If you mean Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II (2022), the documented path is to unlock Orion, then complete the equipped-camo kill challenges for each weapon. Activision confirms the camo progression and per-weapon rewards, and alludes to a further reward for completing the full mastery journey. Its public guide does not specify the exact trigger or weapon count for that extra reward, so check the current in-game challenge screen before treating a particular number as definitive.
What “hidden mastery reward” means in MW2
The headline refers to Modern Warfare II (2022), not the 2009 game. There are three different milestones that are easy to confuse:
- Camo unlocks: Gold, Platinum, Polyatomic, and Orion are progression camos.
- Weapon Mastery: after unlocking those camos, complete each weapon’s kill challenge while the corresponding camo is equipped. Each completed challenge awards that weapon’s Calling Card and Emblem; completing all four on one weapon also awards its Charm.
- Full-arsenal completion: Activision’s guide alludes to an additional completion reward, but does not name it or give a precise eligibility rule. Player posts call this “Grand Mastery” and describe extra cosmetics, but those reports are anecdotal and do not establish a reliable count.
For the extra reward, use the in-game challenge interface as the authority for your current account and game state. The public official documentation does not confirm whether the requirement is all launch weapons, a fixed number of eligible weapons, or how later-added weapons count.
How to unlock Orion
Orion is the final camo in Activision’s documented progression route. The guide sets a threshold of 51 weapons for the Polyatomic and Orion unlock steps; that is a camo threshold, not confirmation of the separate full-arsenal mastery requirement.

- Complete the base camo challenges for a weapon. For gunsmithable weapons, Activision’s launch-era explanation describes four base challenges; weapons without Gunsmith attachments have one.
- Earn Gold on the required weapons in a category. Doing so opens that category’s Platinum challenges.
- Earn Platinum on 51 weapons. This opens the Polyatomic challenges.
- Complete Polyatomic challenges on 51 weapons. This unlocks Orion. Activision says Orion is then automatically granted to every weapon that has Polyatomic; earning Polyatomic on additional weapons also grants Orion.
Activision calls Orion the “official mark of completion for Weapon Camos.” The 51-weapon figure belongs to this documented camo path; it should not be used as a confirmed count for the extra mastery reward.
How Weapon Mastery challenges work
Once a mastery camo is available, equip it on the weapon and get kills with that weapon to progress its matching mastery challenge. Activision’s M4 example gives this sequence:

These are the M4 figures in Activision’s guide, not a guarantee that every weapon uses the same kill counts. Check the individual weapon’s challenge text in-game.

Each completed camo mastery challenge awards a Calling Card and an Emblem associated with that weapon. Finish all four mastery challenges on a single weapon and you also earn that weapon’s Charm. Activision Support describes the Charm condition as completing all Weapon Mastery Challenges for that weapon.

Where to verify the extra reward
The official public material establishes the camo sequence, the 51-weapon camo threshold, the M4 example, and the individual weapon cosmetics. It does not name the additional full-mastery reward or state its exact trigger. Because player accounts differ and some report tracking problems, do not rely on an online weapon-count claim as official rule text. Check the relevant challenge entry in-game and confirm its progress before committing to a completion target.
Does progress carry across platforms?
Activision Support says weapon and camo progression, along with unlocked content, is available on platforms when you use the same linked Activision account on which the progress was earned.
