If neroscsi.dll is missing, Nero Burning ROM cannot load one of its application components. The safest repair is to restore Nero from its official installer, not to download neroscsi.dll from a random DLL website.
Which fix applies to you
Use this list to choose the right repair:
- Nero stopped launching after an uninstall, reinstall, or update: repair or reinstall the same Nero edition.
- The file disappeared after an antivirus scan: check Windows Security Protection history before reinstalling anything.
- You moved Nero’s executable files to another computer or folder: reinstall the complete Nero application.
- The message names
MSVCP140.dll,VCRUNTIME140.dll, orapi-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll: repair the Microsoft Visual C++ x86 runtime. - Several Windows applications are also failing: run DISM and System File Checker later in this guide.
- The problem began after a driver or system change: use System Restore or review recent driver changes.
- You are considering

What is neroscsi.dll
neroscsi.dll is identified as “Nero Library,” a component associated with Nero Burning ROM. File records attribute it to Ahead Software AG, the former name associated with Nero AG.
It is not part of Windows, DirectX, .NET, or the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable. You should not normally expect to find it in C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64.

Historical third-party file records identify neroscsi.dll as a 32-bit Nero module. That matters because a 32-bit Nero application normally loads its supporting DLLs from the Nero installation directory, even when it runs on 64-bit Windows. The Windows architecture alone does not determine which DLL Nero needs.
The exact Nero release that uses this file cannot be established from current official Nero documentation. Older Nero Burning ROM installations are the most likely source.
Errors caused by a missing neroscsi.dll
You may see wording such as:
- “This application failed to start because neroscsi.dll was not found.”
- “The file neroscsi.dll is missing or corrupted.”
- “A required component is missing: neroscsi.dll.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because neroscsi.dll was not found.”
- “Could not load neroscsi.dll.”
The exact wording can vary by Windows version and Nero release. The important clue is the program named in the window title and the executable path shown in Task Manager or a shortcut’s properties.
If another application is named instead of Nero, do not replace files in that application’s folder based only on the filename. A similarly named DLL may belong to a different program.
Fix 1: Repair or reinstall Nero Burning ROM
This is the primary fix. A proper Nero installation restores neroscsi.dll beside the executable and installs the other files that the DLL may require.
First, confirm which Nero installation is affected
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Details.
- Try launching Nero Burning ROM.
- If a Nero process appears briefly, right-click it and select Open file location.
- Note the folder path and the executable name.
- Close the error window and Task Manager.
You can also inspect a shortcut:
- Right-click the Nero shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Read the Target field on the Shortcut tab.
- Select Open File Location if available.
Do not copy neroscsi.dll from another computer into this folder. Different Nero generations can contain incompatible files.
Uninstall the damaged Nero installation
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- Find the Nero product in Programs and Features.
- Select it and choose Uninstall.
- Follow the removal wizard.
- Restart Windows.
Before uninstalling, save any Nero serial number, account information, project files, or personal settings you may need. Do not delete unrelated folders manually at this stage.
Install Nero from an official source
Download the Nero Burning ROM installer from Nero’s official product or support download pages. Choose the edition that matches your license and the Windows version supported by that release.
Nero provides both online and offline installer packages for supported product generations. An offline installer can be useful when the online setup repeatedly fails or when the computer has unreliable internet access.

After downloading:
- Right-click the installer.
- Select Properties.
- If an Unblock checkbox appears on the General tab, select it and click Apply.
- Right-click the installer again.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Complete the installation.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch Nero from its newly installed shortcut.
How to tell whether this worked
The repair succeeded if Nero opens without the missing-DLL message and can reach its normal start screen. Do not judge the repair solely by whether neroscsi.dll is visible in a particular folder. The installation path varies by product generation, and the program may use additional files that are not obvious from File Explorer.
If the installer reports that a newer or older Nero installation is already present, continue with the clean-removal steps below instead of mixing files manually.
Fix 2: Remove conflicting Nero remnants with Nero FirstAidKit
An incomplete uninstall can leave files or registry entries that interfere with the next Nero installation. Nero provides its own Nero FirstAidKit for removing traces of previous Nero programs.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Use it only after saving your license information and personal Nero data. It removes Nero-related files and registry entries, so it is more destructive than an ordinary uninstall.
- Close Nero and all Nero-related processes.
- Download Nero FirstAidKit from Nero’s official support instructions.
- Read Nero’s instructions for the version of FirstAidKit you downloaded.
- Run the tool as administrator.
- Allow it to remove old Nero traces.
- Restart Windows when prompted.
- Install the correct Nero edition from Nero’s official installer.
- Restart again before testing the program.
This is the right step when a normal uninstall completes but a fresh installation still reports that files are in use, an older version is present, or installation components cannot be updated.
Fix 3: Check whether Windows Security quarantined the file
Security software can remove or quarantine a DLL. Do not immediately turn off protection or add a broad exclusion.
- Open Start.
- Type Windows Security.
- Open the app.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent actions involving Nero or
neroscsi.dll. - Expand the detection to view its path and detection name.
If the file came from an official Nero installer and the detection is verified as a false positive, Windows Security may provide a Restore or Allow on device action. Microsoft warns that restoring a quarantined file can cause it to be detected again unless it is explicitly allowed.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Use this decision carefully:
- If the file came from a random DLL archive, do not restore it. Remove it and reinstall Nero from an official source.
- If Defender repeatedly quarantines a file from the official installer, scan the installer and investigate the detection name.
- Do not add a blanket antivirus exclusion for the entire Windows folder, disk, or program files directory.
- If the installer itself is suspicious or modified, obtain a clean installer rather than forcing the DLL back into place.
After restoring a verified file, launch Nero. If it is quarantined again, stop restoring it repeatedly and contact Nero support or investigate the installer.
Fix 4: Install the correct Visual C++ runtime only when named
A missing neroscsi.dll is not normally a Visual C++ problem. However, Nero may display a separate dependency error at the same time.

Look at the complete message. Microsoft runtime names include:
MSVCP140.dllVCRUNTIME140.dllapi-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll
Nero’s own guidance for affected applications specifically points users toward the x86 Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable. A 32-bit Nero program can require the x86 package on 64-bit Windows.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Open Microsoft’s official Latest Supported Visual C++ Redistributable Downloads page.
- Download the supported x86 package.
- Run the installer.
- Choose Repair if it is already installed, or install it if it is absent.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch Nero again.
Do not assume that installing only the x64 package satisfies a 32-bit Nero application. If the error names a different runtime, follow that error rather than installing unrelated packages.
If Nero still specifically reports neroscsi.dll after the runtime repair, return to the official Nero reinstall. The Visual C++ package does not supply Nero’s private DLL.
Fix 5: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Use Windows repair commands when other Windows applications are also failing, Windows updates are damaged, or system corruption is suspected. These commands are not the primary way to restore neroscsi.dll.
System File Checker repairs protected Windows components. It cannot reliably reconstruct a missing third-party Nero file.
Recommended Free Tools
Run DISM first
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Enter this command:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Press Enter.
- Wait for the operation to finish.
- Restart Windows if DISM reports that a restart is required.
Run System File Checker
Open an elevated Command Prompt again if necessary and enter:
sfc /scannow
Press Enter and wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
Possible results include:
- Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations: no protected Windows corruption was found.
- Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them: restart and test Nero.
- Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them: review the DISM result, restart, and run SFC again. If the issue continues, use Microsoft’s repair guidance.
Outbyte PC Repair can reduce the manual work of repeatedly hunting through Windows repair results; its free scan shows what it identifies, while repair actions require the full version. Reinstalling Nero remains the definitive fix when the missing file belongs to Nero rather than Windows.
After DISM and SFC complete, reinstall Nero if neroscsi.dll is still missing. These commands do not install Nero files.

Fix 6: Check architecture and avoid mixing DLLs
A 64-bit Windows installation can run a 32-bit Nero application normally. The relevant match is between Nero and its own DLLs, not simply between the DLL and Windows.
Keep these points in mind:
- Do not copy a 64-bit replacement into a 32-bit Nero folder.
- Do not copy a 32-bit DLL into
System32orSysWOW64. - Do not combine files from different Nero versions.
- Do not move only
Nero.exeor another executable to a new computer. - Do not rename another DLL to
neroscsi.dll. - Do not use a DLL extracted from an unrelated Nero edition.
If you are unsure which Nero build is installed, uninstall it and install the matching product from Nero’s official installer rather than trying to identify individual DLL versions.
Fix 7: Review drivers only when the problem followed a hardware change
A storage-driver problem can prevent an older optical-disc application from working correctly, but it is not the usual cause of a missing neroscsi.dll message. Do not begin by replacing random drivers.
Review Device Manager if Nero began failing after a motherboard, storage, chipset, or optical-drive change:
- Press Windows key + X.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand DVD/CD-ROM drives.
- Expand Storage controllers.
- Look for a yellow warning icon.
- Right-click the affected device and select Properties.
- Read the status on the General tab.
- Open the Driver tab and note the provider and date.
- Use Update Driver only with a driver obtained from the computer or hardware manufacturer.
- Restart Windows and test Nero.
Do not uninstall a storage controller unless you have a manufacturer-supported recovery plan. If Device Manager shows no error, driver replacement is unlikely to restore a missing application DLL.
Outbyte Driver Updater can show which drivers it identifies as stale, while installing drivers requires the full version; this avoids manually comparing versions across many hardware pages, but it is not a substitute for reinstalling Nero.
Fix 8: Use System Restore after a recent change
If Nero worked until a recent software installation, driver update, or system change, System Restore may reverse that change without affecting personal files.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point created before Nero stopped working.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the changes.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore does not replace a proper Nero installation. If the missing file remains after the rollback, reinstall Nero from its official installer.

Random DLL download sites create several problems:
- The file may contain malware or unwanted modifications.
- It may come from the wrong Nero release.
- It may have the wrong architecture.
- It may require other files that are still missing.
- It may be placed in the wrong directory.
- It does not repair a damaged Nero installation.
- It can make antivirus detections harder to investigate.
System32 is not a universal DLL drop location. A Nero-owned library should normally be installed and loaded as part of Nero, from the application’s own files.
Should you use regsvr32?
Normally, no.
Microsoft documents regsvr32 as a tool for registering self-registering OLE and ActiveX DLLs. Many DLLs are not self-registerable. A private Nero library is normally loaded by Nero itself, not registered globally with Windows.

Running:
regsvr32 neroscsi.dll
may produce an error stating that the module was loaded but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found. Even if the command appears to complete, it does not repair missing Nero files or install their dependencies.
Do not use regsvr32 unless Nero’s own documentation specifically instructs you to register a particular component.
If the error remains after reinstalling Nero
Collect these details before seeking further support:
- The exact Nero product and edition.
- The complete error text.
- Your Windows version.
- The Nero executable path.
- Whether
neroscsi.dllexists beside the Nero executable. - Whether Windows Security quarantined the file.
- Whether the error names another DLL.
- Whether Nero was installed from an official installer.
- Whether the problem began after an update, uninstall, driver change, or disk problem.
At that point, the likely causes include an unsupported legacy Nero build, a damaged installer, a dependency error being misidentified, or a security product removing the file.
FAQ
Is neroscsi.dll a Windows file?
No. Available file records identify it with Nero Burning ROM, not with Windows. It should not normally be restored through System32 or SFC.
Which program uses neroscsi.dll?
It is associated primarily with Nero Burning ROM installations, especially older ones. The exact Nero release cannot be confirmed from current official Nero documentation.
Is neroscsi.dll safe?
The genuine file belongs with a legitimate Nero installation. A file with the same name downloaded from an unknown source cannot be assumed to be genuine. Verify the installer and file provenance instead of trusting the filename.
Do I need the 32-bit or 64-bit version?
Historical file records identify neroscsi.dll as a 32-bit Nero module. A 32-bit Nero installation normally needs its matching 32-bit files, even on 64-bit Windows. Install the correct Nero build rather than selecting a replacement DLL manually.
Can I copy the file to System32?
No. That is not the correct repair. Install or repair Nero so the program receives the DLL and its related files in the expected application directory.
Is this fixed by installing Visual C++?
Only if the complete error also names a Microsoft runtime file such as MSVCP140.dll or api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll. Visual C++ does not provide neroscsi.dll.
Will SFC restore neroscsi.dll?
No. SFC repairs protected Windows components. It is not a reliable repair method for a private Nero application library.
What is the safest fix?
Uninstall the damaged Nero installation, restart Windows, and reinstall the matching Nero edition from Nero’s official installer. Use Nero FirstAidKit if old Nero remnants prevent a clean reinstall.
