Yes. Monster Hunter Wilds’ second open beta (OBT2) ran on the same older build as the first beta, so its performance issues could still be present. Capcom said the launch improvements were not included and warned that neither beta represented the released game.
Why OBT2 could still have performance issues
Capcom clarified that OBT2 reused the OBT1 build, with additional content such as Arkveld and Gypceros but without the performance adjustments being prepared for launch. The added monsters did not make it a newer performance test. Capcom said, “please don’t expect any performance differences there,” and advised players not to use either beta to set expectations for the final game. Read Capcom’s build clarification on Steam.

That answers the beta-specific question, but it does not show how the released game would perform. The available sources do not establish a representative average frame rate for OBT2 or the prevalence of player complaints across platforms.
What Capcom said about performance after the beta
PC: use the benchmark as an estimate, not a promise
Capcom recommended its free Monster Hunter Wilds Benchmark as a more useful launch indicator for PC players than the old beta builds. The tool runs a demonstration and scores system performance; users can adjust settings to better reflect their intended configuration. Capcom also cautioned that the benchmark cannot guarantee actual game performance. Treat its score as guidance for your PC setup, not a promised in-game frame rate. See Capcom’s benchmark guidance.
#1 Best Overall
- Wild New Adventure – Monster Hunter Wilds follows the story of a special Research Commission investigating the Forbidden Lands. Fully voiced for the first time in the series, the hunter is joined in their journey by a colorful cast of characters, including a Palico partner, Guild-appointed Handler Alma, trusty smithy Gemma, and the mysterious child Nata. Together, the team ventures into an unexplored new frontier where surprises await around every corner.
- A Living World – The Forbidden Lands spans multiple biomes with dynamic identities, such as the Windward Plains and Scarlet Forest, where the ecosystems shift between vibrant seasons brimming with life, and unforgiving climates where monsters fight over limited resources. Changes in the landscape will impact the creatures that live there and push hunters to adapt as well.
- New Monsters and Wildlife – Monster Hunter Wilds features a variety of new creatures, ranging from herds of small species to large monsters – some of which roam the Forbidden Lands in packs. Every creature hunters encounter in the wild has carved out a special place in its habitat and possesses unique attacks and behaviors.
- Players can also now ride atop the Seikret, an agile new mount enabling hunters to traverse difficult terrain, perform actions like sharpening weapons on the move, and switch between two weapons while out on hunts!
- Evolved Hunting Action – The series’ acclaimed action-packed gameplay is back and more exciting than ever! Hunters can look forward to tracking down monsters with an array of new moves, special abilities, equipment, and more. The action also now flows seamlessly from cutscenes to gameplay, resulting in a new level of immersion.
PS5: launch modes had stated frame-rate targets
In pre-launch information, Capcom described three PS5 graphics modes. These are stated targets, not independent measurements or guarantees that every scene holds the listed rate.
| PS5 mode | Capcom’s stated target | Display note |
|---|---|---|
| Prioritize Resolution | 30 FPS | Capcom did not state a special display requirement. |
| Balanced | 40 FPS | For displays capable of 120 Hz output. |
| Prioritize Framerate | 60 FPS | Capcom did not state a special display requirement. |
Capcom presented these modes as launch information in its PlayStation Blog update. They describe intended mode targets, not a single result applicable to every platform or scene.

- Hunt giant nature-infused bests – Survive their attacks, learn from their behaviors, and use your Karakuri and your weapons in combination to cut these creatures down to size.
- Craft your hunting grounds – You are the only one in Azuma able to wield the Karakuri technology.
- Hunt in a pack, or be a lone wolf – In WILD HEARTS you can face the Kemono alone or unite with up to two friends (or other players) to stalk and hunt your prey.
- Gear up to hunt, hunt to gear up – Create your character, then gather materials from each hunt and build an array of armor and weapons.
What independent PS5 coverage observed
Push Square’s February 2025 hands-on coverage reported that the PS5 and PS5 Pro launch build performed much better than the beta, while still noting image-quality and frame-rate tradeoffs between modes. That is the outlet’s assessment of its hands-on experience, not a controlled comparison across all platforms or a guarantee of uniform performance. Read Push Square’s assessment.

- For OBT2 itself: it retained the older OBT1 build, so it could still show the beta’s performance problems.
- For the released game: the beta is not proof that launch performance would be the same; Capcom explicitly said the launch adjustments were absent.
- For PC: Capcom’s benchmark offers a more relevant estimate than the old beta, but cannot promise actual performance.
- For PS5: Capcom published mode targets, and Push Square reported an improvement over beta alongside remaining tradeoffs.
