAM. Capcom’s 16GB graphics-memory requirement applies to installing the optional High Resolution Texture Pack, not to the base game.
Does Monster Hunter Wilds require an SSD?
Yes. The official Steam requirements mark an SSD as required and list 75GB of available storage. Leaving additional space for Windows, updates, and other data is practical, but the extra headroom is not a separate official requirement.
What performance does the recommended PC specification target?
The minimum target is 1080p output upscaled from a 720p internal resolution at 30fps on the Lowest preset. The recommended target is 1080p at 60fps on Medium with Frame Generation enabled, so it should not be described as a native-rendering 1080p/60fps guarantee.
The Bottom Line
Monster Hunter Wilds requires 16GB of RAM, an SSD, 75GB of available space, and at least a GTX 1660 6GB or RX 5500 XT 8GB. The recommended GPU tier is an RTX 2060 Super 8GB or RX 6600 8GB, but Steam’s 1080p/60fps recommendation assumes Frame Generation. The optional High Resolution Texture Pack separately requires at least 16GB of VRAM.
