Roblox’s newer parental controls let families move beyond an all-or-nothing approach. Parents can set a general content boundary, then block specific games or people, approve selected games, review the child’s most-played experiences, and manage communication, time, spending, and private-server access.
Roblox now gives parents more precise ways to shape a child’s experience than a single content-rating setting. A parent can set a broad maturity ceiling, then personalize the result by blocking or approving individual experiences, reviewing the child’s most-played games, managing specific friends, limiting communication, setting screen-time and spending rules, and controlling access to private servers.

These tools arrived in stages. Roblox added three particularly targeted controls on April 2, 2025: blocking individual friends, blocking individual experiences, and reviewing the 20 experiences in which a child spent the most time during the previous week. Roblox’s newer age-based Roblox Kids and Roblox Select accounts, introduced in 2026 and rolling out by region, add further defaults and game-approval options.

Broad content limits versus individual exceptions
The most useful way to understand Roblox’s parental controls is to separate general rules from exceptions:

- With broad game support, the Logitech Gamepad F310 works with old standbys to today's biggest titles, so it's easy to set up and use with your favorite games.
- Profiler software allows the gamepad to be programmed to perform keyboard and mouse commands for games without gamepad support.* * Requires software installation.
- A familiar control layout that doesn't require a learning curve to be able to use, with all the same buttons as on an Xbox 360.
- The unique floating D-pad rests on four switches-instead of a single pivot point-making it responsive to quick changes in direction.
- The six-foot cord lets you lean back and play a comfortable distance from your PC monitor.
- Content maturity sets the general level of experiences a child may access.
- Blocked experiences let a parent prohibit a particular game even if its maturity label would otherwise allow it.
- Approved experiences can let a child play a specific game outside the default catalog on Roblox Kids and Roblox Select accounts, except for Restricted experiences.
That distinction matters because a maturity setting is not a complete family policy. A parent might be comfortable with a particular rating overall but still want to block one game, or might want to approve one specific game after reviewing it personally. Roblox’s labels currently include Minimal, Mild, Moderate, and Restricted. Restricted experiences are limited to age-verified users who meet Roblox’s adult-age requirements.
How to link a parent account
The parent dashboard is available only after a parent account with parent privileges is linked to the child’s Roblox account. Once linked, the parent can manage controls from the parent’s own device instead of repeatedly signing in as the child.
- Sign in to the child’s Roblox account and open Settings.
- Go to Parental Controls.
- Select Add parent.
- Create or use the parent’s Roblox account.
- Complete Roblox’s age-verification step.
- Accept the linking request from the parent account.
- Open the child’s control dashboard from the parent account.
Roblox says age verification may require a government-issued ID, a credit card, or facial age estimation where that option is supported. The exact method and available settings can vary by region. If the parent dashboard does not appear, first confirm that the accounts are linked and that the parent account has completed the required verification.

Content maturity
Use the maturity setting to establish the family’s default content boundary. This is the broadest control and should usually be configured before reviewing individual games. It reduces the range of experiences available to the child, but it does not replace checking particular games or discussing what is appropriate for the child.
Block or approve individual experiences
A parent can search for a specific Roblox experience and block it from the parental-control area, regardless of its maturity label. The child can request permission to unblock it, but children under 13 cannot remove the parent’s block independently.
For Roblox Kids and Roblox Select accounts, parents can also approve a particular game that is outside the account’s normal catalog. This creates a useful middle ground between allowing an entire maturity category and banning it completely. Restricted experiences remain excluded from this approval pathway.
Review the 20 games played most often
Roblox can show the 20 experiences in which the child spent the most time during the previous week, sorted by total time. This is not a guarantee that the games are suitable; it is a practical review queue. Parents can open the list, discuss unfamiliar games with the child, and block an experience directly if it conflicts with the family’s rules.

Reviewing it weekly is more informative than relying only on the games the child mentions.
Manage friends and connections
Parents can review the child’s connections and block or report specific users. The 2025 update made this more granular: a parent can block an individual person from the child’s friends list and prevent the child from adding that person again without parental permission.

A blocked user cannot directly chat with the child or add the child again without permission. Children under 13 can request that a parent reverse the decision, but they cannot remove the parent’s block themselves. Blocking is useful when a particular interaction is concerning, but parents should still explain why the connection was restricted and how the child can report future problems.
Control communication
Depending on the child’s age, account type, region, and Roblox’s age checks, parents can manage game chat, direct chat, friends chat, and some party settings. These settings should be reviewed separately from the friends list: a child may have an approved friend but still need tighter communication permissions.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteThere is an important limitation. Roblox’s platform-level communication controls do not necessarily govern chat systems that individual game creators build independently inside their experiences. A parent should therefore treat Roblox’s settings as one layer of protection, not proof that every conversation inside every game is covered.
Limit sensitive-issue experiences
Parents can manage access to experiences primarily themed around current sensitive social, political, or religious issues. Roblox says users under 13 are blocked from this category by default unless a parent enables access.
This category is separate from the general maturity setting. Check it explicitly if the family has a rule about these themes, rather than assuming the general content level handles every sensitive topic.
Control private servers and visibility
Parents can limit whether the child may use private servers or join private servers through connections. These settings affect how a child enters an experience and who may be present, so they are worth checking even when public-game access is allowed.
Set a daily screen-time limit
A parent can set a daily Roblox screen-time limit. Roblox says that once the limit is reached, the child cannot continue using Roblox for the rest of that day.
Roblox’s limit is specific to Roblox. It should not be treated as a whole-device screen-time rule covering video apps, browsers, consoles, or other games. If the child plays on a console, phone, tablet, or computer shared with other family members, device-level controls may still be needed.
Set spending limits and notifications
Parents can set a monthly Roblox spending limit and receive spending notifications. These controls help a family establish a predictable budget, but they have boundaries:

- The Roblox spending limit does not affect gift-card redemption.
- The limit may not apply to every console spending path.
- Console-level purchase controls may therefore be necessary in addition to Roblox’s own settings.
Parents should check the payment settings on every platform the child uses and enable notifications even when a spending limit is in place. A limit and an alert serve different purposes: the limit constrains some purchases, while the alert helps the parent notice account activity.

What the April 2025 tools added
The April 2, 2025 update focused on targeted intervention rather than another broad category setting.
| Tool | How it works | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Block a friend | Block one person from the child’s friends list and prevent a new add without parental permission. | Parents can respond to a specific relationship instead of disabling all connections. |
| Block an experience | Search for and block one game from the parental-control area. | A single unsuitable game can be restricted without lowering access to every game at that maturity level. |
| View top 20 experiences | See the games where the child spent the most time during the previous week, ranked by total time. | Parents get an activity-led list of games to review instead of guessing what the child plays. |
For children under 13, a request can be made to unblock a person or experience, but the child cannot independently undo the parent’s block. That preserves the parent’s decision while leaving a route for discussion and reconsideration.
What changed with Roblox Kids and Roblox Select in 2026
Roblox announced age-based account categories in April 2026. Roblox Kids is intended for ages 5–8, while Roblox Select is intended for ages 9–15. Roblox said these accounts began rolling out in early June 2026, but availability, exact features, game catalogs, and defaults can vary by region and account status.
Roblox Kids: ages 5–8
Roblox Kids accounts are limited to Minimal- and Mild-rated games that pass Roblox’s additional selection process. Communication is disabled by default. For age-checked users, a parent can provide permission for communication where supported.
Parents can also approve specific games, including some Moderate-rated games or games outside the default Roblox Kids catalog, except Restricted experiences. Roblox describes additional catalog review for younger users, including developer verification, further content evaluation and rating, and restrictions on categories such as sensitive issues, social hangouts, and free-form drawing games by default.
Roblox Select: ages 9–15
Roblox Select accounts can access games rated up to Moderate when those games pass Roblox’s selection process. Their communication defaults differ from Roblox Kids, so parents should not assume that the settings for an older child match the settings for a 5-to-8-year-old.
The 2026 expansion is particularly significant because it extends individual-game blocking, direct-chat management, and approval of games outside the default catalog through age 15.
Roblox also said it planned to move toward the International Age Rating Coalition framework later in 2026, with region-specific systems such as ESRB in the United States and PEGI in much of Europe and the United Kingdom. This was described as a planned transition; it should not be read as evidence that every account had already moved to the new rating framework.

How parental control changes as the child gets older
Roblox does not keep the parent-child balance identical at every age. The handoff of control is gradual:
| Age | Practical account-control picture |
|---|---|
| 5–8 | Roblox Kids defaults emphasize Minimal and Mild experiences that pass additional selection. Communication is off by default, and parents can approve specific eligible games. |
| 9–12 | Parents can manage maturity, sensitive experiences, allowed and blocked games, friends, chat, private-server visibility, screen time, spending, and inventory visibility. |
| 13–15 | The child gradually takes over some privacy settings, screen-time settings, and user blocking. The parent can still manage direct-chat settings and approve or block specific games, and can continue viewing activity such as friends, screen-time insights, and top games. Roblox spending limits no longer apply at age 13, although spending notifications can remain enabled. |
| 16–17 | The teen gains more control over personal settings, while a linked parent can still view certain activity information, including friends, screen time, and spending activity. |
| 18 | Roblox says the child account is automatically unlinked from the parent account. |
The exact handoff and defaults may differ by region. Parents should check the current dashboard after an age transition instead of assuming that an earlier rule remains unchanged.
A sensible first-day setup checklist
- Link and verify the parent account. Do this before trying to configure individual settings.
- Review the top 20 experiences. Start with what the child actually played during the previous week.
- Set the content-maturity ceiling. Choose the level that fits the child, not merely the level that allows the most games.
- Review sensitive-issue access. Confirm whether these experiences should remain blocked.
- Inspect the friends and connections list. Block or report specific users when appropriate.
- Configure chat and party settings. Remember that creator-built communication features may not be covered.
- Decide on private-server access. Consider whether joining through connections fits the family’s rules.
- Set a daily Roblox time limit. Add device-level limits if the family wants a broader screen-time boundary.
- Set a monthly spending limit and notifications. Also review the console or mobile platform’s purchase controls.
- Block or approve individual games. Use these controls for exceptions rather than repeatedly changing the global maturity setting.
- Schedule a recurring review. Recheck top games, friends, chat, and settings after age changes or new games.
What these controls cannot do
Roblox’s settings are not a substitute for supervision or conversations about online behavior. They work alongside Roblox’s built-in safety systems, but they cannot tell a parent everything about a child’s experience or govern every feature created by an individual developer.
Parents should explain how to report a user or game, how to leave an uncomfortable conversation, and what information should never be shared. Ask the child to show unfamiliar games and explain who they play with. The goal is not only to block problems after they appear, but also to give the child a clear response when something feels unsafe.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFinally, review controls after an account changes age category, after a major Roblox update, and whenever the child starts using another device or console. Availability and defaults are region-dependent, and a setting that is visible for one account may not appear for another.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I set up Roblox parental controls?
Open the child’s Roblox account, go to Settings → Parental Controls → Add parent, then create or sign in to the parent account and complete Roblox’s age-verification step. After the link is accepted, manage settings from the parent dashboard.
Can parents block one Roblox game without blocking all games?
Yes. A parent can search for and block an individual experience from the parental-control area. Children under 13 can request permission to unblock it but cannot remove the parent’s block themselves.
Can I see which Roblox games my child plays most?
Roblox can show the 20 experiences where the child spent the most time during the previous week, sorted by total time. Parents can use this as a review list and block a game if necessary.
Do Roblox parental controls block every type of chat?
Roblox’s platform controls may not cover chat systems independently developed inside individual experiences. Parents should review each game’s behavior and discuss safe communication with the child.
When does a child gain more control over Roblox settings?
Roblox says the child account is automatically unlinked from the parent account at age 18. Control also shifts gradually at ages 13 and 16, while age-based account categories begin at ages 5–8 and 9–15.
The Bottom Line
Start with the linked parent dashboard, set a general maturity level, then use the more precise tools—top-game review, individual game and friend blocks, chat and private-server rules, screen-time limits, and spending notifications—to handle the exceptions. Recheck the settings as the child reaches 9, 13, 16, and 18, because Roblox gradually shifts control to the child.
