If Mortal Kombat 1 keeps crashing on PS5, WB Games’ game-specific recommendation is to delete and reinstall it. If that does not help, work through the relevant PlayStation checks below. These are official troubleshooting steps—not ten independently proven fixes—and the cause can differ between a game that will not launch and one that crashes during play.
Start with the game-specific fix
1. Delete and reinstall Mortal Kombat 1
WB Games recommends reinstalling when the game crashes on a console, noting that a crash can indicate an installation problem. On PS5, highlight Mortal Kombat 1 in the Games Hub, press the Options button, and select Delete. Then reinstall it using the route for your copy:

- Physical copy: Reinsert the disc and let the game install.
- Digital copy: Download the game again from your Game Library.
Follow WB Games’ PS5 crash instructions. Reinstalling is a recommendation, not a guarantee that every crash has the same cause.

Try PlayStation’s general game-launch checks
PlayStation’s steps are aimed at game launch problems generally. They can be useful when MK1 will not start or crashes around launch, but they do not identify a specific Mortal Kombat 1 defect. Try the applicable checks rather than assuming every one addresses a mid-match crash.

2. Restart the PS5
Restart the console, then launch the game again. This is a low-risk first console check in PlayStation’s game-launch troubleshooting guide.
3. Move the game off USB extended storage, if applicable
If Mortal Kombat 1 is installed on a USB extended storage device, move it to the PS5’s internal storage and try again. This instruction specifically concerns USB extended storage; do not apply it to an internal M.2 drive.

- PS Remote Play requires Remote Play App connected to Wi-Fi, PS4 or PS5 console with the latest system software and compatible game. A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
4. Restore licenses
Use the PS5’s restore-licenses option if a license or ownership check may be involved. PlayStation includes this in its launch troubleshooting, but it is an access-related check—not a universal fix for crashes during gameplay.

6. Check the game update, then redownload over a wired connection if needed
Check that Mortal Kombat 1 is up to date. If you delete and redownload it, PlayStation suggests using a wired internet connection if possible. Treat the wired connection as an optional download troubleshooting measure, not a general crash cure.
7. Clear the cache or rebuild the database in Safe Mode
PlayStation’s general guidance includes Clear Cache and Rebuild Database in Safe Mode. Follow the current official Safe Mode instructions carefully. These options are general console troubleshooting tools; they do not diagnose or specifically repair an MK1 problem. For the cited game-start error CE-109573-5, PlayStation’s error-code guidance says to select Rebuild Database and, if the issue continues, update system software. That advice is specific to the cited error and should not be treated as the explanation for other crashes.

- Ultra Customizable Controls
- Mappable Back Buttons
- DualSense Wireless Controller Features Built In
- Replaceable Stick Modules and Caps
8. Check account and access settings if the game appears locked
If the problem is that MK1 appears locked or will not launch because of access, check that you are using the account that purchased it. Where relevant, check subscription status and Console Sharing and Offline Play, review PlayStation service status, and restore licenses. These checks address access and launch issues; they do not establish the cause of a crash after gameplay has begun.
If the crash continues
9. Report a reproducible issue to WB Games
If reinstalling does not resolve a game-specific problem, WB Games directs players to its Mortal Kombat 1 support and bug-reporting resources. Describe what happened and include the steps that reliably reproduce the crash. PlayStation also recommends giving support a detailed description and reproduction steps.

10. Contact PlayStation Support for persistent console or launch problems
If the publisher’s reinstall recommendation and relevant PlayStation checks do not help, use PlayStation Support’s game-launch guidance to escalate. Do not assume that a factory reset or hardware replacement is necessary. If official support directs you to reinstall system software, consult its current instructions first and back up data before taking any destructive step.
What the symptoms can—and cannot—tell you
A game that appears locked or fails an ownership check points toward account or license access checks; a game installed on USB extended storage makes PlayStation’s storage step relevant. A crash after gameplay begins is a different symptom, but these official instructions do not establish a particular cause for it. The available support guidance gives no crash prevalence, success rate, or single explanation that applies to every player.
