A contemporaneous PS5 review from MeriStation, published September 21, 2021, praised the integration of the story and City and described MyCAREER as improved. It also discussed MyTEAM seasonal content and said the longer-term effects of card-balance changes remained uncertain at the time. If you prefer a basketball game centered on playing matches rather than collection and progression systems, weigh that criticism against the mode’s appeal before choosing NBA 2K22 for MyTEAM.

PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versus older-generation versions
Choose by the console or computer you actually own before comparing editions. The game launched September 10, 2021, for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The new-generation version requires a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S; it is not the version for PS4 or Xbox One.

Is NBA 2K22 worth it?

- Consider it for match play if revised defense, dribbling, shooting, and finishing systems are more important to you than career-hub progression.
- Check your platform carefully if you want The City or specific new-generation features; those are not shared uniformly across versions.
- Think carefully about MyCAREER or MyTEAM if you are sensitive to pacing, collection systems, or microtransactions, which were among reviewers’ criticisms.
