Naruto, Boruto, and the New Kishimoto Manga: The Correct Reading Order

By VGSources Team 8 min read

For the core manga story, read Naruto Chapters 1–700, optionally read Naruto: The Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring, then read Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Chapters 1–80, followed by Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. A new Naruto manga drawn by Masashi Kishimoto was announced on October 10, 2026, but its title, format, release date and exact place in the timeline have not been announced yet.

The complete manga reading order

The two Boruto manga parts have a fixed sequence: Boruto: Naruto Next Generations comes first, and Boruto: Two Blue Vortex continues it. The only meaningful choice in the established story is whether to insert The Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring between Naruto and Boruto.

Order Work What to read Purpose
1 Naruto Chapters 1–700 The original, complete Naruto story
2 (optional) Naruto: The Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring Complete one-volume manga A short bridge into the next generation
3 Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Chapters 1–80 The first Boruto manga part
4 Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Start at Chapter 1 and continue in publication order The second Boruto manga part
5 New Kishimoto Naruto manga Wait for official release information Announced, but not yet positionable in the sequence

Chapter and volume availability depends on territory and edition. The chapter numbers above follow the VIZ English-language catalog snapshot checked in October 2026, not a guarantee that every regional service displays the same inventory.

1. Start with Naruto, Chapters 1–700

Read the original Naruto manga from Chapter 1 through Chapter 700. Chapter 700 is the endpoint of the main series and the point at which the original manga’s central story concludes. VIZ’s franchise catalog lists the series through that chapter and notes that Naruto concluded in late 2014.

Why Chapter 700 is the handoff point

The later manga assume that you know the relationships, political changes and character outcomes established by the original series. Stopping earlier means entering Boruto without the complete context for Naruto’s generation. There is no alternate Naruto chapter order for a first-time reader: read the numbered chapters consecutively.

What this guide does not include

This is the core manga route, not a chronology of every novel, film, anime-original arc or side story. Those formats can add material, but they are not required to establish the manga sequence covered here.

2. Decide whether to read The Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring

Naruto: The Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring is an optional bridge between the two major series. It is written and drawn by Masashi Kishimoto and follows the next generation, including Naruto’s son Boruto and Sasuke’s daughter Sarada.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What the bridge adds

  • It shows the post-Naruto generation before the longer Boruto storyline.
  • It introduces Boruto and Sarada in a compact, self-contained story.
  • It gives readers a transition from the original cast’s conclusion to the children and successors who drive the next manga.

What it does not change

The story is not a required missing chapter between Naruto Chapter 700 and Boruto Chapter 1. Skipping it does not prevent you from following the main Boruto manga. Read it if you want a fuller handoff and a short Kishimoto-drawn story; skip it if you want to move directly into the first Boruto part.

Edition details

The VIZ paperback edition is 216 pages and carries ISBN-13 978-1-4215-8493-5. Digital availability and the exact paperback listing vary by region, so check the edition sold in your territory.

3. Read Boruto: Naruto Next Generations through Chapter 80

After Naruto (and optionally Scarlet Spring), read Boruto: Naruto Next Generations from Chapter 1 through Chapter 80. Treat these 80 chapters as the first part of the Boruto manga rather than as a separate continuity that can be rearranged with Two Blue Vortex.

Where this part ends

VIZ identifies Chapter 80 as the latest chapter of Next Generations and lists Volume 20 as its final collected volume. That makes Chapter 80 the practical stopping point before Part Two. If you are reading in collected editions, Volume 20 completes this first part.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Authorship credits

The catalog credits Masashi Kishimoto with creation and supervision, Mikio Ikemoto with art, and Ukyo Kodachi with the script for Next Generations. Calling the series a manga solely written and drawn by Kishimoto is inaccurate.

4. Continue with Boruto: Two Blue Vortex

Begin Boruto: Two Blue Vortex only after finishing Chapter 80 of Next Generations. The official Naruto site describes Two Blue Vortex as the second part that follows the first Boruto series, and its retrospective directs readers from the close of Part One into the new opening chapter.

How to read Part Two

  1. Finish Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Chapter 80.
  2. Open Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 1.
  3. Continue in numerical publication order as new chapters are released.

In the VIZ catalog snapshot checked on September 17, 2026, Two Blue Vortex was listed through Chapter 37. That date is a catalog reference, not a permanent final chapter count; the series is ongoing and later updates may show additional chapters.

Who makes Two Blue Vortex?

VIZ credits Kishimoto with creation and supervision and Ikemoto with the art. Those credits describe a collaborative production, not a solo Kishimoto writing-and-drawing credit.

5. Where the newly announced Kishimoto manga fits

At New York Comic Con on October 10, 2026, the official franchise announcement revealed a new Naruto manga drawn by Masashi Kishimoto. The teaser displayed the wording “A new ‘Naruto’ manga drawn by Masashi Kishimoto.” VIZ issued an independent October 10 release confirming that Kishimoto is working on a new Naruto manga.

What is confirmed

  • A new Naruto manga by Kishimoto has been officially announced.
  • The announcement included teaser storyboards.
  • Further details were scheduled for Jump Festa 2027 on December 19–20, 2026.

What is not confirmed

  • No final English title has been established in the announcement material.
  • No publication date or release schedule has been given.
  • The format is unknown: it could be a serial, one-shot or limited series.
  • The announcement does not specify whether it is set before, during or after the existing Boruto timeline.

For that reason, do not insert this work into the numbered reading order as though it were already available. Finish the published sequence through Two Blue Vortex, then read the new manga when its official publication details establish its placement. Reports that call it Naruto: Shadow Rising or attach a detailed plot should not be treated as confirmed unless an official publisher announcement adopts that title and description.

Should you read Scarlet Spring?

Choice Best for Trade-off
Include it Readers who want a complete transition from Naruto’s era to Boruto’s generation Adds a short, separate manga before the main Boruto run
Skip it Readers focused only on the principal serialized story You move directly from Naruto Chapter 700 to Boruto Chapter 1 without the bridge

There is no similar choice between the two Boruto parts. Reading Two Blue Vortex before Next Generations reverses the published sequence and removes the intended setup for Part Two.

Practical ways to follow the order

Reading digitally

Use a licensed service that lists the chapters in your region. Confirm that the series name is exactly Boruto: Naruto Next Generations before starting, because Two Blue Vortex is cataloged as a separate series. Regional licensing can affect which chapters or volumes are visible.

Reading in paperback volumes

Complete the Naruto collection through the volume containing Chapter 700. Add the Scarlet Spring paperback if you want the bridge, then finish Next Generations through Volume 20 before buying or borrowing Two Blue Vortex volumes. Check the publisher, ISBN and language of each edition because similarly titled listings can belong to different territories.

Returning after a long break

  1. Check whether you finished Naruto Chapter 700.
  2. If you stopped during the first Boruto series, resume at the last chapter you clearly remember and continue to Chapter 80.
  3. Start Two Blue Vortex at Chapter 1 only after confirming that Chapter 80 is complete.
  4. Keep the new Kishimoto announcement separate from your current reading list until its title, release and chronology are official.

Buying the right edition

Readers who prefer print have three especially relevant checkpoints. Scarlet Spring is available as a 216-page VIZ paperback with ISBN-13 978-1-4215-8493-5. Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Vol. 20 is the collected-edition endpoint for the first Boruto part. After that, look for Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Vol. 1 to begin Part Two in print. Retail stock, prices, language and release timing differ by country, so verify the publisher listing and ISBN rather than relying on a marketplace title alone.

A chapter count shown by one storefront is not a universal availability promise. VIZ’s English catalog is region-sensitive, and digital chapters may appear on a different schedule from collected books. If a listing skips chapters or shows a different volume number, check that it is the licensed edition for your territory before changing the order.

Why the new announcement should remain separate for now

The New York Comic Con stage drew approximately 3,000 attendees, but that figure describes the event audience, not manga sales or readership. The announcement establishes that a Kishimoto-drawn Naruto project exists; it does not establish how long it will run or where it sits relative to Two Blue Vortex. Waiting avoids two common errors: treating a rumor as a published installment and spoiling a future story by assuming its setting.

When Jump Festa 2027 or a later publisher notice supplies a title, format and date, readers can add it to this list with confidence. Until then, the practical order ends with the latest available Two Blue Vortex chapter.

Common order mistakes

  • Starting with Two Blue Vortex: It is Part Two, not a replacement for the first Boruto manga.
  • Treating Scarlet Spring as mandatory: It is a useful transition, but the main narrative remains understandable without it.
  • Assuming Kishimoto is the sole Boruto author: The official credits distinguish creation and supervision, script and art.
  • Using a universal chapter total: Catalogs are regional and update at different times.
  • Placing the new manga by rumor: Its official announcement does not yet establish a title, format or timeline.

The short version for different readers

First-time manga reader

Naruto Chapters 1–700 → Scarlet Spring (optional) → Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Chapters 1–80 → Boruto: Two Blue Vortex.

Reader who wants only the essential serialized route

Naruto Chapters 1–700 → Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Chapters 1–80 → Boruto: Two Blue Vortex.

Reader waiting for the new Kishimoto work

Complete the established sequence first. The new manga is a real official announcement, but its publication and chronology details remain pending until the announced Jump Festa 2027 update or a later publisher notice.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the correct Naruto and Boruto manga reading order?

Read Naruto Chapters 1–700, then optionally read The Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring, followed by Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Chapters 1–80 and Boruto: Two Blue Vortex from Chapter 1 onward.

Sale

  • Naruto is a young shinobi with an incorrigible knack for mischief.

Do I have to read Scarlet Spring?

No. It is a 216-page Kishimoto-written-and-drawn bridge that introduces the next generation, but it is not required to understand the main Boruto manga.

Should I read Two Blue Vortex before Boruto: Naruto Next Generations?

No. Two Blue Vortex is Part Two and follows Chapter 80 of Next Generations. Reading it first reverses the intended sequence.

Is the new Kishimoto Naruto manga called Naruto: Shadow Rising?

That title is not established by the official announcement. The confirmed wording is a new Naruto manga drawn by Masashi Kishimoto; its final title, format, release date and timeline remain pending.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Who writes and draws the Boruto manga?

VIZ credits Kishimoto with creation and supervision and Mikio Ikemoto with art for both Boruto titles. Ukyo Kodachi is credited with the script for Next Generations, so the ongoing manga should not be described as a solo Kishimoto work.

Where can I start Two Blue Vortex in print?

After completing Next Generations Volume 20, begin with Two Blue Vortex Vol. 1. Confirm the regional publisher, language, stock and ISBN because editions vary by territory.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Read Naruto Chapters 1–700, add Scarlet Spring only if you want its next-generation bridge, then read Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Chapters 1–80 and continue with Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. The newly announced Kishimoto manga is official, but its title, release details and place in the timeline are still unconfirmed.
