A December 2024 report said the Nintendo Switch 2 could arrive between June and early July 2025. That was a rumor, not a Nintendo announcement. Nintendo later confirmed the console’s release date as June 5, 2025, settling the question.
What the December 2024 leak claimed
On December 6, 2024, BGR published Chris Smith’s article, “New Nintendo Switch 2 leaks may include a release date.” BGR attributed the June-to-early-July 2025 window to Nintenduo, which said the information came from six development studios. That is BGR’s account of Nintenduo’s reporting; it does not independently verify what those studios said. BGR’s December 2024 report also acknowledged that the reports could be wrong.

The claim was therefore best understood as a reported release window, not a confirmed day. BGR also discussed purported controller and accessory sightings, but those reports did not establish a release date or confirm specific accessories.
When Nintendo confirmed the release date
Nintendo announced on April 2, 2025 that Nintendo Switch 2 would be released on June 5, 2025. The official date falls within the window BGR had reported, but that overlap does not make the earlier leak an official announcement. For the launch date, Nintendo’s announcement is the controlling source: Nintendo Switch 2 to be released on June 5, 2025.

Does the 2026 bundle announcement change the launch date?
No. On October 6, 2026, Nintendo announced a Japanese-language Nintendo Switch 2 bundle for Japan only, scheduled for November 12, 2026. The bundle is priced at 63,980 yen and includes a system and a download code for a choice of three games. It is a later regional bundle announcement, not a revised console launch date or evidence of availability in other regions. Details are in Nintendo’s Japan-only bundle announcement.
