Wizards of the Coast first unveiled the crossover at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2025; the tabletop set followed on September 26, 2025. Its official card list confirms that the villain reveal became part of the released set, not just a promotional tease.
Which Spider-Man villains are in the MTG set?
Wizards’ July 2025 first look named Venom, Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus among the set’s villains, with Spider-Man, Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy representing its heroes. The official card list includes multiple Venom entries and Green Goblin cards, including Ultimate Green Goblin. The concept was broader than a handful of character cameos: Wizards presented the set as a trip through Spider-Man’s world, drawing on both its heroes and its villains. Its design team has also described gameplay decisions behind that roster. The designers wanted booster openings to include both Spider-Heroes and villains, then adjusted the balance after finding the initial mix too villain-heavy. They also chose to give cards with “Spider” or “Goblin” in their names the corresponding creature subtypes, so those familiar character labels could support in-game interactions. What products and card treatments did the set include?
Wizards listed Play Boosters, Collector Boosters, Bundles, Gift Bundles, Scene Boxes and Prerelease Packs. The set also uses several card treatments, including borderless Source Material, Classic Comic, Scene and Panel cards, Web-Slinger cards and extended-art cards. Which treatment appears depends on the product; a sealed pack does not guarantee any particular character or card.

Play Boosters and Collector Boosters
Play Boosters are the set’s pack option for opening cards and playing. Collector Boosters are the product to consider if the appeal is special treatments: Wizards says traditional foil Source Material cards and select extended-art rare and mythic rare cards are exclusive to Collector Boosters. Scene Box
The Spidey’s Sensational Showdown Scene Box contains six borderless traditional foil cards designed to form a scene. Non-foil versions of those scene cards are available in Collector Boosters. When did Magic: The Gathering | Marvel’s Spider-Man release?
The tabletop release date was September 26, 2025. Wizards’ prerelease window ran September 19–25, 2025. The release-season schedule also included Commander events, Magic Academy learn-to-play and deck-building events, Magic Presents: A Villainous Halloween, and Spider-Man: The Final Battle. What were the set’s release-era format rules?
At release, Wizards said cards with the SPM set code were permitted in Standard, Pioneer and Modern, as well as Commander and other formats. Cards with the SPE and MAR codes had a different release-legality statement. These are release-era notes, not a guarantee of current legality: format rules and banned lists can change. Check Wizards’ current format information before relying on a card’s status for a deck or event.
