mprddm.dll is a genuine Microsoft Windows file named Demand Dial Manager Supervisor. If mprddm.dll is missing, was not found, or could not be loaded, repair Windows and the affected networking component instead of downloading a replacement DLL.

The file belongs to Windows networking functionality associated with Remote Access Service (RAS), Routing and Remote Access Service (RRAS), and demand-dial routing. It is not a Visual C++, DirectX, .NET, or game runtime file.

Before you start: identify the failure

Common messages include:

  • mprddm.dll was not found
  • The code execution cannot proceed because mprddm.dll was not found
  • The program can't start because mprddm.dll is missing from your computer
  • mprddm.dll could not be loaded
  • Unable to load C:WINDOWSSystem32mprddm.dll
  • The specified module could not be found
  • mprddm.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error

The last message can indicate a damaged file, an incompatible replacement, or a missing dependency. Error 126 does not always mean the named DLL itself is absent. RRAS can report error 126 when another library required by mprddm.dll is damaged or unavailable.

Where mprddm.dll belongs

On 64-bit Windows, the normal locations are:

  • %windir%System32 for the native 64-bit Windows copy
  • %windir%SysWOW64 for the 32-bit copy used by 32-bit software

The name System32 is confusing but important: on 64-bit Windows, it normally contains 64-bit system files. SysWOW64 contains 32-bit files. Do not replace one architecture with the other.

To search the Windows directory, open Command Prompt as administrator and run:

where /r %windir% mprddm.dll

A result in a Windows system directory is more credible than a copy beside an unfamiliar application. A copy in a game folder, Downloads folder, or temporary directory should be treated cautiously and scanned.

For a system copy, right-click the file, select Properties, open Digital Signatures, and check that the signer is Microsoft. A signature check is useful, but it does not replace DISM and SFC because a correctly signed file can still be from the wrong Windows build or architecture.

Fix 1: repair Windows with DISM and SFC

Time needed: 10 to 30 minutes, plus a restart.

This is the safest first repair for a missing or corrupted mprddm.dll. DISM repairs the Windows component store, which Windows uses as a source for repairs. SFC then checks protected system files and replaces damaged copies.

  1. Save your work and close open programs.
  2. Open Start and type Command Prompt.
  3. Right-click Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator.
  4. Approve the User Account Control prompt.
  5. Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  1. Wait for DISM to finish. Do not close the window if progress appears to pause.
  2. Then run:
sfc /scannow
  1. Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
  2. Restart Windows.
  3. Reproduce the original error or start the affected service again.

A successful SFC result says that Windows Resource Protection found no integrity violations, or that it found corrupt files and repaired them. If SFC says it could not repair some files, run DISM again, restart, and run SFC a second time.

If DISM reports that repair source files could not be found, install pending Windows updates first. If it still fails, use matching official installation media as a repair source. The media must match the installed Windows edition, language, architecture, and build closely enough for DISM to use it.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Outbyte PC Repair can show what system problems its free scan identifies when you are tired of hunting through SFC and DISM output; repairs are performed by the full version, and it is not required for this fix.

Fix 2: install pending Windows updates

Time needed: 10 minutes to several hours, depending on downloads and restart requirements.

A failed or incomplete servicing operation can damage Windows components without producing a simple “file deleted” explanation. Bring Windows fully up to date before attempting more invasive repairs.

Windows 11

  1. Open Start.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Choose Windows Update.
  4. Select Check for updates.
  5. Install available updates.
  6. Restart when Windows requests it.
  7. Return to Windows Update and check again until no additional ordinary updates are offered.

Windows 10

  1. Open Start.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Choose Update & Security.
  4. Open Windows Update.
  5. Select Check for updates.
  6. Install the available updates and restart.
  7. Check again after the restart.

Run DISM and SFC again after servicing completes if the DLL error remains. If the error began immediately after an interrupted update, Windows Update repair may restore the component metadata that a manual DLL copy cannot.

Fix 3: check Windows Security quarantine

Time needed: 5 to 15 minutes.

Antivirus software can quarantine a system file after detecting suspicious activity, a modified copy, or a false positive. Do not restore a quarantined DLL simply because its name matches the error.

  1. Open Start.
  2. Type Windows Security and open it.
  3. Select Virus & threat protection.
  4. Choose Protection history.
  5. Review recent detections.
  6. Open any entry that identifies mprddm.dll.
  7. Check the path, detection details, and action taken.

Restore the file only when all of these conditions make sense:

  • The path is a normal Windows system directory.
  • The file is Microsoft-signed.
  • You have checked that the system is not infected.
  • The detection is understood to be a false positive or an accidental quarantine.

After restoring a legitimate file, run DISM and SFC, then restart. Microsoft Defender may detect the file again if it still considers it unsafe. If the file appeared in an application directory or beside an unknown executable, do not restore it blindly. Run a full scan instead.

Fix 4: verify RRAS and Remote Access on Windows Server

Time needed: 10 to 30 minutes for verification; longer if the role must be repaired.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

mprddm.dll has an identifiable relationship with demand-dial routing and RAS/RRAS. If the error appears in Event Viewer while Routing and Remote Access starts, the problem is probably in the Windows networking stack rather than in a game.

  1. Open Server Manager.
  2. Select Manage.
  3. Choose Add Roles and Features.
  4. Continue through the wizard until the Server Roles page.
  5. Check whether Remote Access is installed.
  6. Expand the role details and verify the required Routing or related Remote Access components for your configuration.
  7. If the role is missing, install it using the documented configuration for that server.
  8. If the role is present but damaged, repair or reinstall the role through Server Manager.
  9. Open Tools in Server Manager.
  10. Start Routing and Remote Access.
  11. Check whether the service starts without the DLL error.

Do not add or remove RRAS components on a production server without recording the current configuration and understanding the effect on VPN, routing, and remote-access clients. If DISM and SFC repaired the file but RRAS still fails, review the service-specific event and its dependency errors rather than copying another DLL.

On Windows 10 or 11 client editions, do not assume that enabling a random item in Turn Windows features on or off will install mprddm.dll. The file is part of Windows, while the server-side RRAS role has its own installation and configuration path.

Fix 5: check the exact architecture and path

Time needed: 5 to 10 minutes.

This step matters when someone already copied a DLL manually or when only a 32-bit or 64-bit program fails.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Press Windows key + R.
  2. Enter %windir%System32 and press Enter.
  3. Search for mprddm.dll.
  4. Repeat with %windir%SysWOW64 on 64-bit Windows.
  5. Compare the location named in the error with the program architecture.
  6. Open the file’s Properties and inspect Digital Signatures.

Do not use a 32-bit file to replace a 64-bit system file, or a file from a different Windows generation to replace the installed component. Public catalog records show that historical versions and sizes vary by build and architecture. There is no single universal current size or version that applies to every Windows installation.

If the file exists but Windows still reports that the module cannot be found, repair dependencies with DISM and SFC. A present DLL can still fail to load when one of its dependent Windows libraries is missing or damaged.

Fix 6: update network drivers only when the evidence points there

Time needed: 10 to 30 minutes.

A network driver is not the same thing as mprddm.dll, and updating a driver will not normally recreate a missing Windows DLL. It becomes relevant when Device Manager shows a network adapter error, RRAS fails after a driver change, or networking broke at the same time as the DLL message.

  7. Select Update driver.
  8. Choose Search automatically for drivers.
  9. Restart Windows if prompted.
  10. Test the network adapter and then retest RRAS or the affected program.

If Windows cannot find a driver, obtain the correct driver from the computer or adapter manufacturer for the exact model and Windows architecture. Do not use a random driver package as a substitute for repairing mprddm.dll.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Outbyte Driver Updater can reduce the manual work of checking which installed drivers are stale by showing what its free scan finds; driver installation is handled by the full version, and a driver update is not required when the actual fault is Windows component corruption.

Fix 7: use Windows 11 repair reinstall

Time needed: 30 minutes to several hours.

On supported Windows 11 versions, Windows Update can reinstall the current version while preserving apps, files, and settings. This is useful when DISM, SFC, and normal updates do not restore the component.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select System.
  3. Choose Recovery.
  4. Find Fix problems using Windows Update.
  5. Select Reinstall now.
  6. Follow the prompts.
  7. Keep the computer connected to power and connected to the internet.
  8. Restart if requested.
  9. Test the original error after Windows finishes.

If the option is unavailable, use official Windows installation media and choose the repair or upgrade path that preserves personal files and applications when offered. Confirm the edition and architecture before proceeding, and back up important data first.

Fix 8: scan for malware or perform a deeper recovery

Time needed: 30 minutes to several hours.

Malware is not the default explanation for every missing system DLL, but a same-named file outside the Windows directories, repeated quarantine events, unexplained system changes, or failed repairs justify a deeper scan.

  2. Select Virus & threat protection.
  3. Choose Scan options.
  4. Run a Full scan.
  5. If the problem remains suspicious, choose Microsoft Defender Offline scan.
  6. Save work before starting the offline scan because Windows will restart.

If Windows was working correctly before the failure and a suitable restore point exists, use System Restore:

  1. Open Start and search for Create a restore point.
  2. Open the result.
  3. Select System Restore.
  4. Choose a restore point from before the problem.
  5. Review the affected programs and complete the wizard.

If malware is suspected or repairs continue to fail, use Windows recovery options or an official installation-media repair. A clean reinstall is the last resort after backing up personal data and confirming that important files are not infected.

Why downloading mprddm.dll is a bad repair

Avoid DLL download sites sites and loose files from forums, file-sharing pages, or unofficial “DLL fixer” programs. A downloaded file can be:

  • Modified to contain malware.
  • The wrong Windows build.
  • The wrong architecture.
  • Missing its required dependencies.
  • Unsigned or signed by an unexpected publisher.
  • Incompatible with the component store and servicing metadata.

Manual copying also hides the real cause. If Windows lost several protected files or a dependency, replacing only mprddm.dll will not repair the system.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The safe sources are Windows servicing, Windows Update, a supported Windows repair reinstall, or matching official Windows installation media. Manual offline replacement is appropriate only for controlled servicing with a verified identical Windows image, not as a routine troubleshooting step.

Why regsvr32 usually does not apply

A .dll extension does not mean that a file should be registered with regsvr32. That command is intended for DLLs that expose the DllRegisterServer registration entry point.

mprddm.dll is a Windows networking implementation component, not a typical ActiveX or COM registration DLL. Running commands such as these is therefore not a normal repair:

regsvr32 mprddm.dll
regsvr32 %windir%System32mprddm.dll

They may produce an error stating that DllRegisterServer was not found, and they do not repair the component store, dependencies, permissions, or RRAS configuration.

Likely causes and the matching fix

Likely cause Best response
Missing or corrupted protected file Run DISM, then SFC, restart, and test
Damaged Windows component store Run DISM before running SFC again
Failed or incomplete Windows servicing Install updates, then use Windows repair reinstall if needed
Antivirus quarantine Check Protection History and verify the file before restoring
Damaged RRAS or Remote Access installation Repair the role and review RRAS events
Wrong architecture or Windows build Stop using the replacement and repair from matching Windows media
Missing dependency Use DISM and SFC rather than copying only the named DLL
Malware or side-loading Scan the system and investigate files outside Windows directories
Network driver failure Check Device Manager only when adapter evidence supports it

Other than the Windows component, do not assume a particular game, installer, Visual C++ package, or DirectX package caused the error. There is no verified standalone Microsoft redistributable package named mprddm.dll.

FAQ

Is mprddm.dll legitimate?

Yes. It is a Microsoft Windows system component named Demand Dial Manager Supervisor. A legitimate copy should normally be in a Windows system directory and should carry a Microsoft signature. A same-named file beside an unknown executable deserves additional scanning.

Is mprddm.dll a game DLL?

No evidence establishes it as a normal dependency for a particular modern game. If a game displays the message, determine whether Windows generated the error or whether the game directory contains its own suspicious copy.

Should I install Visual C++ or DirectX?

Not for this file alone. Install those runtimes only when the actual error identifies a missing Visual C++ or DirectX component. mprddm.dll belongs to Windows networking.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I copy the file from another computer?

Usually not. The other computer may have a different Windows build, architecture, language, servicing level, or dependency set. Use DISM, SFC, Windows Update, repair reinstall, or matching official installation media instead.

Why does Windows say the module cannot be found when the file exists?

The named file may depend on another missing or damaged Windows library. Error 126 can therefore occur even when mprddm.dll is visible in System32. This is why repairing the component store is more reliable than copying one file.

Do I need to enable a Windows feature?

Not usually on Windows client editions. mprddm.dll is a Windows component, while RRAS is primarily relevant to the Remote Access role on Windows Server. Do not enable unrelated optional features as a substitute for DISM and SFC.

What should I do if SFC cannot repair the file?

Run DISM first, restart, and run SFC again. If DISM cannot find source files, use matching official installation media. If repairs still fail, proceed to Windows Update repair, System Restore, or an in-place repair installation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is regsvr32 a fix?

No. The command is for DLLs that provide DllRegisterServer; it is not a general-purpose repair command for every .dll file. mprddm.dll should be repaired through Windows servicing and the relevant networking role.
