New World players are asking Amazon Games to let the community keep the game running after its official servers close. A Change.org petition calls for either a release of dedicated server files or licenses for vetted community operators. Neither option has been announced as approved: Amazon’s published plan is to take New World: Aeternum offline on January 31, 2027.
What does the petition ask Amazon to do?
The “Save New World” petition, created October 28, 2025, proposes two ways to preserve the game: Amazon could release dedicated server files, or license vetted community operators to host servers. The organizer says the aim is for the game to live on after its official sunset. Those are requests, not arrangements Amazon has announced. Read the petition on Change.org.

Release dedicated server files
If Amazon released the files needed to run dedicated servers, community members could potentially host them. The petition asks for this route, but the cited sources do not establish that the files have been released or that players can currently run independent servers.
License community-hosted servers
Alternatively, Amazon could authorize selected community operators to host servers. This would require Amazon’s explicit approval; the petition does not itself grant a license, and no authorized community service is established by the sources cited here.

What has Amazon announced?
In its January 15, 2026 announcement, Amazon Games said New World: Aeternum would be delisted that day and taken offline from all platforms on January 31, 2027. Delisting ended new purchases; people who had already purchased the game could continue playing on their purchased platform until the servers close. Amazon also said the Nighthaven season would continue until shutdown. That extension is not a promise of new content updates. Read Amazon Games’ announcement.

Can players preserve New World after the official servers close?
Not on the evidence currently cited. Community preservation would depend on Amazon releasing the necessary server files or authorizing operators. The petition asks Amazon to take one of those steps, but the cited sources do not show that either has happened or that a community-run service is operating. Until Amazon announces a change or an authorized alternative, its published shutdown date remains January 31, 2027.
