A new Super Smash Bros. game for Nintendo Switch 2 has not been officially announced. A September 2026 report relays a leaker’s claim that a new entry is in development, but the claim remains unconfirmed. No new fighters or release date have been established by the sources available as of October 8, 2026.
Is a new Super Smash Bros. game confirmed for Switch 2?
No. Nintendo’s February 2026 investor presentation lists first-party Switch 2 games planned for 2026 and beyond, but does not name a new Super Smash Bros. The presentation says its lineup is planned and titles or dates may change; its omission is not proof that no project is in development.

No new characters can be named from the available evidence. The linked rumor does not substantiate a roster, and Nintendo has not announced a new game in the cited lineup. Treat specific fighter names circulating elsewhere as speculation unless they are supported by a reliable, attributable source or an official announcement.

Does the new game have a release date?
No release date or window is confirmed. The Nintendo lineup does not announce one, and the linked report does not establish a schedule. Years such as 2027 or 2028 should not be treated as forecasts based on these sources.
Is Masahiro Sakurai involved?
Nintendo identified Masahiro Sakurai as director of the Super Smash Bros. series in its Kirby Air Riders announcement. That announcement does not say he is working on a new Smash game, so his involvement in a Switch 2 entry is unconfirmed.

What is happening with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate?
Ultimate remains the existing Super Smash Bros. entry for Nintendo Switch. Nintendo’s support page records version 13.0.5, released September 1, 2026, which fixes behavior involving invalid data sent or received in online battles. This update applies to Ultimate; it is not evidence of a sequel announcement. Nintendo’s update history lists the version details.
Players looking for the current game can find it on Nintendo’s official Super Smash Bros. Ultimate product page. That is the existing Switch title, not a rumored Switch 2 release.
