For Sealed, start with the strongest two colors your pool can support, then build a 40-card deck around its best threats and removal, with a curve and mana base you can cast reliably.
How do you build a Bloomburrow Sealed deck?
Wizards’ Bloomburrow Prerelease Guide recommends sorting your pool by color, then choosing colors by card quality—not by which colors have the most cards. A rare is not automatically playable, but look for cards that can take over a game, demand an answer, draw cards, or generate lasting value. After identifying threats, assess removal and other interaction, then make sure your mana can support the cards you want to play.
- Sort and evaluate. Separate your cards by color and identify strong creatures, card-advantage sources, removal, and cards that can answer opposing threats.
- Compare realistic color pairs. For each promising pair, count playable cards and weigh threat quality, interaction, early plays, and how well the mana can cast the deck. Do not choose a pair solely because it has the most cards.
- Check the curve. A deck needs useful plays early as well as powerful cards later. Use the curve below as a starting point, not a checklist to obey mechanically.
- Build the mana base. Seventeen lands is a common starting point. Consider fixing such as Uncharted Haven or Hidden Grotto if it helps cast your strongest cards, but account for the cost of including lands that may enter tapped or produce less convenient mana.
- Trim to at least 40 cards. The Prerelease Guide describes a 40-card minimum for the Sealed deck. Keep the strongest coherent plan rather than adding weak cards just to include more of your pool.
Use the curve as a guide
Wizards gives this general Limited template: 1–2 one-mana cards, 7–8 two-mana cards, 5–6 three-mana cards, 3–4 four-mana cards, 2–3 five-mana cards, 0–1 six-mana card, and 17 lands. These are guideline ranges, not required counts. A low-curve aggressive deck may need fewer expensive cards; a deck built to spend more mana on large threats may reasonably skew higher.
Compare two possible builds
If your pool supports more than one plausible pair, compare them on the same practical questions:

- SHINING FOIL IN EVERY PACK—Every booster also includes at least 1 shining Traditional Foil card of any rarity; in 20% of packs you’ll also find a Traditional Foil Land card
- Threats: Which pair has the cards most likely to win if unanswered?
- Interaction: Which can remove, counter, or otherwise contain opposing threats?
- Early turns: Which has more useful plays before the game is decided by larger creatures?
- Mana: Which can cast its important cards consistently, including any splash?
- Synergy: Which pair’s cards reinforce a workable mechanic or creature-type plan without requiring an ideal, Draft-like lineup?
This is a comparison framework, not an official scoring system. If one pair has a more exciting theme but an unreliable mana base or too few early plays, the less flashy build may be stronger in practice.
What are Bloomburrow’s color-pair archetypes?
The set’s ten two-color themes are useful signposts for recognizing synergies in your pool. Sealed does not guarantee enough of the right cards for a textbook archetype, so treat these as clues, not instructions to force a lane. Wizards also notes that creature-type bridges and hybrid cards can support mixed plans.

- In Bloomburrow, the Valley is threatened by elemental forces raging out of control, and salvation falls on the shoulders of its smallest protectors. Players will put their best paws forward, fighting alongside mice, frogs, bats, birds, and myriad other critters to restore the balance of peace—and prove bravery comes in all sizes.
| Color pair | Creature type | Typical plan |
|---|---|---|
| White-blue | Birds | Small creatures, flying, and strengthening creatures; offspring tokens can benefit from the plan. |
| Blue-black | Rats | Slower control with threshold, which cares about having seven or more cards in your graveyard. |
| Black-red | Lizards | Aggressive pressure using life-loss triggers, direct damage, and combat tricks. |
| Red-green | Raccoons | Build toward large-mana turns and hard-hitting creatures; expend rewards spending substantial mana. |
| Green-white | Rabbits | Offspring and token swarms. |
| White-black | Bats | Flying and life-gain or life-loss triggers. |
| Blue-red | Otters | Spells matter: casting spells and spell-related synergies. |
| Black-green | Squirrels | Sacrifice and value, with forage-related synergies. |
| Red-white | Mice | Valiant and aggressive combat, often supported by a lower curve. |
| Green-blue | Frogs | Growth and creature-based value. |
Do not assume any one pair is categorically best. The official guide describes the themes and deckbuilding approach, but does not provide color-pair win rates or a set-specific ranking.
What do Bloomburrow’s mechanics mean in a game?
Mechanics can change how you value a card, but the exact card text and timing matter. Wizards’ Bloomburrow Release Notes and Matt Tabak’s Bloomburrow Mechanics explain the set’s rules interactions. Wizards cautions that future rules updates may make release notes outdated, so use current Magic rules if a rules question arises.

Offspring
Offspring is an optional additional cost on a creature. If you pay it, the creature’s enter-the-battlefield ability creates a 1/1 token copy when the creature enters. The token otherwise has the copied creature’s name, types, mana cost and abilities. The added cost can make a card useful both as an early play and as a later source of extra value.
Gift
Gift is an optional promise made as an additional cost. For a permanent spell, the gift is delivered when its triggered ability resolves after the permanent enters. For an instant or sorcery, the gift happens as the spell resolves, before its other effects. If the spell does not resolve, the gift is not given.

Forage
To forage, either exile three cards from your graveyard or sacrifice a Food. A Food sacrificed to forage cannot also be sacrificed for its own life-gain ability. Check whether a Food or graveyard cards are more valuable to your plan before paying the cost.
Valiant
Valiant is an ability word for abilities that trigger the first time each turn that creature becomes the target of a spell or ability its controller controls. It rewards targeting your own creature, but the trigger is limited to once per turn for that creature.

- 6 Bloomburrow Play Boosters; each Play Booster contains 14 Magic cards
- 1 foil, year-stamped Rare or Mythic Rare
- 1 Magic: The Gathering Arena code card (only available in select regions)

Expend
Expend abilities care about spending a specified amount of mana to cast spells during a turn. Check the threshold and wording on the individual card: qualifying mana-spending events trigger the ability, so the timing of your spells can matter.
Season spells
Season spells let you choose modes up to the number of pawprint symbols on the spell. The symbols are not a resource to save for later; make the allowed choices as you cast the spell.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is Bloomburrow Draft the same as Sealed?
No. In Sealed, your deck comes from the cards in your opened event pool. In Draft, players select cards from packs during the draft, so the pool is shaped by those picks. The release notes distinguish cards opened from Bloomburrow Play Boosters in Sealed from cards drafted in Draft. The color-pair themes and mechanics can inform either format, but a Sealed deck should be built around the actual cards you opened rather than an assumed Draft archetype.
If you meant Draft
Use the archetype table as a map of possible synergies, not as a pick order. Draft advice must account for cards available during the draft and the picks you make; the Sealed pool-evaluation steps above are specifically for building from a fixed pool.

Wizards’ 2024 Prerelease Guide and release materials establish that a Bloomburrow Prerelease Pack supplies six Play Boosters for the Sealed pool and describe a 40-card minimum deck. Wizards’ guide also presents 17 lands and its curve ranges as general deckbuilding guidance. Those figures describe the product and a recommended starting template, not evidence that a particular color pair or strategy wins more often.
