What is My First Gran Turismo?
My First Gran Turismo is a free-to-play introduction to the Gran Turismo series, created for players of different ages and driving skill levels. PlayStation’s December 2024 announcement called it a free trial version of Gran Turismo 7; the current product FAQ clarifies that it is a standalone experience, not a GT7 demo. It offers a taste of GT7’s racing style, cars and tracks without requiring players to own that game. PlayStation’s current product page and the original announcement explain the distinction.

When did it release, and what platforms support it?
PlayStation announced the game on December 4, 2024, and released it on December 6, 2024, at midnight local time. The current US listing shows PS4 and PS5 versions, both free to download. This was one of the events marking PlayStation’s 30th anniversary; the company had previewed My First GT as part of its anniversary celebrations in September 2024. PlayStation’s anniversary post introduced the project before its release date was announced.
What can you play?
The game combines short events and beginner-focused instruction. PlayStation lists 18 unique cars and three featured circuits: Kyoto Driving Park, Deep Forest Raceway and Trial Mountain Circuit.

The License Centre tutorials also teach circuit driving and racing techniques, while the selected cars are tuned for an approachable experience. Events and modes can be replayed. PlayStation estimates that the full experience takes around two hours to complete; that is the publisher’s estimate, not an independently measured completion time. Does it require internet or PlayStation VR2?
No internet connection is required to play the game. You need to be online to view leaderboards and compare lap times. The listing describes a single-player experience with online leaderboards, not online multiplayer.

On PS5, optional PlayStation VR2 support lets players use the game with the headset. VR2 is not required; the game can also be played without it.
Can you transfer cars to Gran Turismo 7?
Yes. Cars unlocked in My First Gran Turismo can be transferred to Gran Turismo 7 through GT7’s Gift Menu, according to PlayStation’s current FAQ. The free game stands alone, so buying GT7 is not necessary to play it. GT7 is simply the relevant next step for players who want the broader game.

Why was it part of PlayStation’s anniversary?
PlayStation presented My First Gran Turismo as a free invitation to the series during its 30th-anniversary celebrations. In the December 4, 2024 announcement, Kazunori Yamauchi, president of Polyphony Digital and creator of Gran Turismo, described it as a “special free-to-play invitation to dive into the exhilarating world of motorsports.” The anniversary connection is also documented in PlayStation’s September 2024 celebration post.
