That makes it a strong fit for players who enjoy replaying a combat-focused game and adapting to random drops; its chaos and challenge may be less appealing if you want tightly controlled, consistent runs.
What kind of game is Neon Abyss?
Released July 14, 2020, Neon Abyss is developed by Veewo Games; Steam lists Team17 and Veewo as publishers. It is a 2D action-platform shooter in which you fight through room-based dungeon challenges, collect random drops, and carry persistent unlocks into the game’s broader pool of possibilities.
The premise puts you in the Grim Squad, a force organized by Hades to infiltrate the Abyss and defeat the New Gods. Steam describes it as a “frantic, roguelite action-platformer” combining run-and-gun combat with roguelike mechanics. That is the publisher’s pitch, rather than an independent judgment of how well those systems work. Steam’s game listing and Veewo’s official game page describe the setup and core features.
How do its runs and unlocks work?
Random drops make each run a build experiment
Items grant passive effects, and their effects can stack. The result is a run shaped not just by shooting and movement, but by what you find and how the effects combine. Veewo describes the stacking as having no stated limit; that is the developer’s feature description, not an independently measured claim about balance or how reliably powerful combinations appear.

The dungeon evolves between attempts
Progress also changes the possibilities available in later runs. Veewo says each run can unlock new rooms, items, bosses, special rules, and endings. In practical terms, replay variety comes from both the combinations you assemble in a single attempt and the growing set of content and conditions that can shape future attempts.
What do reviews and player ratings indicate?
Meristation’s August 8, 2020 review described Neon Abyss as a 2D action-platform shooter with roguelike elements, random room-based challenges, and a chaotic, challenging feel. That is a useful dated perspective on the game’s character, not a measure of current critical consensus. Read Meristation’s review.

Which platforms and editions are listed?
Official listings cover PC on Steam, Nintendo Switch, and PS4; Veewo’s official page also shows Xbox among its platform icons. Store availability and bundle contents can vary by region, so verify the listing for your own storefront before buying.
| Store or platform | Edition and included content stated in the listing | Other buyer-relevant details |
|---|---|---|
| Steam (PC) | The Deluxe Edition lists the base game, Alter Ego, Chrono Trap, Lovable Rogues Pack, and soundtrack. The store also lists DLC and a soundtrack separately. | Check your regional Steam listing for current availability and contents. |
| Nintendo Switch (US listing) | The listing names The Lovable Rogues Pack, Alter Ego Pack, and Chrono Trap as DLC items. | Single-system play for one player; TV, tabletop, and handheld modes. The listing says the game is supported on Switch 2 with behavior consistent with Switch. |
| PlayStation Store (US; PS4) | The Deluxe Edition lists the game with Lovable Rogue, Alter Ego, and Chrono Trap DLC. The same add-ons are also listed individually. | The listing does not say the soundtrack is included in this console Deluxe Edition. |
Bundle names and contents are not identical across these listings: for example, Steam’s Deluxe Edition names the soundtrack, while the PlayStation listing does not. Is Neon Abyss worth playing?
Neon Abyss is easiest to recommend to players who enjoy roguelites for their changing runs: adapting to random drops, combining passive effects, and gradually expanding what the dungeon can offer. Its defining appeal is also its main trade-off. Item combinations and evolving content encourage experimentation, but a chaotic, challenging run-based structure will not suit everyone. Store ratings lean positive in the documented snapshots, though they should be read with their platform, sample, and date attached rather than treated as a universal verdict.
