What kind of game is Moonlighter?
Digital Sun developed Moonlighter, published by 11 bit studios. Steam lists its release date as May 29, 2018. It combines top-down action-RPG combat and dungeon exploration with shop management: Will gathers relics underground, brings them back to town, and sells them to fund improvements to his shop and equipment. Steam’s game listing identifies the PC edition and its available content.

Nintendo Life summed up the crossover’s appeal in its Switch review: “If you want to play a top-down Legend of Zelda game as a rogue-lite while also taking shifts as a shopkeeper then, hey, Moonlighter is about to scratch a distinctive itch for you.” That is a reviewer’s comparison, not a claim that the game is part of the Legend of Zelda series.
Is Moonlighter worth playing?
You may enjoy it if…
- You like action-RPG dungeon runs and want a progression loop that also involves selling your discoveries.
- You find it satisfying to manage a shop and decide how to turn collected loot into resources for further progress.
- You are interested in a game whose hook comes from combining combat and commerce rather than focusing on only one of them.
You may want to skip it if…
- You lose interest when progression depends on repeating runs or grinding.
- You want consistently fresh dungeon experiences; Nintendo Wire’s review says the dungeons can become stale.
- You need a substantial story to carry the experience; Nintendo Wire describes the story as light.
In short, Moonlighter is a more compelling fit for players drawn to its repeating dungeon-and-shop cycle than for those seeking a story-led adventure or a game with little repetition.

Is Moonlighter good on Switch?
Nintendo Life’s Switch review awarded it 8/10 and described its central combination as a distinctive itch, while warning that some players may find the mechanics grindy. Nintendo Wire also praised the combat progression and the fight-sell-buy loop, but criticized the light story and dungeons that become stale. Those reviews suggest the Switch version is worth considering if the core loop appeals to you; they do not establish that every platform plays identically.
Can you buy a physical Switch copy?
Yes. Nintendo UK lists a Switch game card as well as a download version. Its UK catalog gives November 9, 2018 for the game card and November 5, 2018 for the download. Nintendo Canada also lists the game and gives November 5, 2018 and a 1.9 GB file size. These are region-specific catalog details, not a guarantee of current stock or availability.

Nintendo Canada lists Moonlighter: Between Dimensions as Switch DLC. On Steam, the Complete Edition includes the base game and the expansion. Check the store for your platform and region to confirm the edition’s contents before purchase; a listing for one platform does not mean the same bundle is available everywhere.
