The two MAGIX copies serve different application architectures. A 32-bit executable uses MxMidiOut_vc12.dll; the 64-bit executable uses MxMidiout_vc12_x64.dll. Do not rename one file to create the other, and do not copy both into Windows system folders.
The name alone also cannot prove whether a replacement file is safe. If a file with this name appears in an unexpected folder, check its location, digital signature, installation source, and any antivirus event before allowing it to run.

Fix 1: Verify the Samplitude files through Steam
If you installed Samplitude Music Studio 2019 Steam Edition through Steam, file verification is the best first repair. It replaces missing or altered files from the product package without requiring you to locate an individual DLL.

- Select Library.
- Right-click Samplitude Music Studio 2019 Steam Edition.
- Select Properties.
- Open Installed Files.
- Select Verify integrity of game files.
- Wait for the check to finish.
- Restart Steam.
- Launch Samplitude again.
Steam may report that some files were reacquired. That is expected when an application file was deleted, quarantined, or damaged.
If the program starts normally, the repair worked. If the same error returns, check your antivirus history before repeating the verification. Security software may remove the restored file again.
Fix 2: Repair or reinstall the MAGIX application
Use this route when Steam verification is unavailable, fails repeatedly, or the program was installed through a MAGIX installer.
First, close Samplitude and any MAGIX background processes. Then:

- Open Settings with
Windows+I. - Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Search for Samplitude Music Studio or the affected MAGIX product.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Uninstall, if the installer does not offer a repair option.
- Restart Windows.
- Sign in to the original MAGIX or Steam account.
- Download the application only from the account or installer source used to obtain it.
- Install the same edition and architecture required by the existing executable.
- Start the program once after installation completes.
If the installer provides Repair, use that before uninstalling. A repair should restore the application directory while preserving the existing installation where supported.
Do not copy mxmidiout_vc12.dll from another computer. Even if the filename matches, the other installation may contain a different build, architecture, or dependency set.
Fix 3: Check whether antivirus quarantined the DLL
A missing DLL often means the file was removed rather than never installed.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review entries from the time the Samplitude error began.
- Look for an event naming
mxmidiout_vc12.dll, the Samplitude installation directory, or the application executable. - Open the event details and verify the path.
- If the installation came from a trusted official source and the detection is demonstrably incorrect, use Allow on device or Restore, according to the available Windows Security option.
- Run Steam file verification or repair the MAGIX installation again.
- Start the application.
Do not turn off antivirus protection simply to make the error disappear. If the file was found outside the known application directory, leave it blocked and run a full scan. A file with a familiar name can still be malicious when placed in an unexpected location.

Fix 4: Install the matching Visual C++ 2013 runtime
A message saying “the specified module could not be found” does not always mean the named DLL itself is absent. Windows may be unable to load a dependency required by that DLL.
The filename suggests a Visual Studio 2013-era build, so the official Visual C++ 2013 Redistributable is the relevant conditional dependency to test. Microsoft provides separate packages:

On 64-bit Windows, install the x86 package when the affected application is 32-bit. Installing only x64 does not satisfy a 32-bit program.

If the package is not installed, obtain Visual C++ 2013 only from Microsoft’s official download page. Install the architecture that matches the application, not merely the architecture of Windows.
Newer Visual C++ packages do not automatically replace every older generation. Multiple redistributable generations can remain installed side by side.
If mxmidiout_vc12.dll is genuinely missing, Visual C++ will not recreate it. Return to Steam verification or MAGIX reinstallation.
Fix 5: Confirm that the executable and DLL architecture match
A 32-bit application and a 64-bit application cannot freely exchange their DLLs.
Check which executable the shortcut launches:
- Right-click the Samplitude shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Shortcut tab.
- Select Open File Location.
- Note whether the executable is
MusicStudio.exeorMusicStudio_x64.exe.
The 32-bit executable should use MxMidiOut_vc12.dll. The 64-bit executable should use MxMidiout_vc12_x64.dll.
If the application folder contains a mixture of files from different installations, remove the mixture by repairing or reinstalling the complete application. Do not rename the x64 DLL, place it beside a 32-bit executable, or manually substitute files from another edition.

Fix 6: Check Windows components only after repairing the app
Windows repair tools repair protected Windows components. They generally do not restore a missing MAGIX DLL from an application directory, so use them as a secondary step.
First install pending Windows updates:
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart Windows.
Then open an elevated Command Prompt:
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
Wait for DISM to finish. Then run:
sfc /scannow
Restart Windows after SFC completes and test Samplitude again.
If SFC reports that it repaired files, test the application. If both commands complete without changing the DLL error, repair the MAGIX installation rather than repeating the commands indefinitely.

mxmidiout_vc12.dll is an application library, not a device driver. Updating drivers is therefore not the first repair. Consider it only if the program starts after restoring the DLL but fails when opening a MIDI interface or audio device.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
- Expand Audio inputs and outputs.
- Look for warning icons or an unrecognized MIDI or audio device.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
For a manufacturer-specific driver, download it from the hardware manufacturer’s official support page. Do not replace mxmidiout_vc12.dll with a driver file.

Why regsvr32 usually does not help
regsvr32 is for DLLs that expose registration functions such as DllRegisterServer. It is not a general-purpose command for installing or repairing any DLL.
Do not run this as a routine fix:
regsvr32 mxmidiout_vc12.dll
This application library is not documented as an ActiveX or COM server. The command is unlikely to restore it and may produce an error stating that the entry point was not found. Use application verification or reinstallation instead.

Avoid random DLL download sites
Downloading a replacement DLL from a search result is risky because the file may:
- Contain malware
- Be the wrong architecture
- Belong to a different application
- Have been modified
- Require dependencies your system still lacks
- Hide the real installation problem
It can also leave an untracked file in the application directory or encourage copying an unknown file into System32. The safe sources are Steam’s file verification, the original MAGIX installation account or media, and Microsoft’s official Visual C++ redistributable packages.

If the DLL exists but cannot load a dependency, test Visual C++ 2013. Use x86 for a 32-bit Samplitude executable and x64 for a 64-bit executable.
Why does Windows say the module is missing when I can see the file?
The named DLL may depend on another missing or damaged library. Architecture mismatch and corruption can produce similar wording.
Can I register it with regsvr32?
Normally no. It is not known to be a COM or ActiveX registration DLL.
What if reinstalling does not work?
