“motionedit.dll” errors on Windows
You may see “The program can’t start because motionedit.dll is missing from your computer” or “The code execution cannot proceed because motionedit.dll was not found.” motionedit.dll can also produce messages saying that a specified module could not be found, that loading failed, or that the file is not designed to run on Windows.
The 60-second answer
motionedit.dll is not a Windows system DLL. It is an old, application-local 32-bit component most strongly associated with Wondershare DVD Slideshow Builder Standard and Deluxe.
The safest fix is to repair or reinstall the DVD Slideshow Builder installation from its original media or Wondershare’s official installer. Do not download a random copy, place it in C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64, or run regsvr32 as a first step.
Back up your slideshow projects before uninstalling anything.

What is motionedit.dll?
Publicly cataloged binary metadata describes the file as Custom Motion Edit, with tjk listed as the company or internal developer. Catalogs also report version 1.0.0.1, 32-bit architecture, and an approximate size of 102.4 KB. Treat those values as catalog observations rather than a current vendor specification.
The strongest application connection is to older versions of Wondershare DVD Slideshow Builder Standard and Deluxe. Inventories for those programs list MotionEdit.dll alongside files such as DSB.exe, MotionEffect.dll, and MotionMgr.dll. The exact DVD Slideshow Builder build that originally installed your copy is not established.
The file supports the application’s slideshow editing features, including custom motion effects. It is not supplied as a normal Windows component, and there is no reliable evidence that it belongs to Visual C++, .NET, DirectX, or any Windows installation.
Windows normally searches the application’s executable directory before system directories. That is why an application-private DLL generally belongs beside the program that loads it, not in a global Windows folder. A 32-bit application also requires compatible 32-bit components.

Confirm which application owns the file
Before changing Windows files, identify the program requesting the DLL.
- Note the application name shown in the error window.
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps in Windows 11, or Start > Settings > Apps > Apps & features in Windows 10.
- Search for Wondershare DVD Slideshow Builder, including both Standard and Deluxe entries.
- If the program appears, select it and check whether its installation or repair options are available.
- In File Explorer, locate the application folder and search for
motionedit.dll. - Right-click the file, choose Properties, and inspect its location and available version details.
A copy inside the DVD Slideshow Builder directory is more credible than a copy in Downloads, a temporary folder, or a random DLL directory. If the file exists but the application still fails, do not assume it is usable. It may be corrupted, incompatible, or dependent on another missing DLL.

Windows 11
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the Wondershare DVD Slideshow Builder entry.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
- Start the slideshow program again.
Windows 10
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Apps & features.
- Select the Wondershare DVD Slideshow Builder entry.
- Choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair, if the option is present.
- Restart the application.
Not every traditional desktop installer exposes the Windows Repair option. If it is missing, use the older Control Panel interface:
- Press the Windows key and type Control Panel.
- Open Programs > Programs and Features.
- Right-click Wondershare DVD Slideshow Builder.
- Choose Repair or Change, if offered.
- Follow the installer prompts and restart Windows.
A successful repair should restore the application’s own files without requiring a DLL in a Windows system directory. If the error remains unchanged, continue with a clean reinstall.
Fix 2: Reinstall the complete application
Use the same edition that originally owned the program. Do not mix Standard and Deluxe files, because matching executables and companion DLLs matter.
- Copy your slideshow projects, media, presets, and custom templates to a separate folder.
- Close DVD Slideshow Builder and any Wondershare process in Task Manager.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps on Windows 11, or Settings > Apps > Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Select DVD Slideshow Builder and choose Uninstall.
- If Windows does not list it, open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features, right-click the program, and choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall from your original installation media or the vendor’s official Wondershare installer.
- Start the program before copying old files back into its installation directory.
- Restore your projects only after confirming that the application opens.
If reinstalling restores the program, the original problem was likely a missing, damaged, incomplete, or incompatible application file. If the installer itself fails, run it by right-clicking the installer and choosing Run as administrator. Do not permanently run the application as administrator unless necessary.
Fix 3: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software may remove or quarantine an old executable component. Check before downloading anything.
- Open Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Windows Security on Windows 11. On Windows 10, open Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Look for a detection involving
motionedit.dll, DVD Slideshow Builder, or its installation directory. - Check the recorded path and detection details.
Restore the file only when its path, origin, and signature or hash can be verified as belonging to the original application. If the file came from an unknown download, leave it quarantined. Scan the computer and reinstall the application from trusted original media instead.
A clean reinstall is preferable to restoring an unverified file. No public evidence establishes that every copy carrying this filename is safe, digitally signed, or current.
Fix 4: Install Microsoft runtimes only when named
Do not install Visual C++ or DirectX packages merely because motionedit.dll is missing. Those packages do not recreate a Wondershare application DLL.
Use a runtime repair only when the error separately names a Microsoft runtime file.

Visual C++
If the message names a file such as a Visual C++ runtime DLL:
- Use Microsoft’s Latest Supported Visual C++ Redistributable documentation.
- Choose the x86 package for this old 32-bit application.
- Run
vc_redist.x86.exe. - Choose Repair if the installer offers it, or install the package.
- Restart Windows and test DVD Slideshow Builder.
The x64 package is for 64-bit processes. Installing x64 alone does not supply the runtime needed by a 32-bit application.

If the error separately names a legacy DirectX file such as d3dx9_30.dll:
- Download Microsoft’s DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer.
- Run
dxwebsetup.exe. - Follow the installation prompts.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
This package supplies legacy side-by-side DirectX SDK libraries. It does not replace the core DirectX version installed in Windows.
Fix 5: Update Windows, then check broader corruption
Windows Update is useful system maintenance, but it is not a direct source for motionedit.dll.
Windows 11
- Open Start > Settings > Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart Windows.
Windows 10
- Open Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart Windows.
Use DISM and SFC when other Windows components are also failing, Windows servicing is damaged, or automatic repair is clearly needed. Open Command Prompt as administrator and run these commands in order:

sfc /scannow
Wait for each command to finish. DISM repairs the Windows image, while SFC checks protected Windows files. Neither command is a reliable way to recreate a third-party Wondershare DLL. If both commands complete successfully but the application still reports motionedit.dll, return to the application repair or reinstall.

Fix 6: Check architecture and application paths
The publicly cataloged motionedit.dll is reported as 32-bit, although those catalog details are not a current vendor specification.
A 32-bit application can run on 64-bit Windows through Windows compatibility support, but it still needs a compatible 32-bit DLL. A 64-bit DLL with the same filename will not solve the problem. A random replacement may also have different exported functions or dependencies.

If the failure began after moving the program folder:
- Move it back to its original installation location, if that location is known.
- Check the shortcut’s Target under Properties.
- Make sure the target points to the actual DVD Slideshow Builder executable.
- If the original location cannot be restored, uninstall and reinstall the application.
If motionedit.dll exists in the correct folder but Windows says it cannot load it, the problem may be a missing dependent DLL, a damaged file, or an incompatible build. Reinstall the complete program instead of replacing individual files.
Fix 7: Update drivers only for broader graphics problems
A display-driver problem is not the leading explanation for a missing application DLL. Consider driver maintenance only if DVD Slideshow Builder also crashes during previews, shows rendering errors, or other programs have graphics failures.
- Right-click Start and open Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the graphics device.
- Choose Update driver.
- Select Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
For a clean vendor-supported driver update, identify the graphics manufacturer and use its official support channel. Do not replace motionedit.dll with a graphics driver file.
Finding the correct driver manually can mean checking hardware IDs, Windows versions, and 32-bit application compatibility. Why System32 copying and regsvr32 are usually wrong
Do not copy motionedit.dll into:
C:WindowsSystem32C:WindowsSysWOW64- The main Windows directory
Those folders are not general storage for application DLLs. Global copying can create version conflicts and DLL-preloading risks, while the application may continue searching its own installation directory.
regsvr32 is also not a normal repair step. Microsoft documents it for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. There is no public evidence that this private slideshow component is a COM or ActiveX server. If you run:
regsvr32 motionedit.dll
you may simply receive an error saying that the entry point is missing. Repair or reinstall the owning application instead.

- Open Task Manager with
Ctrl+Shift+Esc. - Select Startup apps.
- Look for a clearly identified Wondershare or DSB entry.
- Disable only the entry that belongs to the removed program.
- Open Task Scheduler from the Start menu.
- Review Task Scheduler Library for a confirmed Wondershare or DSB task.
- Disable or remove only that confirmed stale entry.
Do not delete unrelated tasks based only on a similar filename. If the program is no longer needed, uninstalling it and removing its confirmed leftover startup entry is safer than installing motionedit.dll globally.
When System Restore is appropriate
Use System Restore only when the error began after a known software change and a suitable restore point exists.

Back up important projects first. System Restore may remove recently installed applications or drivers, but it is not guaranteed to restore a private application DLL.
