The official Magic: The Gathering card list for The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth is split across several pools: the main LTR set, the LTC Commander cards, special card treatments, and a separate selection called The List. Use the matching official gallery for the cards you want; Commander cards and The List are not simply extra entries in the main LTR checklist.
Where to find the official Lord of the Rings MTG card list
Start with Wizards of the Coast’s official card image gallery. For an overview of card treatments and where they appear in products, consult the collecting guide. The guide distinguishes the main set, Commander cards, and variants, and directs readers to the relevant galleries.
Before using a checklist, decide what you mean by “the set.” The main tabletop release uses set code LTR; the companion Commander card pool uses LTC. A checklist limited to LTR will not represent every card associated with the release.
- Main set (LTR): Use the main card gallery for the standard set checklist.
- Commander cards (LTC): Use the separate Commander decklists and card information when you want those cards.
- Variants: Check the variant gallery linked from Wizards’ collecting guide if you are tracking alternate treatments or printings.
- The List: Treat this as its own pool, rather than folding it into an LTR or LTC checklist.
Are the Commander cards included in the main set list?
No. LTR and LTC are distinct card pools, so a main-set checklist does not automatically include Commander cards. Wizards announced four themed decks: Riders of Rohan, Food and Fellowship, Elven Council, and The Hosts of Mordor. Their colors are, respectively, blue-red-white; white-black-green; green-blue; and blue-black-red.

- ALTERNATE-ART CARD IN EVERY PACK—Whether it’s a Borderless Scene card with art that’s one piece of a larger, multi-card scene or a Showcase Ring card with art circled by the inscription from the One Ring, every Set Booster contains at least 1 special alt-art, alt-frame card
Each deck has 20 new-to-Magic cards, including two mythic rares, according to Wizards’ collecting guide. The decks also include a foil-etched display commander and a Collector Booster Sample Pack. For identifying a deck’s actual cards, use the Commander gallery alongside the product documentation.
There is a caveat if you use Wizards’ interactive decklists as a contents checklist: the publisher says they automatically use each card’s newest printing, even when that printing is not in the product, and cards missing from the database may appear under “Other.” Wizards explicitly cautions that its decklists are not card-for-card product displays.

What is The List, and how does it relate to this set?
The List is a separate selection of reprints, not another name for the full Tales of Middle-earth checklist. In a 2023 article, Wizards described the Tales of Middle-earth selection as 300 cards chosen to complement the setting. That same article reported that a List card appeared about 25% of the time in the final slot of a Set Booster for this release. That is a reported chance, not a promise that a particular pack—or any pack—will contain a specific card.
List cards retain their usual format legality; their appearance in The List does not make them legal in formats where they otherwise are not. See Wizards’ The List announcement for the release-specific details.

Which products contain these cards?
Wizards’ product information lists Set and Draft Boosters, Collector Boosters, Prerelease Packs, Bundles, a Starter Kit, Scene Boxes, and the four Commander decks. These are product categories documented for the 2023 release, not confirmation of current stock or prices.
| What you want | Product type to consider | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| A ready-to-play Commander starting point | One of the four themed Commander decks | A preconstructed deck; consult its product documentation and Commander card gallery to check contents. |
| Randomized cards for opening and collecting | Set, Draft, or Collector Boosters | Randomized contents; official product descriptions do not guarantee a named card in a pack. |
| A particular card | A clearly identified single-card listing | Use the official gallery to confirm the card and treatment, then check a listing that names the exact card and printing. |
For a specific card, first confirm its name and version in the gallery; then look for a single-card listing that identifies that printing. Buying randomized packs is a collecting or play-product choice, not a reliable way to guarantee a named card.

What formats are LTR cards legal in?
Wizards’ release notes list LTR-coded cards as permitted in Modern, Commander, Legacy, and Vintage. The List article says cards on The List keep their normal legality. Format rules and banned lists can change, so check Wizards’ current format pages before building or entering a deck. The release-specific statement does not establish that every card from the broader Lord of the Rings product line is legal in each format.
