Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault has a strong hook: fight through dangerous dimensions, make choices about what fits in your pack, then sell what you bring home to fund better gear and a growing village. A PC Early Access review praised the loot-and-inventory puzzles but questioned how well the shop phase connected to the rest of the loop. That review is useful context, not a verdict on the finished game: Version 1.0 launched on September 2, 2026, with a completed main story and additional content.
What is Moonlighter 2?
Developed by Digital Sun and published by 11 bit studios, Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault is a single-player action RPG with roguelike elements. Will leads a double life: he explores dangerous dimensions, fights enemies and collects relics, then returns to his shop to sell his haul. The money supports new equipment and investment in the village of Tresna.

The appeal rests on how those activities feed one another. A dungeon run is not just about winning fights: pack space is limited, relics can affect nearby items, and what survives the trip home becomes stock to sell. Shop earnings, in turn, help Will progress. The question at the heart of the Early Access review was whether all three parts—combat and exploration, inventory choices, and selling—felt equally meaningful.
What the Early Access review praised
GamesRadar’s review of the PC Early Access build singled out inventory management as one of the game’s most compelling features. Relics can interact with neighboring loot: some destroy items, while others become more valuable when that happens. That turns the backpack into a puzzle to solve between fights, with decisions that can shape the value of a run.

The review also described a shift from the original game’s top-down pixel art to an isometric 3D presentation, which it said gave some battles more tactical breadth. Its account of the Early Access build follows Will’s combat progression from a broom to weapons such as a shortsword and Blob Gun. Encounter bonuses could change a build, and a locket let Will teleport home to protect the gear he had collected. These are observations about the reviewed build, not a guarantee that every detail or balance point is unchanged in 1.0.
Why the review questioned the shop loop
The reviewer’s main concern was not that the core loop lacked appeal, but that the connection between dungeon decisions and shop rewards felt less convincing in the Early Access build. The shop minigame had changed from individually upselling transactions to a perk-based system that triggered only every few sales. The review argued that these perks might not relate closely enough to the items in the player’s bag.

It also contrasted a demo objective of earning 5,000 gold in a day with a cumulative 10,000-gold progression breakpoint in the Early Access build. In the reviewer’s view, the demo goal made players use all three pillars more directly: venture out, bring back goods, and sell effectively. The concern was that the later breakpoint weakened that exchange between systems.

That line is Ali Jones’s conclusion in GamesRadar’s review. The review disclosed that it covered a PC Early Access build played with a code provided by the publisher. It should be read as a critique of that version, not evidence that the finished release retains the same weakness.
What changed with Version 1.0?
Moonlighter 2 left Early Access and launched Version 1.0 on September 2, 2026. The publisher says the full release completes Will’s main story with new quests, cutscenes and discoveries, and adds equipment, challenges, more shop customization and a postgame adventure. The announcement also lists new vendors, cosmetics, Codex pages, and additional quests and cutscenes. Those are publisher-described additions; they do not establish how long the game takes to finish or how well the new content plays.

The launch means the Early Access review cannot answer the most important follow-up question: whether 1.0 improved the shop’s relationship to dungeon loot and progression. No independent final-version review or platform performance comparison is established here, so the fairest conclusion is that the earlier critique identifies a specific point to look for—not a confirmed flaw in the finished game.

The official 1.0 announcement lists PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. Steam lists November 19, 2025 as the PC Early Access date and September 2, 2026 as the full-release date. The PlayStation Store also lists a PS5 edition with a September 2, 2026 release date.

Physical editions are a separate, later release. Silver Lining Interactive has announced a standard boxed edition and a Collector’s Edition for November 13, 2026. The Collector’s Edition is described as including physical extras such as art cards, patches, a poster, stickers and a metal coin, alongside a digital artbook. The announcement does not establish price, territory, stock or retailer availability. Steam’s Zen Patio Pack, Original Artbook and Official Soundtrack are digital add-ons, not evidence of boxed contents.
Is Moonlighter 2 worth playing?
If the idea of turning dungeon loot into a shop business appeals to you, the Early Access review points to a distinctive strength: inventory decisions can matter beyond simply choosing which items to keep. Its reservations are equally specific—the reviewer felt the shop perks and progression breakpoint did not tie the game’s systems together as tightly as they could.
For the full release, treat those reservations as questions to investigate rather than settled facts. The 1.0 launch adds the conclusion to Will’s story and more activities, but the available evidence does not confirm whether it resolved the shop-loop concern. Steam’s user-review figures offer one dated snapshot, not a critic verdict: on October 8, 2026, Steam showed 69% positive recent reviews from 775 reviews in the prior 30 days, and 82% positive English-language reviews from 1,665 reviews. Both figures can change over time.
When weighing it against another action roguelike or shop-management game, focus on whether you enjoy its combat, whether packing relics creates worthwhile tradeoffs, and whether selling feels like a meaningful consequence of the run. Story and progression, plus the platform and edition you want, are also useful points of comparison; the Early Access review alone cannot settle the finished game’s balance or quality.
