Neopets turned 25 in 2024, and its leadership framed the anniversary as the start of a wider effort to reconnect with players: repair the classic browser game, listen to its community, and extend the brand through new games and licensed products. The company later reported audience growth and anniversary events, but also said in May 2025 that it remained loss-making. Those progress figures are Neopets’ own reports, not independently audited results.
Why the 25th anniversary became a relaunch moment
Neopets dates its launch to 1999, making 2024 its 25th anniversary. In a 2023 announcement, the company described a management buyout following JumpStart’s closure and the consolidation of the two Neopets teams under a unified direction. Neopets said the new organization would control overall brand strategy, raised $4 million from investors in early 2023, and received additional funding connected to the buyout. The change in direction was also a response to what the company said players valued. Neopets wrote, “We want to create games that the Neopets community will love, and that means listening closely to what users have to say.” Its leadership later characterized the anniversary as the beginning of a “transformative journey to revive Neopets.”
What the company planned for the classic site
The restoration agenda covered practical parts of the browser experience as well as content. Neopets named page conversions, bug fixes, better mobile-browser compatibility, customer-support improvements, and exploration of Ruffle, an emulator that can restore some functionality affected by Flash’s end. In its 2023 update, the company said its customer-support ticket backlog had fallen by more than 80%; it also said Ruffle had brought back more than 100 mini games. The scale of the challenge is clear in the company’s own historical comparison. A 2023 anniversary article described 35 million monthly active users in 2005 as the site’s peak, and said its then-current monthly active users, revenue, website ranking, and Google searches had reached five-year highs. What happened to the Metaverse plan
Neopets said community feedback indicated that Neopets Metaverse did not fit what players valued. The company announced a pivot away from that project and described a new mobile social life-simulation concept called World of Neopets. That was a change in direction, not evidence that the new game had shipped.

What Neopets reported about 2024
In a February 5, 2025 review, Neopets said the site reached nearly 250,000 daily active users and more than 400,000 monthly active users in 2024. It described the figures as more than three times growth since it became a small independent studio and the highest in a decade. The cited passage does not explain the measurement methodology, so the figures are best read as company-reported indicators rather than independently validated audience counts. That review also reported the following activity for 2024:
- Instagram followers grew 123% and video views grew 150%, according to Neopets.
- The company said it collaborated with more than 30 partners.
- Neopets reported that its global 25th-birthday event reached 8,000 attendees across 41 cities in 13 countries, and that it appeared at 13 events worldwide.
These measures show the range of the anniversary push, from social channels to in-person gatherings, but they do not by themselves establish the long-term health or profitability of the game.

Neopets’ 2024 review highlighted an Upper Deck Neopets Trading Card Game and PhatMojo blind-box plushies, which the company described as the brand’s first plush launch in over a decade. It said the plushies were sold at Hot Topic, GameStop, BoxLunch, and Claire’s at the time of publication; that historical retailer list is not a guarantee of present availability. The review also previewed a March 2025 Monopoly: Neopets 25th Anniversary Limited Edition, an Upper Deck Battle for Meridell expansion, card-game accessories, a second graphic novel, and an official coloring book. For players interested in the tabletop side, Upper Deck’s 2024 version 1.2 Battledome Trading Card Game rulebook describes play for ages 6 and up, using 50-card decks, Neopet cards, a Rainbow Pool, equipment, and dice. What the May 2025 update says about progress and risk
In a May 22, 2025 community Q&A, Neopets addressed the concern it phrased as “Is Neopets planning a ‘Rugpull’?” The company said the team working on Neopets Classic had more than doubled in size over two years and that website loading speed had improved by 35%. It also said the Classic engineering and site-improvement team was larger than the team handling Neocash releases. These are company statements; the update does not provide independent performance measurements or a detailed method for calculating the speed improvement.
The most important qualification in that update was financial: Neopets said it remained loss-making, despite having had two break-even months. Two months at break-even do not establish sustained profitability, and the Q&A is not an audited financial statement.
