The announcement singled out WaveNet Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 as a preservation highlight. It said the arcade edition was developed for Midway’s WaveNet online matchmaking service and had not been playable anywhere since 1997. The release also described it as the only arcade release with Noob Saibot selectable, and said Digital Eclipse had emulated and preserved the version for the collection. Those are claims made in the Gamescom announcement.

What changed between the early tease and the final lineup?
Digital Eclipse’s June 4, 2025 PlayStation Blog post presented an initial list and indicated that more games were still to come. Gamescom supplied the final announced roster, including Mythologies: Sub-Zero and Special Forces, which the release said had been unavailable for decades. Chris Kohler, Digital Eclipse Editorial Director, wrote in the earlier post: “At Digital Eclipse, we specialize in restoring historic games for modern consoles, giving legendary classics the respect they deserve.” The post also outlined the planned documentary materials and interviews, including conversations with series co-creators Ed Boon and John Tobias. Those materials were described in the PlayStation Blog announcement.
What features and documentary content were announced?
The Gamescom release named Rewind, on-screen move lists, Trainer mode and a Fatality Trainer. It also said Mortal Kombat Trilogy had been optimized with reduced load times. These are announced features, not performance results from independent testing.

It specifies CRT and LCD filters, aspect-ratio options and an optional enhanced rendering mode for Mortal Kombat 4. The FAQ says the content is the same across supported platforms.
