New World: Aeternum launched for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on October 15, 2024, alongside its PC release on Steam. Players on all three platforms can play together, but character progression does not transfer between platforms. The game is no longer sold: Amazon Games delisted it on January 15, 2026, and says its servers are scheduled to shut down on January 31, 2027.
What platforms did New World: Aeternum launch on?
The October 15, 2024 release brought New World: Aeternum to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, as well as PC via Steam. Amazon Games had announced the date on June 7, 2024, and confirmed the game’s availability in its launch-day release.

The June announcement described the release as an enhanced action RPG featuring real-time combat and online cross-platform play. Launch features included a 10-player raid, solo end-game trials, a revamped leveling experience, new archetypes, and controller-focused options such as target locking and aim assist. Those are the features Amazon Games announced; they are not an independent assessment of the game.
Amazon Games listed historical U.S. launch prices of $59.99 for the Standard Edition and $79.99 for the Deluxe Edition. These were June 2024 prices, not current offers: the game was delisted in 2026 and is no longer available for purchase.

Can you play with friends on other platforms?
Yes. PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S players can play together through cross-play. The setting is on by default, and the official support page says cross-play also enables players to talk and trade across platforms. Amazon Games’ cross-play support page
Platform-only worlds are available for PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S players. They are not visible while cross-play is enabled, so players seeking those worlds need to turn cross-play off. A platform-only world is separate from the shared cross-play population.

Does cross-play progression carry over between platforms?
No. Cross-play lets you join friends on other systems, but it does not let you move a character or its progress between PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Progress remains tied to the platform you are playing on. If you want to keep using the same character, choose the platform on which you intend to play.
What happened to PC owners’ expansion access?
At launch, PC players who owned both New World and the Rise of the Angry Earth expansion were eligible for the Aeternum update at no additional cost. Players who owned only the base game could continue playing its content, but needed the expansion to access all Aeternum content under the launch-era rules.

Amazon Games later made Rise of the Angry Earth free for PC players in October 2025. That later change superseded the launch-era expansion-access requirement for PC players; it does not change the separate rule that character progression does not carry across platforms.
Can you still buy or play New World: Aeternum?
Amazon Games delisted New World: Aeternum on January 15, 2026, and says it can no longer be purchased. People who already bought it can continue playing on the platform where they purchased it until the planned server shutdown on January 31, 2027. The company says in-game currency purchases would stop beginning July 20, 2026; it also said there would be no new content or further server merges, while bug and performance monitoring would continue. The official server-status page showed “Last updated: October 7, 2026 at 8:38:59 AM Pacific Daylight Time” when checked for this article. That timestamp indicates the page had been refreshed shortly before October 8, 2026; it is not a guarantee that every realm is available without interruption. New World server status

- Playing with friends: Cross-play supports groups spanning PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
- Platform-only worlds: These are separate from cross-play worlds and require cross-play to be turned off to see them.
- Character continuity: Progress does not transfer between platforms, so select the platform where you want that character to remain.
- Access now: New purchases are unavailable after the January 15, 2026 delisting. Continued play is for existing owners and is scheduled to end with the servers on January 31, 2027.
At the June 2024 announcement, Amazon Games Vice President Christoph Hartmann said, “Listening to player feedback is fundamental to how we make games, and we know New World: Aeternum delivers on the promise of a fresh and compelling New World experience that players can enjoy together across platforms.” This was the company’s launch messaging.
