How do you install the original PC disc on a newer Windows computer?
A Microsoft Q&A moderator offered the following as troubleshooting suggestions for an older disc installation. They are not a Microsoft compatibility test, and success is not assured on current Windows versions.

speed.exe. - Ensure the required DirectX 9.0c components are available. The Q&A response points to Microsoft’s June 2010 DirectX End-User Runtimes as an option for legacy components: DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010).
The Q&A lists no confirmed Windows 10 or Windows 11 result. A fan-site search result names Windows 98, Windows 98 SE, Windows ME, Windows 2000 Professional, and Windows XP for the original game, but that listing was not verified against a primary source; treat it as lower-confidence historical information, not a modern compatibility list. Will Need for Speed: Underground run on Windows 10 or 11?
That remains unresolved by the available sources. They provide no validated compatibility matrix, reproducible test results, or reliable modern hardware requirements. Does the original game still have online multiplayer?
The historical EA-hosted forum reply says online support for both Underground games went down in 2010. It does not establish the status of every community, local multiplayer, or other present-day option. The same reply’s LAN and GameRanger note refers specifically to Underground 2, so it is not evidence that those workarounds apply to the first Underground.
