There is no confirmed evidence in Wizards of the Coast’s Streets of New Capenna (SNC) update materials that the April 2022 update caused a widespread “Asset Error Detected” problem, and those sources do not document an SNC-specific fix. Players have reported the exact message on Wizards’ feedback forum, but the reports do not establish a shared cause. If Arena still crashes or shows the message, record when it happens and report it with your platform and evidence.
Did the Streets of New Capenna update cause the error?
Wizards announced that Streets of New Capenna would debut in MTG Arena on April 28, 2022, in its April 21 State of the Game. A April 27 Jump In! update also announced new content for April 28. Neither article attributes “Asset Error Detected” or crashes to the SNC update, nor does either give a fix for that error.
Wizards’ feedback forum contains player reports using the exact message, including one describing it at startup and sometimes during games. These are reports of individual experiences, not an official diagnosis. They do not show how widespread the problem was, whether reports had the same cause, or whether SNC triggered it. See the Wizards feedback forum for the reported issue and reporting guidance.
What to do if Arena shows the message or crashes
Because the available official sources do not establish a specific cause or SNC-era fix, avoid treating a single reported workaround as a confirmed solution. Instead, document the failure clearly and send Wizards enough detail to investigate it.
#1 Best Overall
- Includes a mix of AT LEAST 25 Rares/Uncommons which is half of the cards.
- Absolutely NO... Basic lands, Foreign, or silver/gold bordered cards.
- Some may contain Foils or Mythics but not all.
- Sets can range from Beta to the current Magic the Gathering set.
- Mint/Excellent condition only.
- Note your platform. Record whether you are using Windows, macOS, iOS, or Android, as applicable.
- Describe when it happens. Say whether the error appears on startup, during a match, or after a particular action. Include the steps that lead to it, if you can reproduce them.
- Record actual and expected results. For example, state that Arena displays “Asset Error Detected” and closes during startup, rather than only saying the game is broken.
- Attach evidence. Include a screenshot or video of the message or crash if available.
- Submit the report through Wizards’ feedback forum. Wizards asks bug reporters to provide their platform, actual and expected results, and relevant screenshots or video.
Does an older Arena fix apply?
Not necessarily. Wizards’ May 24, 2019 patch notes, reproduced by devtrackers.gg, documented an “Asset Error Detected” issue for players whose Windows display language was set to Turkish. Those notes gave a language-related workaround and asked players encountering the error in other languages to submit a bug report.
That was a specific case from 2019. It does not establish that the SNC-era reports—or a current crash—have the same cause, and the historical workaround should not be treated as a universal fix.
