The MSI GeForce RTX 5080 16G EXPERT OC (G5080-16EC) pairs Nvidia’s RTX 5080 GPU with a distinctive dual-fan push-pull cooler, but its appeal depends on more than frame rates: it is a large, 360W card that needs a suitable PSU and generous case clearance. Independent reviews report controlled temperatures and mostly favorable acoustics, though results vary by test setup and one reviewer heard coil squeal. Whether it is worth choosing over another RTX 5080 depends on matched performance, noise, power and local price comparisons.

What the MSI RTX 5080 Expert OC offers

MSI’s product specification identifies this card as model G5080-16EC. It uses an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 GPU with 10,752 CUDA cores and 16GB of GDDR7 memory on a 256-bit interface. MSI lists memory speed at 30 Gbps, a 2715 MHz boost clock, and a 2730 MHz Extreme Performance profile available through MSI Center. The card uses a PCI Express Gen 5 x16 interface.

For display connections, MSI lists three DisplayPort 2.1b outputs and one HDMI 2.1b output, with support for up to four displays and a maximum digital resolution of 7680 × 4320. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent performance measurements. See MSI’s specification page and MSI’s product page.

How the push-pull cooler performs

MSI describes its Flow Frozr 2 cooling system as a two-fan push-pull design. The company also lists Stormforce fans, Zero Frozr fan stop at low temperatures, an advanced vapor chamber, square-shaped core pipes and a die-cast aluminum exterior. Those are design features and manufacturer claims; they do not guarantee a particular noise level or temperature in every PC.

Temperature and noise reports differ by test

In a review dated April 15, 2026, ThePCEnthusiast tested the card on an X870E motherboard with an AMD Ryzen 9 9900X. It reported a 61°C average GPU temperature and a 70°C peak in its test conditions, described the card as quiet, and recorded a maximum boost clock of 2867 MHz on its sample. Its power results varied by workload and resolution. These observations are specific to that review’s system and methods; they are not a prediction for every build. Read ThePCEnthusiast’s review.

Guru3D reports load temperatures typically around 65–70°C in its tests. It also heard noticeable coil squeal from its sample, while noting that coil whine varies among cards and operating conditions. That report is a reminder that cooler-fan noise and electrical coil noise are different things: favorable fan acoustics do not ensure that an individual card will be free of coil whine. See Guru3D’s review.

  • Chipset: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080

  • Digital maximum resolution: 7680 x 4320

The FPS Review found the push-pull cooling performed well against the RTX 5080 Founders Edition in its tests, including on memory temperature and noise, and described gaming noise as low. Its results belong to its own comparison and test methodology; they should not be merged with temperature readings from other outlets into a single synthetic test result. Gaming performance and power

The MSI card is an RTX 5080 with a factory-listed 2715 MHz boost clock, but the model name and clock specification alone do not establish how much faster it is than other RTX 5080 cards in a particular game. In The FPS Review’s stock comparison with the RTX 5080 Founders Edition, the MSI card delivered about a 2% performance increase while using 6% more power under that outlet’s test conditions. Treat that as a result from one comparison, not a universal uplift.

When comparing reviews or cards, use results from the same games, resolution and settings, and keep ray tracing and power profiles aligned. Separate native-rendered frame rates from frame-generation output: generated frames are not directly equivalent to frames rendered natively. For acoustic comparisons, check whether the outlet provides measured noise and fan-speed data, plus its ambient and test conditions. Board-power readings and whole-system power readings are also not interchangeable.

MSI rates the card at 360W, specifies one 16-pin power connector and recommends an 850W power supply. Guru3D reports approximately 300–325W in intense gaming and peaks up to 365W under its conditions. Those measurements are reviewer-specific and need not match MSI’s rated power figure: the test workload, measurement method and card behavior affect the result. Consult Guru3D’s power results alongside MSI’s official specifications.

Check your case and power connection before buying

The card measures 319 × 150 × 60 mm and has a listed weight of 1898 g. Check the full clearance in your case, including room for the 16-pin power cable and its bend, rather than checking card length alone. Because of its listed weight, confirm that the card is properly supported in your system. MSI’s dimensions and weight are on its specification page.

  1. Compare the 319 × 150 × 60 mm card dimensions with your case’s GPU clearance and any nearby components.
  2. Confirm that the PSU meets MSI’s 850W recommendation for your build, and that the correct 16-pin cable or a manufacturer-approved adapter is available.
  3. Follow the PSU maker’s instructions for the connector and cable routing, leaving enough space for a safe cable bend.
  4. Check whether your case or card setup needs additional support for the card’s listed 1898 g weight.

The 850W figure is MSI’s stated recommendation, not a guarantee that every system with an 850W PSU is suitable. The rest of the PC and the PSU maker’s guidance matter.

Is the MSI RTX 5080 Expert OC worth it?

The available reviews make a reasonable case for the cooler: their testers generally found temperatures controlled, and two outlets described gaming acoustics favorably. But they do not establish one universal temperature or noise outcome, and Guru3D’s coil-squeal report shows why silence cannot be promised. The FPS Review’s roughly 2% stock gain over the Founders Edition came with 6% more power in that review’s comparison, so a small performance advantage should be weighed against power and noise rather than treated as a free improvement.

Value depends on the price of this exact model in your region and the alternatives available when you buy. No verified current street price or stock status is established here. Compare the G5080-16EC with other RTX 5080 cards at a live, region-specific price, using matched gaming results and reviewing power, temperatures, acoustics and physical fit alongside performance. If a competing model offers similar results for less, or fits a constrained case better, the MSI’s distinctive cooler alone may not justify a premium.
