Netflix announced on March 24, 2022, that Boss Fight Entertainment was joining the company as it expanded its in-house games team. Boss Fight’s current company history says it is “now back to operating independently in 2026.” The studio has not publicly explained on that page when or how it became independent again.

What Netflix announced in 2022

Netflix said Boss Fight would add experience building games across genres and strengthen the company’s ability to develop games for its members. At the time, Boss Fight was based in Allen, Texas, and Netflix said the team would continue working from studios in Allen, Austin and Seattle. The announcement identified the studio’s founders as David Rippy (CEO), Bill Jackson (CCO) and Scott Winsett (COO), and said they founded Boss Fight in 2013.

Netflix Games executive Amir Rahimi described the rationale as accelerating Netflix’s ability to provide members with games. Boss Fight’s founders said Netflix’s subscription model, with games offered without ads, would let developers focus on gameplay without worrying about monetization. These were the companies’ stated aims at the time, not evidence of a particular commercial result. Netflix’s March 24, 2022 announcement includes both statements.

How the deal fit Netflix’s games strategy

Netflix’s July 2022 shareholder letter listed Boss Fight alongside Night School Studio and Next Games as acquired studios. Netflix said those acquisitions added expertise in multiple geographies and expanded its internal development capacity. That places Boss Fight within Netflix’s broader effort at the time to build games in-house; the letter does not disclose the price or terms of the Boss Fight transaction. What happened to Boss Fight afterward

Boss Fight’s current official company history describes it as “Originally founded in 2013, acquired by Netflix in 2022, and now back to operating independently in 2026.” This supports saying that the studio considers itself independent again as of 2026. The page does not say when the change occurred, how it was structured, or whether Netflix retained any rights or interests.

The studio’s updates page records founder Bill Jackson appearing on a Netflix Games panel on March 19, 2025, and includes studio and game updates dated 2024. Those entries document a public connection at those times, but do not establish the ownership arrangement in 2025 or explain the later return to independent operation.

What is—and is not—known about the transaction

The official sources establish the announcement, Netflix’s stated strategic rationale and Boss Fight’s current account of its independence. They do not state an acquisition price, a separation price, the separation date or the terms of any continuing relationship. No deal-performance figure is provided, so the announcement and later company history should not be read as proof of the transaction’s financial or commercial outcome.
