The three English-language Naruto paperback box sets cover the complete numbered manga run: Box Set 1 contains volumes 1–27, Box Set 2 contains volumes 28–48, and Box Set 3 contains volumes 49–72. Buying all three gives you volumes 1 through 72. The better choice for your collection depends on which volumes you need, whether you want display packaging and premiums, and whether you prefer individual books or official three-in-one editions.
This guide uses the volume ranges and specifications listed by VIZ, with prices noted as catalogue/list prices observed on October 13, 2026. Retail stock, marketplace pricing and the contents of some used boxes can change.

Do the three Naruto box sets complete the English manga?
Yes. The numbered ranges are consecutive and contain every volume in the 72-volume English-language Naruto series:
| Box set | Volumes included | Number of books | Story placement |
|---|---|---|---|
| Naruto Box Set 1 | 1–27 | 27 | First story arc |
| Naruto Box Set 2 | 28–48 | 21 | Beginning of Shippuden |
| Naruto Box Set 3 | 49–72 | 24 | Third and final box set |
| All three sets | 1–72 | 72 | Complete numbered run |
These are paperback collections. They are not alternate story continuities, and there is no gap between volume 27 and volume 28 or between volume 48 and volume 49. If a seller advertises a box with a different range, verify the ISBN before paying.

| Naruto Box Set 3 | 978-1-4215-8334-1 | January 5, 2016 | 6,688 | 9 × 5.5 in | Exclusive premium; item not specified in the description |
Page totals and trim measurements are the figures on the respective VIZ product pages, not measurements of a particular seller’s shipping carton. Each page identifies the books as paperback and gives a Teen rating.
Naruto Box Set 1: volumes 1–27
Box Set 1 starts at volume 1 and runs through volume 27, making it the correct purchase for the series opening and first major arc. It contains 27 paperback volumes and is listed at 5,216 pages with a 10 × 5.5-inch trim specification.
VIZ describes the package as including premium items and a sturdy corrugate display box. The product description does not itemize every premium, so do not assume a particular poster, booklet or figure is present unless the listing or photographs for the copy you are buying show it. For a sealed new copy, match the ISBN 978-1-4215-2582-2; for a used copy, ask the seller whether the display box and premiums remain.
VIZ listed a $289.99 catalogue price when checked on October 13, 2026. Simon & Schuster also displayed a $289.99 list price and notes that retailer prices may vary: official distributor page. Neither figure guarantees a current marketplace offer.
Naruto Box Set 2: volumes 28–48
Box Set 2 contains 21 paperbacks, covering volumes 28 through 48 and the start of Shippuden. VIZ lists 4,168 pages, a 14.5 × 5.5-inch trim specification and a July 7, 2015 release date. Its ISBN-13 is 978-1-4215-8080-7.
This is the only one of the three official product pages that spells out its bonus contents in detail. VIZ says the set includes a mini-comic containing the pilot story and a full-color, double-sided poster. Its product description states: "This set features volumes 28~48 at a substantial savings over buying them individually, along with an exclusive mini-comic containing the pilot story of the series and a full-color, double-sided poster." That is VIZ’s marketing description; it is not an independently calculated, current price comparison.

On October 13, 2026, VIZ displayed a $224.99 catalogue price for this set. Check whether a used listing includes the mini-comic, poster and intact box, because accessories are often removed or damaged separately from the books.

Box Set 3 completes the numbered run with volumes 49 through 72. It contains 24 paperbacks, is listed at 6,688 pages and has a 9 × 5.5-inch trim specification. VIZ gives January 5, 2016 as the release date and 978-1-4215-8334-1 as the ISBN-13.
The publisher describes an exclusive premium but does not identify the item in the product-page description. Treat photographs and the seller’s written inventory as decisive when buying used. A copy can contain all 24 books while still missing the premium or having a crushed display box.
VIZ displayed a $254.99 catalogue price on October 13, 2026. That is a listed price at that time, not a promise of availability or a live price across retailers.
Which format should a collector buy?
VIZ’s catalogue offers three practical formats: box sets, standard single volumes and 3-in-1 omnibus editions. They overlap in story content but solve different collection problems.

| Format | What you receive | Best fit | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Box set | A consecutive run of paperback volumes in a display box, with set-specific premiums | Collectors starting or completing a large run and readers who want matching packaging | Correct volume range, ISBN, box condition and included bonuses |
| Individual paperback | One numbered volume per book; VIZ lists print and digital options | Replacing one missing book, buying selectively or continuing from a partial collection | Exact volume number, paperback versus digital format and edition details |
| 3-in-1 paperback | Three consecutive numbered volumes bound as one book | Readers who want fewer physical books or a compact way to acquire a run | Which three volumes are bundled and the edition’s current price |
The official catalogue establishes that these formats exist, but it does not establish a universal durability advantage or a guaranteed saving for one format. Compare the exact books, price and condition rather than assuming that a thicker omnibus is automatically better value.

How the 3-in-1 editions map to the numbered series
The VIZ Shop catalogue identifies Naruto 3-in-1 editions as an official physical alternative. Its examples make the numbering clear:
- 3-in-1 Volume 2 contains original volumes 4, 5 and 6.
- 3-in-1 Volume 24 contains original volumes 70, 71 and 72.
That means the omnibus number is not the same as the highest original volume inside it. Use the contents list, not just the cover number, when filling a gap. A collector who owns original volumes 1–3 still needs the 3-in-1 edition containing 4–6, not an omnibus labelled “Volume 4.” Likewise, a reader seeking the end of the story should check that the edition includes original volumes 70–72.
VIZ Shop displayed $16.99 for 3-in-1 editions when checked on October 13, 2026. Catalogue prices can vary by edition and change over time; use the current product page at checkout.

A step-by-step buying process
- Inventory what you already own. Write down every original volume number, including duplicates and books that need replacement. If you are starting from zero, decide whether you want the full 1–72 run or only a specific arc.
- Match the missing range to a set. Volumes 1–27 map to Set 1, 28–48 to Set 2 and 49–72 to Set 3. Do not buy a second set merely because its artwork resembles the first one.
- Search by ISBN. Use 978-1-4215-2582-2 for Set 1, 978-1-4215-8080-7 for Set 2 and 978-1-4215-8334-1 for Set 3. ISBN searching filters out individual books, unrelated Naruto merchandise and differently packaged editions.
- Choose the physical format. Select a box set for a grouped run and display box, individual paperbacks for precise replacements, or 3-in-1 books when three-volume bundles fit your shelf and reading plan.
- Check the seller’s contents. For Set 2, look specifically for the mini-comic and double-sided poster. For Sets 1 and 3, ask what the listing means by “premium,” because the publisher pages do not identify every item.
- Inspect condition evidence. Request photographs of the box corners, seals, spine edges, page blocks and bonuses. A complete volume run is not the same as a complete collector’s package.
- Recheck the total at purchase. VIZ catalogue prices and marketplace prices are not interchangeable. Confirm shipping, taxes, return terms and stock immediately before ordering.
Buying used: condition and completeness checks
Used box sets deserve a different inspection than loose single volumes. The books may be present while the collector-facing parts are missing. Ask the seller to confirm all of the following in writing:
- The volume numbers are consecutive and match the advertised set.
- The corrugate display box is included and closes without major crushing, water damage or torn panels.
- Set 2 includes its pilot-story mini-comic and full-color, double-sided poster if those extras matter to you.
- The premium item for Set 1 or Set 3 is identified rather than assumed.
- No volumes have detached covers, severe page staining, writing, removed library labels or extensive spine wear.
- The photographs show the actual copy, not only a stock image.
For an individual replacement, confirm the original volume number on the cover and copyright page. For a 3-in-1 replacement, confirm all three component volumes; an omnibus can look correct while covering a different range than the one you need.

Starting with no books
The simplest complete-run plan is one of each box set. Their ranges are consecutive, so you do not need to reconcile duplicate volumes. Before ordering, decide whether the display boxes and premiums justify buying in three large batches rather than assembling the run through individual or 3-in-1 editions.
Owning volumes 1–27
If your shelf stops at volume 27, Box Set 2 is the exact next range, followed by Box Set 3. Buying Set 1 again would duplicate the opening arc.
Owning volumes 1–48
Box Set 3 supplies the remaining volumes 49–72. Check whether any of your existing books are 3-in-1 editions before ordering, because an omnibus may contain several original volumes you already own.
Owning scattered individual volumes
Create a missing-number list first. A box set can be efficient for a long uninterrupted gap, while individual paperbacks avoid duplicates when only a few numbers are missing. 3-in-1 editions work best when all three component volumes are absent or when you intentionally want to change formats.

Individual Naruto volumes
VIZ lists standard Naruto volumes in paperback and digital formats. The Volume 1 catalogue page identifies ISBN 978-1-56931-900-0, 192 pages, an August 16, 2003 release date and a Teen rating: VIZ Naruto, Vol. 1.
Individual books are the precise option when a collector needs one replacement or wants to buy only selected story sections. Match the format carefully: a digital listing does not fill a physical-shelf gap, and a single paperback does not include box-set premiums.
Physical organization and display decisions
The three box sets have different publisher-listed trim specifications: 10 × 5.5 inches for Set 1, 14.5 × 5.5 inches for Set 2 and 9 × 5.5 inches for Set 3. Because the listed dimensions differ, measure your shelf space rather than assuming the display boxes will occupy identical footprints.

If you remove books from a display box for daily reading, retain an inventory sheet with the set’s volume range and ISBN; this makes it easier to detect a missing book after lending or rearranging shelves.
Common buying mistakes
- Confusing set number with volume number: Set 3 is not volume 3; it contains original volumes 49–72.
- Assuming every premium is documented: Set 1 and Set 3 pages mention premiums without itemizing them.
- Using a stock photo as proof: Used sellers may photograph a complete package while shipping a copy missing accessories.
- Comparing unlike prices: A list price for a new box is not directly comparable with a used single volume or a discounted omnibus.
- Ignoring the edition: Digital, individual paperback and 3-in-1 listings can share similar cover art while representing different physical products.
- Buying by title alone: Search the ISBN and verify the volume range to avoid unrelated Naruto products.
Which purchase makes sense for your collection?
- Choose Box Set 1 when you need volumes 1–27 as a group and want its display packaging and listed premium items.
- Choose Box Set 2 when you need volumes 28–48 and specifically value the documented pilot-story mini-comic and double-sided poster.
- Choose Box Set 3 when you need the concluding volumes 49–72 and are prepared to verify the unspecified premium with the seller.
- Choose individual paperbacks when your gaps are small or irregular and avoiding duplicate volumes matters most.
- Choose 3-in-1 editions when you prefer three numbered volumes in one physical book and have confirmed the exact contents of each omnibus.
The complete box-set sequence is therefore straightforward: Set 1, Set 2 and Set 3 together cover all 72 volumes. The collector’s real decision is whether the packaging and extras are worth buying in grouped ranges, or whether a precisely targeted combination of individual and 3-in-1 editions better matches the books already on your shelf.
