The JAK Beholder Rifle Kit was a conversion attachment for the TYR in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, not a separate rifle. Season 1 patch notes documented an issue that prevented players from equipping it after unlocking it, then recorded that it could be equipped. The notes also documented other challenge-tracking problems, but they do not establish whether any of these issues remain in the live game today.
What the JAK Beholder challenge required
The Season 1 unlock guide from Prima Games said players had to complete five Week 3 challenges to unlock the kit. The available challenges spanned Multiplayer, Zombies, and Warzone; the guide said players could complete their five in any mode.

Unlocking and equipping were separate steps. Completing the challenges satisfied the unlock requirement; it did not mean the attachment would necessarily be available to equip at that point in the game’s history.
What the patch notes documented
Season 1: the TYR kit equip issue
In the official Modern Warfare III Season 1 patch notes, the TYR entry stated that the JAK Beholder Rifle Kit Attachment could now be equipped once unlocked. This records an equip fix; it does not change the historical Week 3 challenge requirement.
#1 Best Overall
- Call of Duty: Modern Wafare II PS5
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is the sequel to 2019’s blockbuster Modern Warfare.
- Featuring the return of the iconic, team leader Captain John Price, the fearless John "Soap" MacTavish, the seasoned Sergeant Kyle "Gaz” Garrick, and the lone wolf himself, fan favorite Simon “Ghost” Riley, players will witness what makes Task Force 141 the legendary squad it is today.
- Some features may require an internet connection and an online subscription
Other Season 1 challenge problems
The same notes documented a tracking problem with the Week 4 Zombies challenge “Destroy 5 Vehicles with a Recommended Weapon.” They also listed a tracking fix for a Week 8 JAK Thunder challenge and a correction to a challenge description. These were separate challenge issues, not evidence that the Beholder unlock itself was broken for every player.
Season 2: broader tracking fixes
The official Season 2 patch notes, dated March 21, 2024, with entries including March 22, said several Season 2 Weekly Challenges that had not tracked progression properly were fixed. They also said weapons in Semi-Auto fire mode would properly progress associated challenges after the update. Those entries show that tracking problems were not limited to the Beholder, but they do not prove that every challenge bug was resolved.

Does this bug still affect MWIII?
The cited patch notes establish that the Beholder equip issue was recognized and addressed during Season 1, and that other challenge issues received fixes in Season 1 and Season 2. They do not establish the status of the live game in October 2026. No current reproduction or present-day fix is confirmed here, so an old report should not be treated as proof that the attachment is still bugged—or that all challenge tracking now works reliably.
If you are encountering a similar problem now, first distinguish the symptom: a challenge may fail to register progress, or the kit may be missing from the TYR gunsmith after the unlock. Those are different issues. Check the current in-game challenge and attachment state, and consult current official patch notes for a fix specific to the symptom; the historical notes do not verify a workaround or a changed Armory Unlock path.

Why players reported “completed but not unlocked”
A historical Reddit post used the wording “Am I missing something? JAK Beholder completed but not unlocked.” That is an individual report, not evidence of how common the problem was or whether it describes a current issue. The official patch note is the stronger record: it confirms that an equip issue existed after unlocking and that the game was updated so the attachment could be equipped.
